It's fine, I'll probably have a go at fixing it myself. Probably just some duff solder joints on most of it. Displays aren't expensive but they're a minor fault. Steppers should be easy to do. I reckon probably just solder joints or broken wires too.

I don't think it over reads as just put 20litres in and it's still under half way. This time I put super in to see if it makes any difference. Longer term it'll only be getting 95 though.

if the gauge is twitching (and it's a stepper) it won't be the stepper motor, it will just be the solder joints from the PCB to the loom connector, it usually is - putting a tiny pin through a cheap PCB with lead free solder and a load of wires hanging off it to wobble it about is an absolute recipe for cracked joints.

I've not done that particular cluster but I've had some similar era TT ones in and they had  moving coil motors for the fuel and temp (from memory) so it could be baggy joints to the motors, but if it is one of those, it's a right pain to get the needles back on in the correct place.

Steppers are easy.

The LCDs are £8 from china and absolutely "OK". Not bad to solder on but make sure you have leaded solder, flux and some solder wick.

Doh 🤦 yeah - solder joints on the main loom connector!

Yeah that's exactly the bits I'll need if I tear into the dash. Thanks 👍

Probably can be got cheaper elsewhere but sometimes easier to pick everything from one place.

There's not much point spending hours trawling the internet trying to save a tenner. I bought a stepper motor from him for a C5 that worked perfectly. Plus his ( downloaded) instructions were good.

Lots of flood damaged cars came in today, mostly undertrays and heatshields torn off, but one hydrolock victim. When will people learn!

Long may the flooding continue so that I get to keep Friston Forest to myself 😅 most recently the locals have started trying to shoo you away if you dare to drive your 4x4 through the floods, it’s like a submerged Royston Vasey. Only locals allowed on these roads…

Do you get to see/speak to the customers and find out what they were thinking?

Not car related, but did a web presentation this afternoon ( at which I was awful), but mein host is a Raman ms specialist at Bradford university who is on ‘“fake or fortune” next Series. He asked about the x1/9 as he saw it as my desktop when I was sharing the screen.

Have a look at "feather-throttle-not-hair"'s comment on this article: https://jalopnik.com/how-jeremy-clarkson-pissed-off-both-the-chinese-and-the-747841114

"I lived in Beijing in '05-'06 and i'll never forget coming across an overpass in the middle of the city beneath which were a couple of small parking lots worth of brand new MGs just sitting there, rotting away under a cover of dust. It was pretty surreal. Sad to see the company is still being poorly run."

They were on my radar as they seem to have avoided the used car price madness and would make decent family/dog transport if I needed something cheap but that's actually fucking ridiculous 😂

It gets bigger when you remove the wiper tray area. Basically have to do that anytime you're doing stuff on or around the back of the engine. Not hard to do but does add 15mins or so to a job.

Even though it's a shit thing to do, other manufacturers have done similar - just look at the crap needed to be removed on many BMWs too.

Tbh I actually really liked the ex @SiC1.6 pez auto one I had.

I had a Scenic on Motability, it was very good until the auto box failed.

Mind you I was towing a large trailer much of the time and Motability sorted it.

I was also overweight, because the salesman/brochure/Renault,  told lies.

Tow weight 1300kg  , ........(subject to driver only and no luggage whatsoever).

I had an electric wheelchair,  ramps, tools, sledge hammer....... in the back.  Wife wasn't too nimble either.

Like in the handbook for my 2002 Caddy where it tells you to contact your dealer if you need to change a headlight bulb.

That was a good "You have to be f***ing kidding..." moment.

Apparently H4 headlight bulbs are too dangerous for normal humans to handle.

If you come across this in the handbook for a 2006 Audi A8, TAKE THE ADVICE 😂 still got scars on my hands.

Given the average demographic owner of them new, it's probably the best advice. VW know their market!

Fair enough - recommend it.  The least they could do is actually tell us what lamps are used though.  Literally all it says on the subject is that they might explode if handled incorrectly and to contact your dealer.

Failed the Mod 1 section of my motorbike test this morning.

The bits I was most concerned about (U-turn and slalom/figure-of-8) couldn't have gone better.

I let myself down on the emergency stop exercise which requires you to accelerate to 50kph in a fairly short distance before carrying out the emergency stop. No issues with the emergency stop itself, but I was only going 44kph through the speed trap. You get another go if you don't reach 50kph on the first try.

Nerves took over and I made a right mess of the second attempt. I accelerated as normal but closed the throttle too early again. I then panicked I wasn't going quick enough and re-opened the throttle very late. Whilst I did manage to reach the target speed, I also managed to clip one of the cones by the speed trap.

Really pissed off with myself, especially considering how well I felt things were going up until that point.

FFS!!! Failed my Mod 1 again this morning. It was going great right up until the very final section (hazard avoidance). This is where you have to accelerate to 50kph through a speed trap then swerve between two cones immediately afterwards.

Got up to the target speed no problem this time on both the emergency stop and hazard avoidance, but on the latter I managed to clip the inside cone with the outside of my left foot. Feeling so pissed off with myself, not least for wasting another day's holiday. I wasn't even feeling particularly nervous this time round, and the weather/conditions couldn't have been better.

Afterwards, I found out up until that point I had one minor for doing one of my figure-of-8s a bit wide.

Third time lucky as the saying goes. At this point perhaps I should change my username to Maureen...

Chin up. Will be even sweeter when you do nail it next time though.

I work for an organisation that trains the Emergency Services - we'll put manikins in there for people to practise rescue drills.

@wuvvumengine and gearbox were removed by a local scrappies because we had to decontaminate it prior to putting it in position but let me know if you want anything else off it.
