I had a massive headache over it cos I passed in 1998 and just missed the cut for being able to do whatever the fuck I like. But as long as the Gross weight of the trailer is less than 750kg you're fine, basically. When you get above 750 it's ok as long as the total weight of both car and trailer is less than 3500kg, and the car's still the heavy bit. BMotor vehicles with a MAM of up to 3,500 kg, no more than eight passenger seats, with or without a trailer - weighing no more than 750 kg BAs category B but with a trailer weighing more than 750 kg. The total weight of the vehicle and the trailer together can’t weigh more than 3,500 kg. The weight of the trailer, when fully loaded, can’t weigh more than the unladen weight of the vehicle Luckily for all of us, Swansea have gone out of their way to make it sound way more complicated than it is, and hide the actually useful information well away from the "What can I tow then FFS?" pages.
