greengartside
I used to work for my next door neighbour’s Ford dealership when I was younger, valeting and prepping cars for sale as a way to earn some pocket money. back in 2004, a Focus ST170 appeared for sale at said dealership where I worked and I instantly fell in love with it. The colour and the seats along with the bloody quick powerhouse all made me wish I could sell a kidney to fund the purchase of it. I drove past it most days and dreamed to own it. Then as always it was sold, never to be seen again.... ....until just now, a chance scan of eBay revealed the very car I had lusted after all those years ago. Sadly in a far far worse condition than I remember. I have asked the seller for a couple of parts off it, I would like the front plate for my shed but I can’t see them agreeing to that, they must already think I’m mental by telling them that I once cleaned it. Anyway it made me grin for finally finding it after 15 years! wuvvum, face, LightBulbFun and 11 others
Skut
The self healing car. The ZR lost all gears in Dundee traffic forcing me to ditch the girl friend much further from work than she'd like and limp it home by starting it in second gear. Re-entering our car park all the gears came back without warning and it's been fine since. myglaren, Garythesnail and BL Bloke

Cavcraft
Had a stupid bet with one of those on-line gambling sites. Checked about 15 minutes before the end, and they'd 'suspended' one of the game of the four I'd had in an accumulator. Anyhow, rang them up and went off my tits a bit saying it was a fix that this one game had been suspended and basically just said they're were having me and everyone else off, blah blah blah. I was on for £2,200 (from £1.94 stake) so a bit uptight. Anyhow, cashed out at £247 and was really happy as the bet would have crashed 5 minutes later. Then it turned out the game I was moaning about to them was suspended due to a problem with the lights at the ground, so rang the betting place back to apologise. TL:DR. Bring on the lager and vodka. Tamworthbay
Feedback for an app for a game, someone finds it surprising that when their phone is on silent they can’t hear anything. The name of the game? Sherlock Holmes Consulting detective. No sound on silent? No shit Sherlock. Don’t rate their chances with the game much. stonedagain, puddlethumper and myglaren 2

Lord Sterling
Today I popped into Ryde to ride the train. Nothing exciting about that? Well, the train is an 81 year old former London Underground train (Northern line): Absolutley brilliant, as transport shite as you can get. Sadly it's due to be replaced in the next 18 months so if you want to experience this, get down here as soon as. This was at the station too! Then there was the Bus Museum which I sadly missed as it was closed: Then, on the way back to Mum's I spotted a steam railway! I live next to the Severn Valley steam railway so it was great to see this! Great day! Probably their newest rolling stock though, so one train running is a good sign.... The 1938 Stock has been very long-lived, serving both Bakerloo and Northern Lines and working alongside the very similar 1959/62 Stock until retirement. Island Line is the rump of a once extensive steam-hauled network which mostly shut down in 1966, including the main hub at Newport, in favour of expanding the roads. There has been talk of restoring the line back to Ventnor, but that's never going to happen - no money, no political will, and a substantial industrial estate on the site of Ventnor. The IoW Steam Railway operates on part of the old route towards Newport, but they are pretty much unable to extend west beyond their terminus at Wootton. If there ever is an extension, it will likely be back towards Ryde, running parallel to Island Line. 3VOM
The story with the IOW ex underground trains is that they were the only thing available that fitted under some existing bridges. How much of that is true or legend I don't know. LightBulbFun and clayts450
catsinthewelder
The current 38 stock is the 2nd generation of ex LT stock on the island. Steam was replaced in the 60s by older standard stock which lasted 25 years before the sea air gave them a touch of the Lancia Beta. greengartside
I’ve been thinking long and hard about the ST170 I posted earlier, and I may have just emailed the guy asking if he’d consider selling the whole car to me. I can’t really let it go after wanting it for so long. If he won’t sell then at least I’ve tried and it wasn’t meant to be. If he will sell then I’ll have to find some way of sweetening up SWMBO. I’ll have to concoct some amazing story of sorts. privatewire, dome, LightBulbFun and 4 others

clayts450
On my very subtle career-changing journey, I just made my first Beelivery delivery this evening. As my first effort, I didn't* do too bad. Forgot my reading glasses, so couldn't read the app or see the photos of the items, the stuff on the app didn't match the stuff in Tesco, I forgot my satnav/phone holder magnet of sturdiness which clips onto the airvent, so had to navigate with subtle sideways glances to the passenger seat, nearly crashing several times, and I felt so sorry for the person making the purchase I gave her a quid towards the substitution I did, after she showed me just how much she'd spent (25 quid for 10 quid's worth of stuff...). Half an hour later and I'm quids* in.......I got a quid bonus for delivering so quickly, too. Handy living five minutes away from a Tesco Extra. Oh well, onwards and upwards....at least I got to use my official clipboard. myglaren

Lord Sterling
Another thing about the IoW is the bus stops. There many of them including loads out in the sticks. Some of the ones out in the sticks have such steep verges where you couldn't stand for any amount of time. Pictures below only illustrate the ones I was able to get which aren't steep: Another thing. Being a small island, no matter what time of the day you drive, there will almost always be someone following you. Not in a Detective/suspicous bullshit, just that 99% of the time someone always wants to go almost exactly the same way as you which can be annoying when you want to sightsee or potter about. Another thing, there seems to be a large concentration of Zafira As: Never seen so many in one place. Mind you, go to Telford and every second car is a Vectra C so I suppose various areas have thier favourites. I also spotted this: A book about the registration letters on various vehicles through the years 'DL' . Which is why even private regs have 'DL' in them for proud island dwellers. Wantes to buy the book but £20 for it seemed a little pricey to me. BL Bloke

Joey spud
Decided to do a quick oil and filter swap on my old Avensis yesterday evening but i couldn't undo the shit bustin' tight filter housing. So a rumage around the shed resulted in me finding a length of rusty 6mm plate and a Subaru hub nut which was roughly fashioned into a redneck style removal tool. It still needed a long breaker bar on the end of it to shift the bugger. myglaren, Heidel_Kakao, strangeangel and 4 others
