What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Watched blue thunder live. As publicity stunts go, not bad, but no Tesla to the stars! Beats Beardie Branson for class though - taking up the ex mercury 13 astronaut. I don’t think there’s ever been a bigger signifier of a mid-life crisis though, getting divorced and flying to space in a giant dildo.

Some may have noticed it's gone a bit scorchio so having extolled the benefits of an air to air heat pump heating system in the heating thread in the Open Forum I thought I had better check the reverse - the cooling.  IT WORKS.  Previously it has only been on cooling at installation and at servicing for short periods, and it's back off.

I don't do hashtags but #smugoldgit possibly hits the spot.  Unless of couse running in reverse so to speak means 4kw of electricity in for 1kw of cooling, never checked that end of the equation.

Nope, it's 1kW in, 4kW out. They're incredibly efficient things. If the figure was the reverse, air conditioners wouldn't nearly be as popular!

I'd love to be at work this week in my air conditioned site office, but no. I have to sweat my bollocks off in the study doing online learning 😕

I've been in the office for the last 2 days. Air conditioning was broken. It was a sweat box.

Home is OK. The afternoon's get hot when the sun comes round though.

As a day job i go around the southern counties testing and repairing garage equipment.

The other day at a fast fit with a lot of blue and yellow in their branding a young spotty youth asked if i could check his torque wrenches.

I was expecting a couple of cheap Sealey or Teng ones but these beauties appeared.

It was a shame he couldn't afford the AA batteries to go inside them...

1991 Buick, brought along by our old friend Junkman.  He had got wind of my plastic kit sale, and ordered some; today he collected, and took away some diecasts too.  It was great to see him again!  (And his Buick is gorgeous!)

i wonder how much oil it takes🤣

Every time I visit Halfords in Cumbernauld I always have a truly bizarre conversation with their staff and not in a good way.

Last night was the latest when I went in to buy some sticky pads to attach Mrs_Pin's plate to the Civic.

I went to the counter to pay.

Agent "Attaching some number plates?"

Me "Yes that's right"

Agent "Would you like an email receipt?"

Me "Yes please"

Agent "What's your email address?"

Me (provides email address which has my first name in it)

Agent "I've never understood why people spell Iain with two 'I's?

Me (Thinking he's being a bit of a wido here) "It's because it's Gaelic for 'John'".

Agent "Oh right. It's a weird language isn't it?"

Me (Humouring him a bit) "Yes some of the words look downright bizarre don't they?"

Agent "Can you speak Gaelic?"

Me "Yes, I can".

Agent "What can you say?"

Me "Iain".

Me "Byeeee looolll!"

missed opportunity for a "pogue mahone" methinks🤣

Some of this should be a grump, as tracing an ABS fault on my Camry is proving to be something of a challenge and at present I'm contemplating just flogging it and the spares car off for scrap/export. Anyway, looking on the bright side.....

Whilst at the local electrical specialist who were unable to help find the fault on the Camry, someone stopped to talk about the Laurel which I'd driven there. Turns out he owns a pair of later C32 models, one of which was something of a local landmark when it was owned by a stock car racing family for years and years:

1986 Nissan Laurel C32 + Bedford CF

This was back in 2006. It sat off the road for some time until the chap I met eventually bought it and a spares car they also had. He paid a remarkably modest amount as the guy was keen for it go back on the road rather than get banger raced!

I still have the engine and 'box from the similar Laurel I owned and then scrapped some years ago, so he can have that off me - very good timing with the house move coming up.

P.S. The CF was a 6-wheel LWB conversion. They also had a SWB CF van fitted with a twin rear wheel axle.

They do take that very seriously, no sense of humour about it at all.

I understand the question is there so that you have committed an offence if they decide you actually have been a terrorist at some point.

Sorry, boring response.  That is a cracking compo face though.

I haven't seen Angry People in Local Newspapers quote it yet, but give it time 🤣

took Delivery of this big ass 1500W Halogen floodlight today, a nice NOS high quality Fitzgerald made unit  (which I bought for testing some specialised high intensity  discharge lamps I have which are the same form factor as a 1500W halogen lamp)
