I looked into leasing a Transit Custom back in 2018, the lease company were actually offering pre registered Transit Custom Sports for the same price as a brand new base model, with the added bonus of immediate delivery. I seem to recall VW were offering something similar on pre registered Transporters. egg

wuvvum
Progress on the Mobylette. 20220923_155015.mp4 Nearside indicators not working yet but I think that's probably because the rear bulb has gone - unfortunately the screws holding the lens on are rusted to buggery so will need drilling out. The flasher unit is fine though which was a relief, and the cheapo Indian indicator switch I bought works as I'd hoped it would. Cavcraft
Soz, not soz. Have to say it wears its mileage (178k) exceptionally well, and the chain has been done recently. The lack of rear leg room is an issue though, to the point where it might have to go to be replaced with a 5 series or something. dome, brownnova, Split_Pin and 1 other

There could be something in that - I had a conversation with a fella years ago who ran a fleet of Transits as part of his commercial signage business. He always optioned alloys on his new vans, as he reckoned the lads treated them so much better than if they were running standard steels. He said the wheels paid for themselves almost immediately, by not having to deal with scuffs and minor prangs. Split_Pin

Whenever someone asks for a job to be done - total radio silence and they never hear back from them. Not a one off, heard it happen multiple times. Jazoli
Gave the old W211 a wash and wax today, it still looks good considering it's 19 years old this year. Also I recently brought it into the 21st century with a new stereo with wireless android auto and carplay, Finally got the reversing camera wired up, what a pain that was. It's proving quite reliable so far although I have got an SBC warning which means I'll have to send the pump off to be refurbished, my local specialist quoted me £1900! I can have it rebuilt for £450 so it's not the end of the world. Overall average is 40mpg and that's 90% town only, can't complain for a nigh on 2 ton big old bus. Although being a pre DPF diesel it stinks until its warm, which I'm not a fan of. MrGTI6, Popsicle, goosey and 11 others

dozeydustman
Stepdaughter and her (new) BF are coming round this afternoon for a bit of work on the Mini. Hopefully those replacement struts will just slot in nicely. Might be a little firmer as they’re off a Cooper D and not a One D. Gonna give it a general look over as well to see if anything else is needed for the MoT in November

reb
I had planned on fixing the Volvo's handbrake on Thursday or Friday after work and getting the retest done today, but it was torrential rain after work both days and I don't have enough space to work on it inside the unit at the moment. The weather seems ok today, so hopefully I can get it sorted before it changes its mind. According to an American on YouTube (not RobertDIY) the handbrake on an 850 should be fully engaged by 3 clicks. I refuse to believe that's true as all 3 I've owned have taken most of the travel to do anything at all. Low Horatio gearbox

I’m sorry but the handbrakes were mediocre when they were brand new! Get in a 3 or 4 year old and you’d be using the full length of the pedal (V70, S80, XC90) and leaving it in gear! dozeydustman
One side has had its spring and damper swapped. Went pretty well and it wasn’t too difficult to slot into the hub carrier once we had the top mount bolted up. A small amount of lube on the bottom of the damper and a jack under the bottom ball joint and everything slid together nicely. Even the droplinks came off with no hex heads turning into cheese. Other side was a different story. Penetrating fluid AND a dab of heat and the pinch bolt still sheared off. Myself and madam’s BF are heading to silverlake shortly to see if we can get a hub carrier from a scrap car, so as a preventative measure all bolts and nuts have had some plusgas dribbled on them, hopefully we’ll finish this by sunset. I think also as a preventative measure I’ll be getting brake flexies as well. They’re starting to look a little bit meh. Again the rubber to metal joins will get a good dose of plusgas. TL:DR - mini is half done. paulplom, Fumbler, outlaw118 and 4 others

louiepj
12 years and 80k miles on this cambelt. Renault Grand Scenic 1.5 dci. The fuel filter was dated 2016 and i changed the pollen filter as well and it could have been the original as the lower dash panels then the clutch pedal assembly have to be removed to get it out.
