Oooh I could use some of that RantWare - could come in handy around the place.
Just pop a Dilligaf™️branded jacket on top, slip a FuckYou hat on the head and *tada* suited and booted for a wet Welsh day....

Post Brenhinol just delivered me and the missus a personalised letter from my old chum Nige.

Good to see he understands the bilingual nature of Wales - "Plaid Cymru" seems to be limit of their Welsh vocabulary.

Old Nigel Farage sat alone in his garage

Cold on a winter's day

He'd worked how to tax 'em

So by his old maxim

Knew by the new year they'd pay

Well on Halloween we had a great upset in our little fleet when C280 matey had a prang

IMG-20251101-WA0011.jpg.e8726ddf40e4320437bbf7225f9aaaea.jpg

Thankfully he was alright, slightly shaken but what can you do. Car was slightly worse for wear...

Incident wise it was a rainy day, bloke braked hard, etc etc. The other person involved was happy to deal with it privately so that was done. In the meantime the C280 sat parked up, with a car cover on as its future was debated.

Option 1) Scrap it and get another car

Option 2) Save the old girl and rebuild

Option 2 was selected.

So using the Astra Elite as a van, parts were ferried about (with the 1 Series being dragged into the mix to ferry about a crash bar, headlights and a wheel arch)

The car was recovered (couldn't steer it as the slam panel thing was catching on the tyre, plus its not very road legal I guess) to the garage, for the work to commence.

Here it was parked outside the lovely establishment (famed for struggling to fit my window regulator at the start of the year), ready for the work to begin the next day.

Here was the conclusion of day 1's work, new slam panel, headlights, wing and bonnet fitted.IMG-20251126-WA0005.jpg.866ff47131da6bd984116af7602ad7cc.jpg

Here's day 2's progress, with the new (to it) bumper and wheel arch lining fitted

and that's where progress temp stopped, as they discovered it needed the new dashpot. So the 1 series went off to collect said dashpot.

Here it was yesterday. New dashpot fitted and mechanically sound. Bumper and bonnet painted and polished.

Here is C280 matey pointing out the new headlight (he got two new ones, pass one was smashed and drivers side was rather tired)

Then we come to this morning, when the call came to collect the car.

And looking far better if I say so myself!

But it's fixed, and in fairness in a lot better nick than it was before the prang where the clearcoat had faded on the bumper. Overall c280 matey is very happy!

And we end at the car wash, where it looks rather stunning now!

So a sad opening with a triumphant comeback, and one very happy friend and one less Mercedes reduced to a cube!

Hope you all enjoyed, thank you for reading!

Winchester park and ride is brilliant! Youngest son had his interview this morning for a college he wants to go to after his GCSEs, in Winchester. We parked outside the college for his interview this morning, not wanting to risk missing his allotted time, we were there 45 minutes early and then headed for the park and ride, as he wanted to look around the Christmas market.
£3 to park all day, including return bus travel to the centre every few minutes, for every person in your car. Absolutely brilliant, so will probably be curtailed soon as unaffordable. The bus was packed, to be fair.

Good track, Winchester Cathedral. Hope he gets in

I was impressed the piped music was carols and hymns relating to Christmas. The actual point  for celebrating Christmas seems to be largely forgotten these days.

Its a great service. I use it in preference to going to Southampton which is where I live (more or less). Lots of boutique shops as opposed to the usual high st chains, although some of them are there too.

Sounds like it's better than the Cambridge ones!

MK2 son and I attend gigs occasionally in Cambridge, which is renowned for being anti car, and difficult to park anywhere.

We usually get the train ( yeah there is one in Norfolk!🙄) and the usual one is right near Cambridge south station.

(As an aside, why does Cambridge need three stations, and are getting a fourth apparently, when they can't even get a train running on the, still existing, march to Wisbech line?)

We thought we might use the park n ride, bearing in mind Cambridge is supposed to be a thriving city, students, nightlife etc etc.

No, the park n ride closes at 7pm! Yeah that's really good when the gigs don't usually finish until at least 10.30....

Sorry, should probably have stuck this on the grumpy thread.

TL:Dr public transport is shit.

Hope your offspring does well there @Wibble🙏

Found a lump of metal by the road,it was a small box made of alloy , a steel side , 4 screws  .

So being nosey I wondered what was inside it , nothing , a transponder , drugs , spare key ..

Out with the screws , and off with the plate to expose a rubber covered something ...

Which when removed was a rubber covered block of metal !
