nick
On a new golf hire car I had, it would hold the brake on at the lights even if you released the brake off. Because it held the brakes on, it would keep the brake lights on too. Auto brake hold or summit. So basically the driver may actually have his foot off the brake, but the car is holding it on for him. The problem is much bigger than I thought! Oh well, I will just use my sun visor. Eddie Honda
Regards clutch packs on Volvo varios,I've read somewhere that same thing applies to any autos. Not sure how true it is so just don't rev it in neutral or park On Variomatics, and by that I mean rubber belted things, there is no clutch pack, it's a single dry plate clutch like a manual, but with an automatic engaging cover. Transmatics on the other hand are steel belted things, such as Mk2 Ford Fiascos and Fiat Uno & Panda Bo-Selectas.
barefoot
Nipped into local friendly garage this morning.Curiously there was a 60 plate Ferrari parked up there.Owner apparently not very keen on it, 'it's too jittery' No shit it's on 35 profile 20 inch tyres and wider than a big van. To the point of this post, chap had had the vehicle vinyl wrapped from new.No scuffs, dings or stone chips in the paint - ever. When he comes to move it on, car will be unwrapped and sold with original unmarked, as new paint. Not scene* that before - have you?
MarvinsMom
I have, with some bmw thing on lease hire contract bollocks. some fella has done that with the second one of these that he had on lease having had his bum raped by BMW when the first one went back. a scratch on the bumper, that will be £150 please, a chip on the bonnet, that's another £250 please, and so on he ended up giving them £4000 or something equally as stupid for a piece of shit car he had borrowed to get given back and cos of all the little chips and marks that a car will collect in 3 years. one of the guys in the office has done the same, but this one has "cosmetic insurance" which I guess is just another way for them to empty your wallet each month.... barefoot

oldcars
In other news, BECAUSE CITROENS. While the XM is much better today, the clutch will still slip at maximum torque uphill, so it got another dose of Jizer and rinse. I'm trying to improve the cold starting of the Dyane, so had a muck about with the idle mixture and speed. Of course, you have to wait a bloody long time to try another cold start, but here's hoping! Had someone contact me about buying it today, so thought I'd better try and sort it. It's absolutely fine once warm, but struggles to idle when cold. Not sure the choke is opening as much as it should either, so there may be cable manipulation to try next. Not that the 2CV ever liked full choke. Even when it was really cold. Can you set the choke gap on the carb on it? Mine needs set at 40 thou on the Rialto and if its not bang on its a nightmare to start from cold and idle's really badly. xtriple
I used the Mazda today. Not been touched for two or three weeks (no idea - senile!) and it started first time and ran perfectly. I am impressed. I had to get it going as the dollop goes to the bodyshop tomorrow (yes, I am fucking nervous!) so I was expecting to need jump leads and so on. It is good fun... I am going to go and wash it as a 'thank you'

xtriple
Washed the Mazda, leathered it off (how very anal!) and then polished the bonnet. I hurt.... I sprayed the gap between roof and windscreen wiv water to see if it would leak and it didn't... it looks like it should as there is a good sized gap. Not complaining.... Got told I'll rub all the paint off the car as I wash it to often!
gm
There is some adjustment in the front hood clasps, when they are open, fold back the flimsy plastic cover and tighten / loosen the barrel nut. A little bit of extra tension will close that gap for you. xtriple

trigger
I nearly just bid £800 on this D Turbo but hesitated at the last second and now I'm kicking myself, I really wanted one the same as this and in this colour when I was 18/19 but only ever had a N/A diesel one instead. Skoze
My train was delayed this morning 'cos the driver parked it in the wrong place and totally bolloxed the whole of Stratford station, so I took the time to phone my insurers for a chat. Turns out they think i'm only £54 more dangerous if I put a 3.9 V8 in my 1952 Landy. It's been really nice knowing you all. The change probably just sits in the 'other modification' category yet they'd probably charge you £100 more to park it 100 yards round the corner anonymous user

xtriple
I ran into the lad that sprayed the car this morning (typical on the day it's going to a different body shop!) and he actually apologised for the way he worked on my car! Now split up with the girlfriend who was giving him grief, stopped smoking so much weed and back at home with his parents. Offered to do some work for me foc to make up for being a prat, but not sure I trust him, even at 'free'. Would you?
