Chicken for tea yesterday, I didn't know whether to eat it or buy it a drinkattachicon.gif20190311_190654.jpg

One of my goals is to learn to cook a roast. I can't be any worse than what my first attempt will turn out like. :)

Re: insurance. The renewal for my Nissan Almera 2.2 dCi came in at £167.something, which is the cheapest my insurance has ever been. B) For the first time in 24 years the VED is now my largest standard car expense (ie: non maintenance or repair).

That's my neck of the woods and that road surface is bloody terrible and has been for years.

It is the road that 'should' tempt visitors from the Audley End estate to pop into Saffron Walden but it resembles the aftermath of the 'Highway of Death' from the 91 Gulf War FFS.

Have had a pretty hectic workload lately, but finished off the latest issue of Retro Japanese today. Now for some much-needed relaxation time! Once I've done a post run. In the Invacar...

Has been a lovely morning. Got my head down, got some music on, it's actually stopped raining. Marvellous!

Called into Lidl today for some minor bits for Mrs BMH.

Had a rummage through their cheap bits box.

Yorkshire war cry 'ow much.

Oh yes.

I totally missed the ratchet crimpers in Lidl, I probably would have bought them at full price.

Do you think they’d been there a long time?

Got a letter from my insurance company today:

I think we can do better than that.

Let's see what that meerkat bastard has to say:

A definite improvement.

Now for that site everyone seems puzzled by:

Oh yes, that's more like it!

Now, just for fun, lets tell them it has a non-standard engine, uprated brakes and nonstandard suspension....

Well. It'd be rude not to, eh...?

I'll be phoning a couple of specialist insurers in the morning as there may be some plans afoot, but I need to make sure they're viable...

Assuming it isn’t currently modified, be VERY CAREFUL submitting speculative quotes. It’s all being recorded and assuming you’re using your real name and address, used in the underwriting process when you do finally take out a policy.

I have spoken to Adrian Flux today, been upfront about the current state of the car and plans for it, they have been incredibly helpful and got me an affordable policy that meets my needs perfectly! Slightly on the pricy side while it's standard, but includes driving other people's cars which is a literal impossibility to find at 23, and there will be no increase once modifications are carried out, just the admin fee to amend the policy.

It likely helps I was able to reasonably thoroughly and enthusiastically run through all planned mods in all aspects but timeframe, and also used my work phone voice/attitude. Call centre workers love me!

That’s fair enough I meant more submitting comparison site quotes, you’re blasting false data across many many insurers in a blink of an eye, sometimes multiple times.

Definitely, the only quote I did with any mods on it was that (clearly bogus) £505 one, I know a friend of mine got caught out with that when he was deciding which out of several cars he wanted to buy and if he could leave existing mods in place.

I finally collected the parcel I had a grump about back on Friday.

It was £35 worth of stuff from ebuyer, but it also included a £60 voucher for Naked Wines. How does that work?!

I hardly drink wine, but I might just take advantage of that anyway!

Some excellent footage here from 1986 which has been posted on my town's news site. Plenty to spot

ETA: His channel has got plenty of similar footage and footage of classic car shows from the mid 80's - well worth digging through if you have some time to kill.

I really enjoyed that. Interesting to see that the retail park came quite a bit later. I'd have said that the jehovah witness church was a lot newer.

I'm writing a public consultation document at work. The spoilsports have vetoed the picture of a Mk1 Astra I was using to illustrate one of the sections, but I think I've managed to sneak a Fiat Fiorino in there undetected.

My local Sainsbury's has a period picture of a store with a MK2 Astra estate! Quite prominent, too.

Blimey, I’d forgotten how dicey it felt to enter the Robin Hood roundabout from the Thatcham

end of the A4 before they put traffic lights onto it.

Also, as SiC says, the rurality of Pinchington Lane before the retail park, Tesco and migration of the town’s car dealerships is quite something.

Watched a few old Top Gears earlier on. Just at the stage when Clarkson was starting to upstage Count Quentin.

We had the music of Phil Collins & Simply Red amongst others, Clarkson dressed as a punk (more Russ Abbott than Johnny Rotten), going from one scene to the next with quality* nineties graphics (Clarkson holding out hands, magical glitter appears), it was awful.

It was before he'd turned into a complete knobber though, the reviews weren't bad.

Booked the Micra in for a new stereo on Monday, given up on Fm Transmitter which are as reliable and long-lasting as a pensioners erection.

Came in very reasonable and the chap installing them has a Micra too, be nice to have FLAC USB tunes when driving.

Did you try sprinkling Viagra on the old radio?

I watched his test of the Mini Cooper vs Fiat Cinquecento Sporting the other day. Amusing stuff. There's no denying he brought something different to an otherwise fairly stuffy show.

This car. No issues whatsoever. A world apart from the usual stuff I have. It starts runs and drives as it should,no untoward noises or anything like that. My last picasso had over 180k on clock as this also does but yet this feels better than cars I've had with 100k less on the clock.
