Lord Sterling
I've been watching some old Crimewatch robberies and raids from around 1986 on tele via Youtube. There is some proper old rammle on there. Lots of Fords though, plenty of Escorts and later Sierras as stolen/getaway cars. One reconstruction was about a lone robber who held up cash vans in Middlesbrough/Teesside areas. What made me kind of grin was, he'd steal older vehicles like old Escorts or Minis etc... he'd tune the engines so they were better condition than before. What thief does that these days? The cars were never crashed, just dumped, but presumably eventually returned to the owner with a better condition engine than before.

spike60
I chased two banks about PPI 3 years ago, one fucked me off and other said they didn't owe me anything but would give me about £1450 because they were nice guys. Right. About a year ago I set the wolves on them as time was running out, the bank that fucked me off did it again to PPI company and it all went quiet on the other bank . On Friday with no warning just over £9500 arrived in my current account with no reference details except PPI. On Saturday I got a letter from the bank dated June 1 giving payment details saying I had 28 days to appeal the decision or the case was closed . I reckon the PPI company will be in touch real soon! ? I'm off all week and there's a classic car auction near me on Saturday, on line only mind. spike60
And another lesser grin, my 2000 Z3 passed its test on Saturday. Preparation was checking the lights and adjusting the handbrake cables inside the car. May be for sale soon.

Thick handyman Benny had a vehicle that a mechanic in a garage was going to use as a getaway vehicle for a post office robbery. He had spent a long time tuning it up. The vehicle in question was a Morris Minor van.

It was used as a getaway car in a supermarket robbery. This would have been about 1996 ish. I had sold it a year or so earlier. It was found and used in the reconstruction on Crimewatch. Definitely the same car as the badges on the tailgate were swapped over. Beige - of course- with brown vinyl top. HLT200V. Had a nasty habit of flooding (TADTS). Would not inspire confidence for use as a getaway car. mitsisigma01 and Lord Sterling

Shite Ron
This is the first weekend we are allowed out since lockdown so I took the Cortina estate out on Saturday but it started losing power when warm so only did 25 miles in it. I decided to go for a proper run today in the Granada and went over the Bwlch and Rhigos mountains to Brecon and back.A very scenic route and we were lucky enough to see several interesting cars. Not long after leaving home a Sunbeam Alpine and Gilbern convertible followed us for several miles, they then stopped at the top of the Bwlch then at the bottom of the Rhigos a very nice Anglia Super joined the road behind us and followed us for several miles. On the way back from Brecon we saw a Consul convertible,a few MGB’s a very nice Mercedes plus the hundreds of motorbikes that were out. One of the best grins though was the gleaming Austin Healey driven by a jolly man who waved at us as he passed in the opposite direction. A really nice day out which showed how important old cars are for making everything feel right in the world. Spottedlaurel
I used both of these today: Compare and Contrast by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Compare and Contrast by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Both very pleasurable, but in completely different ways. Lexus is all about the magical way it wafts around with no immediately apparent form of propulsion, with the little 1200 it is the joy of nipping around in an incredibly basic way. Ultimately both did exactly the same job, starting, going and stopping to take Miss SL to her Sunday job.
