It's for my Daihatsu Sirion bought off here in Sept 20 and through its 3rd MoT. I spent a fair few quid on it to get it to a good mechanical standard 2 years ago but so far it's been v reliable. Mind I'm only doing 4k a year in it.

Excellent news (and spots) . I've really got to like the Sirion after seeing dollywobbler's example on his channel.

I flashed my lights at someone, and the stalk snapped. Everything still worked, but it was floppy enough that the main beams were flashing like a strobe light at a high school disco. I rigged up a very carefully tensioned piece of duct tape, and it actually worked quite well.

marina-stalk.thumb.jpg.2345098c29bf428d599b850ba2ebf2c0.jpg

I also wasn't worried, since I'd bought a set of Marina stalks a few months ago to borrow the horn button. I'll stick them on, ten minute job.

marina-switches.thumb.jpg.c25b0abfe97f03aed992760c394ce6e9.jpg

This is where we run into problem one. The "new" Marina stalks are, I suspect, not actually from a Marina as the indicator stalk is longer. Also the multiplug has been cut off. And the other stalk, which controls the wipers, is broken. Ah. Still, no problem, as I can make one good set from the two.

Which I do. And after re-installation everything works perfectly - except the right hand indicator. Nothing. Now begins one of the most frustrating faults I have ever encountered on a car. The indicators work completely fine if I bridge the multiplug. They also worked fine before, so I'm quite sure the new stalks are at fault. However, the switch seems to work - a multimeter shows I have continuity on the right hand indicator circuit. I spent two days on and off dismantling and re-mantling this switch, swapping every single component of it with the broken one, one piece at a time.

It works on a multimeter. It does not work in the car. There is NO REASON for this switch to not work. Yet it does not work. I pulled the stalks off my Mini and tried those. They work. So I need new stalks, so what? Stop complaining and buy some. Yah, sure, I will. But two things about this are infuriating me - first, this was not the fault I was fixing! The indicators worked fine with the broken stalk! Secondly, I wouldn't mind if the switch was just flat out broken, but not being able to find the fault is driving me crazy. There is no reason for this to not work!

Whatever, for now I have my right hand indicator.

marina-dials.thumb.jpg.3e36fa9d690867e3f3a34899a98b587d.jpg

The left is controlled from the stalk. The right is controlled from this discreet under dash switch for now.

marina-switch.thumb.jpg.5faa706a53fbc416fd3d20bebe2e3e60.jpg

...and if you think "that looks like bodged up shit, you should be ashamed" I fully agree.

Mother JJ’s Corsa C is playing up

3 times in the last 2 weeks it’s not started, I’ve gone out to it and it’s had a flat battery, she’s convinced it’s trying to start but not catching - i haven’t been able to see it first hand but she always mentions clicking.. Whether it’s turning over so much she’s flattening the battery or what I don’t know.

Shes asked me to get a battery for it and I’m wondering whether to get a bigger one. She only does the school run 3 days a week for the grand kids other than that it sits from Friday - Tuesday without being touched.

Standard 1.2 pez battery is this

653520AD-5BF8-452F-98BC-F4A54379A4B1.png

whereas the Corsa c 1.7 diesel uses this

Which would fit in the tray. Wonder whether it’s worth getting one of those for a bit more beef and see if it helps.

See what tayna.co.uk recommend, it'll be cheaper then Halfords and there is a big range of options & prices available. Delivery is quick and cheap too.

Need to go and grab it tonight unfortunately otherwise I would - I’m just going to get the bigger one for the sake of a tenner. Can’t do any harm!

Will bigger definitely fit in the tray? It's not a different size tray because it's a plastic part?  Just incase you buy then run into a problem.

I would go with the 063. 4 year warranty to me is fit and forget. 440CCA is plenty of oomph for that size of engine.

It's the same size as I use on my Mx-5s and they have no issue starting (I use a Yuasa  from Tanya with a lower CCA)

I googled it and according to the Corsa C forum it seems a popular upgrade to fit the diesel size battery to the 1.2’s so for the sake of an extra tenner I think it’s worth it if it holds a bit more juice. We’ll give it a try!

Well my body is doing great today.  After the visit to the doctor this afternoon, earlier this evening coming out of the bathroom I passed out and faceplanted down the stairs.  Fortunately no real damage done apart from bending my glasses (which have more or less straightened out) but a bit worrying.  I'm going for a blood test on Wednesday anyway so I'll mention it then.

It's odd, other than for my Covid jabs I haven't needed to see a doctor in over 10 years, but it seems now everything's going wrong at once...

Just been reading that fatigue and fainting are the newest covid symptoms now.. I was certainly weak but never actually flaked out. I suppose they ruled this out first?

Thing is, up to then I was feeling fine.  I wasn't tired this morning, it just came on all of a sudden and passed just as quickly.  I will ask the question though on Wednesday.

Had you been in the bath or a hot shower? That can aggravate things if you're already feeling light headed.

As BC says it could be the symptoms of a virus. I know there's a nasty lurgy going around at the moment.

No, I was just having a piss.  I'd been downstairs to close the curtains and back up again just a couple of minutes earlier and I was fine.  It's most odd.

You weren't reading the daily mail on the toilet were you?  This can raise your blood pressure to dangerous levels..

Get checked out ASAP mate, please. Appreciate what you mentioned earlier about the doc having not seen whatever you’d shown him before and although this may be unrelated, you don’t want to miss something urgent.

Do you live with someone? Not being nosey, genuinely concerned - if you live alone then make sure you post regularly on here, or message me your number/address or something. I’d sooner waste a tenner in diesel coming to check you’re alright if we don’t hear from you for a while than you be ill and alone.

Thanks JJ.  I'm going back to the doctor on Wednesday for a blood test so if there is something wrong then it should get picked up then - I will mention the "episode" to them though of course.  I do live alone, but I'm on here pretty much every day and also if I don't log in to my work laptop my colleagues would pick up on it pretty quickly so I'm not too worried about a serious mishap going undetected.

Update

Fitted the big boy battery and it starts like a beast now.

However, when I was making sure it starts I noticed the stereo was on.. when I took the key out… with the volume off..

Turns out the radio must be knackered (it’s the original stereo) so it doesn’t go off with the ignition anymore. Hence battery being flat when she doesn’t use it I guess!

Removed the fuse as she said she never uses the stereo hence volume being right down.

Probably didn’t even need a battery but now it’s got a decent new one along with the radio fuse removed so we can at least rule that out if it plays up again!

Good luck and fingers crossed, similar with me after so long of not going to a doctor I feel like I'm falling to bits. I know something isn't right with me, I just can't pinpoint what it is.

I think you press button 1 and 3, and you can have it off with ignition or not..? Now you've removed the fuse you'll need the code to put it on again?

Cheers. Will take a look next time I visit. She’s had the car since it was a year or so old and it’s on its last legs so just keeping it going is enough - she never listens to the radio anyway!
