Yeah, you either get it or you don't

Bit counterintuitive putting power on to turn harder, but it comes easily enough.

Fuck knows how i will cope with 70mph on the motorway on the way back

For context, the turn onto the Staffs is under this bridge, with a whole hire fleet sitting right after the bridge, so only 1 boat width to get past..

Nice boat mister. For tight turns, tiller hard over and as you said, a burst of (forward) power to "kick" the back end round. If you keep the tiller where it is and then give a burst of reverse the boat will spin on the spot*, rotating around it's middle - handy when you've not got much space to manoeuvre.

*might not work if it's very windy - one to practise when you got some space!

@PhilA can you hit me with a 13 star flag please :D

Just hire rent a car and hammer up the 101.  I did LA to SF in 5 1/4 hours and that's almost exactly the same distance.

No. Because if it wasn't a barrier it could have been a child.

This.  I've been to a job where a hooded e-scooter wanker clipped an old boy who then fell and broke his hip.  e-scooter wanker disappeared into the ether never to be seen again, police on scene gave the shrug of shoulders and said they won't be able to find him.

Hip fractures present massive problems to older folk.

Quote

Mortality is high – about 10% of people with a hip fracture die within
1 month, and about one third within 12 months. However, fewer
than half of deaths are attributable to the fracture. This reflects the
high prevalence of co-morbidity in people with hip fractures; often
the combination of fall and fracture brings to light underlying ill
health. This presents major challenges for anaesthetic, surgical,
postoperative and rehabilitative care.

I drove from LA to Vegas in the 80s at 55mph, it took forever

I got the Greyhound from LA to Vegas last time I was there - that was doing a bit more than 55 but still a bloody long haul.  The desert is interesting for a short while (novelty value, never seen cacti outside of botanical gardens / student digs before) but soon becomes dull.  Fortunately the bus had wi-fi.

I'd do that before driving it again

If you were driving from LA to Oakland you could go most of the way on the Pacific Coast Highway, which is stunning.  Even the 101 is scenic enough to keep one interested most of the way.  The I5 is dull AF though.
