I have a kit sitting on the passenger seat as I type..... Got it for the screw I noticed in the centre of the BMW front tyre Wednesday 😡

Bit of reaming out and plugging tomorrow morning  then..... and not the fun kind

My local eastern european tyre place fixed a puncture on my tt without taking the wheel off. In fact he didn't even let the air out.

Only a tenner too.

except rear seatbelts became compulsory equipment by 1987....

so how does that work then?

Right.  I was only summarising what I remember of the conversation.  I may have misunderstood.. At the time (2010) I was looking to buy a mini, and had seen a nice clubman estate, so got into conversation about rear seat belts, and then about the safety Improvements that he was involved with, in a previous job.

The mini we eventually bought was an 1988 Mayfair and had only lap belts in the rear.

What changes in regulations in the mid 90s would have required a project team at Longbridge, to work on seat belts and side impact??

There are NO rear seat belt mounting points on any mini built before about 1995.

And definately not on any clubman or estate.

A bloke I worked with in 2010 was on the small project team at Longbridge that did the design, testing and introduction of various safety upgrades, including rear seat belts, and side impact bars inside the doors.

That's not to say they can't be fitted. But for them to work in a crash, the clubman estate probably needs a rolls cage for them to be attached to. (probably)

Weren’t rear seat belts mandatory from about 1985?

My grandad welded a bar across the boot of granny's (d reg) nova to fit seat belts in the rear when my cousins were born before me. Got told this tale many years ago when they found the 1980s Halfords retrofit seat belt set still in the garage. Their probably still there...

Have you tried one of those Chinese needle and rubber string jobs? I've fixed a few with mine, they've been alright.

Someone will be along soon to tell me I'm incredibly reckless and only a brand new Michelin CrossClimate will suffice.

Here I am.

This is very unlike me, but it's a bit* close to the edge.

Is it an amazing, factory finish job? Far from it, but I’m glad that there is actual metal under the windscreen now and I hope it has given the old girl a few more years yet.

Have you tried the heater since it was done?  Be interesting to see how the loss of the scuttle vents affects the airflow.

just sitting there!

Reg check reveals it's auto, on about 84k, hasn't been MOTd for four years and hasn't been V5d since 2005. The for sale sign has nothing but a mobile number on it.

Sent a text, natch. Wondering what the deal is as the trade plate is curious. If it's cheap I'll have it, it's only in Stockport.

Probably someone in the trade has bought and flipping it.

Honestly, I didn’t realise there were no vents on the new scuttle until it was too late. In any case, the budget definitely didn’t allow for the effort required to put them in. Will have to see how it affects things

Took the Daihatsu out for a run in the downs today, lots of people out and about in the sunshine but no major dawdlers. I saw a TR6, a Bristol 411 (I think?) and a Volvo Amazon in convoy, lots of motorbikes and a morris minor convertible on my route. I ended up driving one of my favourite routes but backwards, a motorhome a couple of cars in front of me turned off where I usually would, so I decided to go the other way around. I even stopped and got a couple of scenic photoa near-ish to Winchester

Well that's the 6 Series  gone to it's new home, an Oxford going back to Oxford.

I've had it for 14 years I got it when I was 18 and I've had some good times with the old Farina but it's time for it to move on. My Dad and I have too many old cars (well too many cars in general).

It's going to a good home a nice chap on the Farina Forum bought it straight away, a queue was forming to buy it amazingly! Even a very friendly chap from Miami was after it.

It didn't want to leave as the wipers packed in just before the trailer (bloody lovely trailer) showed up, it was sulking I'm sure of it. It's strange it has had more attention and tinkering with in the few days that it was for sale than in years. You know the little things a screw missing here a broken clip there etc. I wonder what it would be like to have a car with no niggles and missing screws etc?

Today I will mostly be riding this on the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in aid of Prostate cancer and men's mental health. Both things close and personal to me. There should be about 200 other classic and unusual bikes on the Bristol run, should be a good ride. The weather couldn't be better.

Shameless plug for my page below
