What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I mentioned recently in the GOM thread I've been having chest pains for the past year or so and with the family history of heart disease and failure I got told by people here and in the real world I should go to see my GP.  Happily, my heart is fine, which is good.

I've been told to eat better and take some time out from the stress which is slightly easier said than done but not impossible.  I'm going to deliberately do only the things I enjoy and taking a week out from work and other things that are winding me up pretty badly and see how I fare.

Stress. Very personal but can be extremely harmful! Been there and got the medal etc. Both me and Mrs Beard have suffered from stress and panic attacks in the past..

Zen tactics and mindfulness does work. Live in the moment. Live for now etc.

Meant to post this yesterday, but the A77 - what a fab grin-inducing road in the early evening sunshine. I really must explore the West Coast of Scotland some more.

There's far better than the A77 down there, I grew up beside it. A713 from Ayr to Dumfries, A719 coast road from Maybole up to Ayr to name but two. A77 is a pain these days cos of all the cameras.

Parking Wars on BBC1 now.

Driving instructor gets pulled by bailiffs because of hundreds of pounds worth of unpaid parking tickets.

Driving instructor has a lass driving, on her way to her test.

He has car seized, she goes mental at him. He then pulls two screwdrivers and a kitchen knife out of the car, she goes even more mental at him, he waves the knife at the bailiff explaining "it's a tool of his trade" and gets arrested. What a numpty!

The Cortina sailed* through it's MOT today, AND I had the moggy running for the first time since I bought it last August. True, it ran out of petrol after about 30 seconds and then wouldn't start again as the fuel pump had died (again), but it did run...

*Had advisories on low parking brake one side, front No. plate and lack of rear bumper end caps.

Well I've just got home from our car meet, excellent turn out considering the poor weather, I was too busy chatting shit to take many photos.

That Sapporo seems pretty reasonable. For some reason Mitsubishi always seem to be cheaper than their contemporary Japanese rivals. If that was a Violet or  Bluebird coupe or a Celica it'd be worth more than double. Odd. It seems the only old Mits that make any money are Lancer turbos.

A bit in our local rag yesterday.

Man is fitting his Hillman Imp with  Subaru 2500cc engine.

WHY ?

Because everyone said it could not be done.

I noticed in the pic of the elderly looking fellow that there was a Rover P6 behind him.

Apparently he has the skills to do it and has done several restorations prior to this.

No pics from me as something in my system is stopping all links :-(

Here you go STUNO, I've fixed that for you. Link below:

http://fairfaxmedia.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx

I copied and pasted to see if it takes you to the right page but if not, it's page 24. I'm sure that orange P6 in the background has wide arches and actually quite nice looking minilite type wheels - a sensible size and nice and wide, unlike many modern imitations.

Much nice tin parked up in the layby off the A55 past Holyhead this morning (presumably just off the Dublin ferry & en route to some flat-cappery event) - I spotted a Humber getting medical attention, an utterly sexual W111 saloon in burgundy, at least 3 70s Beetles with period mods, couple of Farinas, early Austins A90 and A110(?), and several others that I failed to identify (disappoint). I would actually have pulled in myself for a gander and some pics, but the layby entrance was blocked for no discernable reason by a buffoon in a Rootes Arrow saloon.

That'll be the Oirish boys coming over for the Llandudno Transport Festival I reckon. There was some quality tin there last year. Sadly, I'm feeling all 'can't be arsed' about going this year.

Google have added a time travelling function to Streetview so you can view the old images, which is really excellent. The oldest stretch back to about 2008.

That is good and is something that will get more useful as time passes - I reckon I'll enjoy having a wander around 2008 in about 2030 or something.

Also, I spotted a Google car out an about on Wednesday so it looks like the images from around here which date from about 2008 will be updated soon.

So in about six months hopefully I'll be able to spot myself.

I spent a very nice hour or so last night with an NSU 80. I want on. , Seriously what an amazing car I just spend loads of time going "oooh", "wow" and "that's amazing."

I didn't realise they were so mind bogglingly expensive when new but then again they're way ahead of their time. It felt more like a product of the 80's than the 60's.

They've now shot right to the top of my want list.

I did this on Thursday. Serious grin.

Heritage Motor Centre actually had some cars available for members of the press to drive, including the first Landy and Minor. Utterly amazeballs. Though sadly, the pictured Rover P6BS was nowhere near firing on all cylinders, and was withdrawn shortly after my drive as fuel was pouring out of the carbs! Thankfully it didn't catch fire. Was great to chat to some of the management too, one of whom was on the engine development team for the K-Series. You can imagine what he had to say about cost-cutting...

That NSU's on Ebay just now, I was drooling over it the other day.
They're spectacular cars, the most modern thing produced since the DS.
I remember CAR magazine doing a comparison test between a RO80 and a new V6 Audi A6 back in the early 90s, the NSU came out of it rather well.

I'm slightly surprised that they didn't just let it burn to the ground, considering how they treat other Rover prototypes at Gaydon.

Someone just pointed Owen Paterson (MP) out to me so I did my best northern Danny Dyer impression and told him to jog on. Small things, small minds and all that, but it made me feel a little happier inside.

Because everyone said it could not be done.

Viewing this on my phone, I read that as "Sidevalve 2500cc" and immediately pictured a large old cast iron hunk of metal from the forties in the back of an Imp. I was highly amused, then horribly disappointed as I re-read the sentence.

I wish our local paper had such interesting news articles!

A mate of mine runs a workshop down Portsmouth way and is fitting a Saxo engine to an Imp:
