I had considered using corrolan on my cars and after seeing how you've got on with it think I'll be getting some soon too. 

I take it you could. I did spill some and white spirit cleaned it up easily. 

I might try and clean some of the dried overspray off the exhaust, will let you know. 

The application would be very easy with better access. Just need to get the stuff good and hot first, it's like lard at room temperature and returns to that state quite quickly when it cools. Like I say though, seems to be acceptable to thin it a bit with some white spirit.

I was intending to take the Volvo for a birthday run to Tesco yesterday (I decided a couple of years back that I was determined to have it drivable by the time it turned 50 - I managed that with several months to spare but still wanted to take it for a drive on the actual day).  Unfortunately the headlights decided they weren't going to play ball - they would only work on main beam.  I took it for a quick spin round the block anyway, and managed to blind my neighbour who was reversing his Disco 3 into his drive.  The Tesco run was done in the Renault 6 instead - that turns / turned 50 this year as well, but I'm not sure exactly when as it wasn't registered here until 1980.

Once the new radiator cap arrives for the Volvo (had an email from Brookhouse a few days ago saying they're waiting on new stock) I will try taking it for a bit of a longer run (in daylight obvs) to make sure it's behaving itself properly.  Even with the blower fan out of service the heater is surprisingly effective, but demisting becomes more of an issue so I'm hoping I can sort it before the weather gets too cold and damp.

Not amusing when they are supposed to be recovering  you. I called out Green flag once or National Breakdown as it was then , and quite quickly a van arrived from a local garage. (At work, about 6pm). Couldn’t fix it , so called for recovery. Hour later, the lorry turned up, loaded my car and we set off towards my home and a garage there ( 40 miles away.) About halfway there, the recovery truck has a blow out, driver controls it well but we come to a stop wedged against the curb and  he can’t get the wheel off. Recovery lorry needs to call a tyre specialist. Many hours later , I eventually get home at 11pm.  Car quickly fixed next day, new distributer cap .(car only 13 months old).

Done a few jobs on my latest purchase this morning. A Series III was my first car so it's great to have one again. Even smells the same (good and bad). Just off to the post office in a min to sort the change in tax status out and should be able to run around in it soon.

I went in blind but didn’t do a collection/what will I find thread as I honestly didn’t think my mrs would agree to me buying it.

It’s a one owner from new BX 14E Leader. A couple of giffer scrapes but otherwise very tidy and original.

To keep the peace I’ve agreed to thin the fleet a bit over the next couple of months. Even I think owning 4 BX’s is excessive!

Is it really bad that my first reaction was "I had wondered if that one was still about..."

It's a small world with those cars.  It looked a really solid example last time I saw it for sale though so hopefully will be a good one.

Really wish my last one had been in as good shape as it had been advertised to be, as I really do like them.

Since I've had it the Laguna has felt a bit rough at idle with lots of vibration inside the cabin. I was told that it's almost certainly a failed top engine mount but it looked fairly new and the rubber was all in good shape. There's a large mount at the bottom of the engine, in the centre with looks like it's designed to absorb engine torque. It looks a bit degraded but still serviceable. Months went by and I put up with the vibration but decided to bite the bullet and replace it. I wasn't sure if it was the mount at fault and new branded ones are  ££££ so did the only sensible thing and bought a used one from eBay for £20.

With the 'goona up in the air I set about removing the bolts holding the mount in. There's two 14mm  bolts holding the main part of the mount and these have to be taken out from the top. After much knuckle scraping I had one out but the second was harder to get to. The 14mm socket on the end of my ratchet fell off and was last heard of pinging back over the subframe and under the steering rack somewhere. After spending an hour looking for it I gave up and tried to use a spanner but there wasn't any room. By this time the 30 minute job had taken nearly 2 hours, my piss was approaching 99 degrees and it had gone dark, I couldn't find my lead lamp so I worked by crappy torch light which was decidedly sub optimal. After much levering of spanners I finally got the last bolt out and had the new mount fitted. A test drive showed the vibration was greatly reduced, although I think much of the annoyance came from my house keys which when attached to the Laguna's key card hang down against the dash and jingle about- a bit of a design fault I think, who doesn't have their house keys on their car "key"?

One 14mm socket down but a quieter car. A fair trade, possibly. The 14mm might even show up eventually!
