strangeangel
I'm not laughing. but my inexcusable, if perhaps explainable, inattention and my dear old car's unfailing ability to fuck up might give you a giggle. The BX went to the garage this morning because it had been making a hideous rumbling noise (from the front, or so I thought) which sounded like the mother of all wheel bearings about to explode. I got a phone call early this afternoon: "There's nothing wrong with the wheel bearings, the noise was one of the rear wheels that had worked loose. We sorted that, but then we had to push it off the ramp because it wouldn't start. The battery's obviously new, so we cleaned all the earths and checked all the connections, but nothing." "Ah, sorry 'bout that... it does that occasionally. If you waggle the key a bit then it starts fine" "Riiiiiight, sounds like the brushes are going. Seeing as it's here, and there's nothing wrong with it, d'you want me to put a new starter on it?" "Er, yes please" I'd had my first flu jab this afternoon and, feeling like shit, retired to the sofa for a nap. An hour later, and refreshed, I went to put the bin out and discovered my BX, back in its usual space as if it had never been away. Keys pushed through the letterbox. They are good, bless them. myglaren, S2000, Three Speed and 10 others 12

w00dy
The Sat Nav in the 530 wasn't working and just kept spitting the disc out (which looked like it had been run over) so I bought a new one from ebay with the latest 2014/15 maps so I now instead of no navigation, I now have a working but utterly useless Sat Nav. Totally worth it. In less exciting news the fancy new Bosch S5 battery is doing what the old S$ didn't much like doing buy just working as it should. barmatt
I recently acquired a new project. It's a 1998 Toyota Hiace / Regius 8 seater, with the 2.7 petrol on lpg. It was imported 4 years ago and the p/o just left it full on JDM including the massively overcomplicated stereo, satnav and reversing camera system, none of which worked properly or at all seeing as we're on the other side of the world and the Japanese radio network goes from about 88-90 on the FM scale meaning you could only get radio 2 sometimes and that was it. Well I decided to overcome my hatred of electrics, ordered the cheapest Chinesium double din touch screen and just went for it. wcpgw? Erm... WTF! I spent a fair amount of time tracing wires and working out wtf was what, reducing it to what was actually needed for my new setup and ended up with this.. And after a fair amount of fiddling, resoldering and swearing I ended up getting it installed... and ten I realised that reverse cameras are only about 12 quid and I have a newly found confidence in my electrical skills, so I did this today... WhatsApp Video 2020-11-18 at 15.14.30.mp4 Still need to position the camera properly and tuck away the wiring but it made me grin. rainagain, mitsisigma01, wuvvum and 15 others

The key has no shape on it, looks like a miniature dagger, falls out of the ignition lock at any time and takes a wiggle or five before creating a contact... 🤔 Previous owner had about half a kilo of crap on his keyring so I'm assuming the key and lock are fooked. Possibly not a coded key. Its an old shape 52 reg mazda b2500, key and lock cheaper and easier to change than starter motor 🤞🏽
MikeR
managed to fix the screen brightness on my Linux mint powered laptop . it involved google , chmod, su, gedit , ll , and some cut and paste , a lot of swearing , poking of time ravaged Unix memory brain cells .... and it worked ... myglaren
Does it not have keys for that? Both my Mint laptops have Fn+☼↑ buttons. Not snazzy new laptops either and they just work with Mint, no configurization needed. I should sort the webcams out though. Never enabled but recently wanted to use them to magnify text on some titchy component, failed miserably and used magnificating specs.
