trigger
The Volvo went tonight So last week I got it back from my welder and used my time of work striking wisely by priming the patches, seam sealing and undersealing them all (the inner sill had a small hole as did the spare wheel well) I then painted the sill Rover Hurricane Grey as that was a good match and waxoyled it all. I put the car on ebay Sunday evening and by Monday morning I had over a 1000 views and 105 watches! I ended up getting £3300 for it from a chap in Somerset on the promise I'd put a years mot on it today, which I did. Thankfully it was a clean pass so I spent a hour heading the 5 miles home in the grit locked traffic, I did see a 340 in the traffic mind This now leaves me a little more space and some spare cash to get the Capri finished off, hopefully that will be done soon too. gm, stuboy, brownnova and 23 others

gm
a panicked phone call from mother gm this evening "the car won't start, it stalled as I was parking and it's now stuck blocking someone else in" I grabbed some tools and jumped in the mazda on previous occasions, the problem has been that I had been driving the car and moved the seat back, she forgot to move it forward so wasn't pressing the clutch down far enough which is required for the engine to start (all vauxhalls are shite etc) however this time this was not the problem - a quick check showed a feeble 11.9v, lucky I brought the jump leads. reversing the mx5 into position (both cars have the battery in the boot, quite handy as her car was nose in) and a boost was applied - fired up first time so a suspect battery then. I followed her home and checked the voltage again, still only 12.0v the car is coming up for it's 6th birthday and is on the original battery so not unreasonable I take it this is a type 012 ? (sticking the reg into ecp gives 012, 063 or 096 as options) I see it is still showing a green indicator - are they to be trusted ? I'll get her a new one anyway, she is 76 so can do without the worry

Ghosty
Type R's getting a set of Pilot Sport 4S tomorrow after work. I've also ordered new front dampers, top mounts/bearings, spark plugs, and a washer pump for it, and popped out to Halfords for new Bosch AeroTwins (they were cheapest for them) which were fitted in pretty much seconds. That was the best part of £1000. w00dy and SiC

SiC
Another Ceri delivery! This one actually got the neighbours out for a look. But TL;DR it's a one owner local Bristol car that was his company car. Creme Cake (iirc) was in use until 2004 when it failed it's MOT and parked up for restoration. Left outside since then, it sadly slowly deteriorated. They had a number of lovely pre-war Austins in the garage which presumably was always the main interest and this just never got done. The chap passed away and the family decided that this had to be sold. When the cat came out from underneath and more rust fell out, they knew it was never going back on the road. I paid basically scrap price for it. I hate the idea of ever scrapping a car but this is by far past it. I'll primarily be using it for body cuts and the like. Maybe selling the odd part cheap if anyone is after anything. My purchase money went to a Parkinson charity, so will only be right if I donate a proportion of anything I sell there too.I'll do a video later of it after work. Apparently the engine runs really sweet. Ceri mentioned it even drove onto the trailer under its own power! trigger, Datsuncog, mercedade and 28 others

Rust Collector
I mentioned to my partner recently that I fancy a disposable winter car, in diesel estate guise, as it's getting a bit miserable outside for projects currently and the Shogun Sport kindly shat itself at the weekend. 2 large dogs and a baby will be a nuisance in a Clio and the Insight is no good for any family duties being a 2 seater. Unbelievably, she said she thinks it's a good idea as long as I look to dispose of something else. I've agreed a deal on something today that I had my eye on, so I should have some collection action to share in the next few days. I reckon it's just the right balance of sensible and stupid. I've also got a viewing on a Trabant Kombi at the weekend, which is absolutely not what I need but it's not that far away and it's stupidly cheap. To keep to my end of the bargain, I'm going to have to push on with replacing the rear beam on the ZX so that I can put it in for MOT, and I anticipate that I will roffle that on here at a later date as I'd rather drive it into the sea than deal with the general public on a low value car. chodweaver, Dyslexic Viking, Yoss and 1 other

Yoss
Just got back from westest Wales with green Favorit. 553 miles in four days, real mixture of roads from the M4 (which is much longer than most people realise) and fast A roads to single track coastal roads. It's the longest trip I've done with this car since I bought it in April. No problems as such but the offside rear tyre started rubbing on the arch very slightly. I recently swapped the Team Dynamics wheels for the Ronals that I took off the Felicia and they must be very slightly wider. It hadn't been an issue before but I guess as we were loaded up with all our stuff and the dog (and he's 42.5kg) it was just that bit lower. It's only the tiniest rub but somehow the acoustics amplify the noise. It's hard to get the potatocam to photograph it properly but you can just see the left hand side is a little darker where it's skimming. That's after 500 miles so there's no real damage and it's rarely that heavily loaded but we will need a longer term solution. One other slight problem. It took six hours (including breaks) to get home and it rained the whole way and times was torrential. But when I selected second speed wipers it set the washers off at the same time. It never used to do that but I haven't used fast speed for a while. It must be something simple, probably in the switch. These wheels were all shiny four days ago. That's 500 miles of brake dust and general road detritus. And this is the main reason I think the tyre was rubbing. He is a bit of a lump. It seems sad to scrap it considering it has such few owners, local car and late reg. However when it has fist sized rust holes all over it, it really will never go back on the road. This is how bad the roof is alone and a good indication of the rest of it. Runs and drives though. MOT and tax exempt motoring innit. I don't know if it helps, but I had an issue on my Favorit where the washer pump was permanently on when you clicked the stalk up to the first speed. Intermittent was fine, and full speed was fine, so I put up with it for a year or so and just used the timer function if I wanted the first constant speed. I finally pulled my finger out earlier this year and ordered a new stalk, and that's completely cured the problem. Wish I'd spent the £20 odd ages ago now! I wonder how quick you can make the intermittent go. As quickly as you can switch it off and on again I suppose. Although on second thoughts the sweep will still be the same speed so it might not make any difference. I have a spare stalk in the garage but it's a brown one from a mk1. I might chuck it on and if it does the trick invest in a black one.

I think the terminals are different on the mk1 stalks from memory. The fastest the intermittent can run is equivalent to the first continuous speed, so if it’s your high speed that’s not working then my method probably isn’t helpful. But for reference, click the stalk down once to start the sweep, and before it finishes click the stalk down a second time and leave it there and it’ll run at the first speed continuously. brownnova
How is it Wednesday already?! Weekend adventure was a 2CV run I was leading. But life kept getting in the way of my reccy run. So Saturday night I headed out. Weather was good, MG was selected and the roof was down! Love topless night drives! Castle achieved… Went to Rhyl on my way back… Then the Sunday was the actual run. Reality TV fans may recognise the location as Gwyrch Castle. Which is a fascinating place in its own right before Ant and Dec got their hands on it. Lovely run, all 2CVs ran faultlessly throughout! Ah, I'll check the HBOL later, that has wiring diagrams for both mk1 and 2. I find the infinitely adjustable intermittent too clever for its own good. If you have them on first speed and the rain dies off a bit you go straight from their to intermittent they just carry on at the same speed, then you have to reset it by switching them off, counting to four (or whatever gap you want) then switching them on again. The mk1 has only one intermittent speed, about 4 seconds, and I find that's perfect
