The Reverend Bluejeans
I must admit asking for a grand to take on his fucked Insignia on the basis that he'll keep up the payments was a bit cheeky. You'd buy it to break. There's a nice £1000 earner in that. Insignia? Dunno m8.
sierraman
What with a fucked gearbox? Like hell id be giving him a grand for something he doesn't own though. Chances are slim to none that he'd keep repayments up. oldcars
oldcars
The guy doesn't sound like a swindler to me, just a friggin TWAT to whom I would defo be giving a wide berth so as to not get further embroiled in his pennilessness. This, he does not seem the type to rob you, just another Gumtree type person. You have enough troubles of your own, his are no concern to you. sierraman

Chances are slim to none that he'd keep repayments up. You seen how much good* CDTi engines are making? Insignias are epic breakers. They aren't old enough to be in regular yards and there are millions on the road. Panels, doors, rad pack, bumpers, wheels, struts, lights, trim, RCU look set. It's all £££££. The shell would be cut for anyone repairing one and the car would vanish. Gypos take what's left. No V5 req'd for a chopped up shell. 'What Insignia?" 'He said what? Tamworthbay
Been busy for a few days so just had to chance to catch up with this, BI-you deserve a fucking medal for this one, you have done everything and more that you could and if one thread shows the spirit of this place then this one does. It’s really sad it’s turned to shit but for not want of effort on your part, sometimes it just doesn’t work. Captain Furious
The guy who 'won' my Granada Cosworth on eBay gave me a similar sob story except he was the buyer...I can’t collect right now, I have no money, I’m struggling to pay rent etc. I said it sounds like you have more important things to worry about right now, I’ll give it until the end of the month and let me know if you still want to proceed, if not I’ll just relist it He never got back in touch, if he had, even just to say sorry I can’t complete I’d have given him his deposit back, since he didn’t even have the courtesy I kept it. So it was a £100 lesson in not bidding on shit you can’t afford. I was kind of with this guy up until he was trying to flog you the insignia, then I just thought either he’s really stupid, or he thinks you are, either way give it a wide berth. richardthestag, The Reverend Bluejeans and JohnK

Didn't they do an utterly poverty 1.4 version?Yes, there was a 1.4 Base on eBay a few months ago. I think they even came with a Mk2 Astra steering wheel instead of a standard Mk 3 Cavalier one, just to further remind the poor soul owning it that they were the lowest of the low. I would still have one though. warren t claim
Pillock
I thought we got the BX11 in the UK but Parkers reckons not. Europe only. Here's a weird one for you. In 1985, the Sierra "Saloon" was the base model, below L. See here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/61090099@N04/sets/72157632863434119/with/8532583598/ However, in the Escort range it went Popular - Saloon - L - GL - Ghia - XR3i. The "saloon" was actually one model above the Popular, swapping the Popular's 1100cc engine for the 1300cc and adding wider tyres. egg and warren t claim
Burnside
Didn't Peugeot do a 1.4 405? I know you could buy a 1.4 BX RE. With the 405 according to my 2001 Parkers Plus guide the lowest spec 405 was the 1.6 Carb GE from launch till the Style replaced it in 1991. The Cavalier MK3 is sort of referenced as a 'base' in the same Guide when mentioning the 1991 Concept Limited edition. It says values similar to 1.4 and 1.6 base. Which are listed as just Cavalier 1.4 and Cavalier 1.6 in hatch or saloon. That Cavalier 1.4 hatch is still stuck at the garage in Church Gresley as mentioned elsewhere on AS if someone was after one.

Bren
BI I am full of admiration for you.Sadly the seller is punished enough but having an insignia on finance - I would rather have Lord Olivier fucking about with my teeth like in the film Marathon man than have a modern vauxhall on tick. Please dont go down the road of telling this guy to get in touch again when he is a position to sell - he reeks of disaster - and to be honest, does'nt deserve a buyer like yourself. BorniteIdentity
As you probably guessed, this really got me down. Not just the farce of the transaction, but the criticism leveled at me from within AS. It wasn't what I expected, and certainly wasn't what I thought I deserved. But, I'm a sensitive old soul and take any criticism very hard - so it's my problem more than anyone else's. This is the first time I've been able to bring myself to look at the bloody thread for a few weeks now! Red5 has all of his money back, and the owner has been in contact promising that I'll get the deposit at the end of the month. The insignia is still broken and the Mondeo still providing the owner reliable transport from Cambridge to Milton Keynes each day. I've told him to let me know when he's ready to sell the Mondeo, but forgive me if I decline the offer of helping a second time. I'll certainly post the details when the time comes. mrbenn, cobblers, trigger and 9 others

Andyrew
You did what you could and it was definitely more than the average person would do for "an old Mondeo" and I respect that. I'd like to think the seller was being genuine, But it's hard to prove, Another issue is email/text/forum posts can be easily miscommunicated as there's no body language to go with the words. Well done bell end : as a text could be read as an insult or offensive. "Well done bell end" said by a mate as he hands you a cup of tea , whilst you stare cluelessly at something you've just broken and don't have a spare. Is something that lightens the mood. spartacus and BeEP

Datsuncog
Your intentions were honourable; your conduct impeccable. You did all you could, and then rather a bit more, in the gallant service of this community. You certainly can't be blamed for how the sale turned out, but given some of the comments I can fully understand any reluctance to take up the reins again should blokey recommence the sale. As others have said, try not to let the naysayers piss on your campfire - it's been a long and crummy winter and there seems to be a kind of cabin-fever developing across some threads in the last few weeks. It's a weird one. Here's hoping we can all turn a corner soon, and fresh challenges will arrive to focus our attention on shite, rather than each other. I'm still hopeful this one may yet wind up within the fold... RobT, cobblers and egg
