pompei
The infant and I (almost) share our birthdays, and Mrs P organised a party at the weekend. She got someone to make a cake with two marzipan Fiat 500s on it - I'll post pics when I find my camera Anyway, I know this is a strange request, but does anyone know whether I can spray them with clear varnish or something to preserve them?Delia
bigstraight6
Thats the most unusual request I've seen on here! Unfortunately my confectionary product preservation knowledge is rather lacking
pogweasel
Photograph them for posterity, then scoff them. (Getting OTHER people to make the cakes is a very canny move. DIY cakeage should be avoided, as demonstrated by my attempts to make poglet maximus a 'dalek' cake....)
pandamonium
<< Ex-baker I'm sure there is a glazing process, for preserving icing, etc indefinately but the memory eludes me. I'll have a search, see wot I can find.
r.welfare
Try hairspray. T'wife got a cake made for a friend's birthday with a scale model of her (oo-err!) done in icing - she sprayed it to set it and it still looks OK. Haven't tried eating any though so dunno what it would do to the taste.
