nacho man
I was coming back from visiting family, and it's a lovely quiet back road so I had a good blast and the engine management light turned its self off. Verdict = stop driving like a fanny. chaseracer, HillmanImp, Asimo and 2 others

fordperv
Saw a small boy getting out of his mum's car holding onto the door with all his strength to stop it hitting the car next to him, bless the little fella he's obviously been taught correctly. Tayne
I've been asked on here on the odd occasion what Pripyat was like and if you want more than my standard "have you ever been to Dundee?" response I found this today. http://www.cr3ative.co.uk/chernoybl/ Both the power plant and the steelyard are visible on the horizon and it does look lovely and green. Shame its not that habitable... jakebullet, Sigmund Fraud, Jim Bergerac and 2 others

Mr Lobster
^ This. Looks fascinating. Its also interesting that despite all the nuclear accidents and what have you that nature has sort of triumphed and rather than being some baron wasteland, its pretty green again. I mean - free housing, no neighbours to complain about your 60 cars in the back garden, food's cheap in Ukraine (best not to live off the land near Chernob) and so on. Stress levels low compared with sitting on the M25 and waiting for a 42 tonner to see you too late. Are there any people living in the nuked zone? HillmanImp
Just seen this on Facebook: Apparently its dumped at Florence airport. Someone has checked online and it looks like its been there for a while: I would LOVE to go and get this. Imagine the confusion when the person who left it there gets a letter from the DVLA when you apply for the logbook back in Blighty. Conrad D. Tayne
Its also interesting that despite all the nuclear accidents and what have you that nature has sort of triumphed and rather than being some baron wasteland, its pretty green again. There's famous footage of people being evacuated, bused away from everything they possessed, down a wide open avenue.I've stood at the end of that avenue and I didn't recognise it. is it so much more lethal than living within the pollution zone of London? Background radiation on the edge of the exclusion zone is about double that of Kiev (about 100miles south of Pripyat). Background standing looking up at reactor 4 is about 20 times as much again. Chernobyl by Tayne, on Flickr Are there any people living in the nuked zone? Yes, about 600 or so went back (out of 60,000), mostly older people who lived the village of Chernobyl rather than the city of Pripyat (established 1970, imagine nuking Milton Keynes, Cumbernauld or 'Arlo) and a few hundred workers who live part time on the edge of the exclusion zone keeping people out and mopping up the odd few outbreaks. no neighbours to complain about your 60 cars in the back garden, This was taken at the big garage in Pripyat. Lada by Tayne, on Flickr They won't let tourist go up to the vehicle graveyard as it's one of the most radioactive places in the exclusion zone. If you won't to consider the really dodgy thing...Pripyat probably wouldn't have existed were it not for the cold war and the soviet union needing enough power to run Duga 3 (over the horizon radar). One of the reactors was there purely to power one massive radar station! Pillock
A lot of airports will let you drop hire cars in the carparks. Hire a car here, drive there, obtain parking ticket, jump start Proton, pay 30 minutes parking, leave, tell hire car company where their car is. Luckythirteen
Tis Midwinter, and I should really be round a bonfire, but I can't be arsed. So I'll stay in, warm and dry and wish you all a felicitous Yule anyhow. May your wheels point in the right direction, and your spirits lift.Took me most of the day to come up with that... Bobthebeard
The Tesco opticians in Blackpool. My specs fell apart on Thursday whilst I was in Cornwall. Being Mr Mole and almost blind without 'em I stuck them back together with plasters. Rang Tesco and asked if they could repair them when I got home today. No problem, new frames waiting and lenses fitted at 3.45 today. No charge. Sweet.
