I did consider going to that tonight but decided the Boxster was too urgently needing a clean! I think the other one is on Saturday though. Going to try going to that if I can.

Cool. I'm going to try and make it. @andyberg Will you be going? Blue Bowl meet in the valley at noon

Pulled the BGT out of storage tonight too. Booked in for its MOT tomorrow.

Only 100 miles to go!

Filled up. Fuel economy (UK MPG) isn't too bad on this fill up. Actually worked out 1MPG better than the Boxster.

Did a pre-MOT essential.

Not because it's needed for the MOT, but because at £2p/l and parking in Bristol, I'm not risking it!

First time I think I've ever managed to get all my cars (Civic is Mrs SiC so doesn't count...) in a photo for a very long time.

Which brings me onto my next thought. Next month will be 5 years since I bought this. This September I've got the MGB 60th anniversary I'm going to in Gaydon (providing it gets me there!).

After that, I never thought I'd say this, perhaps I may consider selling it. Not certain yet but a combination of factors makes me think it might go. No doubt it's read this and bloody let me down at the worst possible place in Bristol! 🤣

What would you replace it with?

So, I decided to unlock some stereos from the scrapyard (now that the Alana is up and running in my Aldi)

And it was all going well until i hooked up a Skoda MS402 tape deck from an early Fabia mk1 to my 12V source.

I don't know if I'm spending too much time on AS and inheriting @AnnoyingPentium's bad luck with Fabia MK1 related stuff as a direct result but the damn thing won't power on. It'll illuminate the buttons and draw 0,1A, but when i press the knob to turn the radio on, nothing happens.

(the two Symphonies i unlocked work fine though)

Finally got out in the Starlet for a proper blat. Public holiday here today - took it down my favourite local twisty and I'm amazed at how well it did. Plenty of poke and gets to 100kph/60mph in second which is a hoot. One of the nicer  Toyota engines I've come across, it doesn't sound like it wants to disintegrate as you approach the limiter - and it still manages to have low end grunt despite being twin cam injected blah blah.

The car seems to run the smallest bit smoother after a good thrashing too. Or maybe I'm just making excuses... who cares, I'm happy!

I'm off to show my face at the new, local car meet in the morning and shall be going in the 944S. To me, it is obvious that I should dress in a sharply pressed white shirt & red braces, but does everyone on here dress to suit the vehicles they drive? I always used to wear a Breton shirt & hang a string of onions around my neck when I went out in the Vel Satis. What a palaver, I was glad when that moved on & I finally stopped smelling like a greengrocer.

I did some rust prevention on the inner sills of the red 93 today.

This is the nearside,  offside was the same. Nothing crunchy, just slight surface rust. A good coat of Vactan and then stonechip once that had dried. For some reason the picture displays here upside down, even when I rotated the original.  You can see the Y -shaped brace on the inner sill, these are a perfect mud trap. It should have been closed off from the factory but as well as the middle, each of the ends of the Y shape are open, where it meets the inner sill. They all rot here eventually, stupid design.

The black Saab is a bit worse but nothing serious, it's getting a small amount of welding done later in the summer.

Cleans up very well this!

I was Entry Control Officer for a team entering the dam's hydroelectric plant to devise rescue plans for maintenance workers.

Slightly concerned to be stood in the middle of a dam next to a metal access davit with lightning forecast but fortunately it didn't materialise!

It's classified as a Confined Space so by law before maintenance teams can go in rescue plans have to be devised so that workers can be extracted in case of emergency.

Only once my colleagues and I had worked out how we would rescue them were the maintenance team allowed in.

Fortunately nobody required rescuing today which is how I like it. 🙂

had a great day yesterday reconnecting with my M3 .  Got a real downer on it over last few years since the arches started bubbling and found a few other issues, plus the roads around here are pretty miserable.   Couldn't bring myself to sell it so its sat there doing pretty much nothing. Took it to Goodwood yesterday and had a really enjoyable drive .  Might still sell it but nice to have some fun in it again

Passed first time. Only managed 623miles between MOTs. Must do better this/next year.

It's been watching on tonight, seeing it's potential garage buddy having its arse end fixed.

Oooh, is that within a reasonable distance of the Shitefest site? Looks worth a visit.

Friendy meet. Will make it a regular on my Calendar.

I must have just missed you. I got there at just before 1pm. Quieter than I expected. Suspect most avoided due to the forecast of rain + thunderstorms.

@Tickman 's update on the problem his daughter had with a wheel seized onto the hub reminded me of an issue I had myself that I meant to revisit. One of my dailys is a Dacia Logan which failed it’s MOT a few months ago on rusty discs. I changed them and the pads myself but the biggest problem I had was getting the wheels off. I had to resort to a combination of a sledgehammer plus driving it with loose wheel bolts on my driveway to get them to break free.

When putting the wheels back on after rebuilding the brakes, they were still ominously tight to go onto the hubs so I reckoned it’s the bit of the hub that pokes through the wheel centre that was sticking.  So today I took the wheels off again and sanded the rust off the hub centres before applying a small amount of grease to try to stop them from rusting to the wheels again. I used the grease sparingly as the last thing I want is excess grease finding its way to my shiny new discs. The wheels slipped back on easily this time so hopefully this will do the trick.

IMG_2679.thumb.JPG.1fda012623ea560dd3702ef6e8592f16.JPG

A quick job to do which I hope will save me hassle in the long term. I don’t usually carry a sledgehammer around with me in case of getting a puncture so goodness knows what I would have done if I had discovered this by the roadside.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how long was it since your wheels were last off? My front wheels had last been off 18 months before I found then stuck to the hubs but that 18 months included 2 winters which is probably when most of the corrosion occurs.

Probably not one of my wisest purchases! It was a bit rustier than I expected but to be fair to it the car starts and runs absolutely spot on and sounds great.

It seems that it was owned by the last owner from 2004 until last November when it was moted having been unused for a year and then promptly crash and ended up with banger racers who raffled it off and a chap I know won it and has had it in his garden since.

IMG_20220604_101626.thumb.jpg.bdd9de0813454a7d0802ca8832c8cf91.jpg

I gave it a pressure wash and a very quick mop and the paint came up so I got it in the garage and started stripping the damaged bits off

Which was pretty straightforwards, it's all mostly superficial but the hard part now will be finding the correct parts without spending too much

IMG_20220606_173241.thumb.jpg.e4220667cc92940da083f93c52dfdeb7.jpg

I did give the side a quick mop this afternoon to motivate me and it came up looking well so it's got potential, I'm not sure if the alleged 49000 miles is genuine or not but I wouldn't be surprised. As a bonus I also managed to get the radio code from the main dealer too! IMG_20220606_150658.thumb.jpg.c74ce35076f70351a43279a4a1d5a864.jpg

As usual I've hogged right into this old crate, ended up having the strip the front end off.

IMG_20220608_165334.thumb.jpg.4c161413f24de190f7c0dc1db576b724.jpg

Then i bought all the panels i needed from a banger racer up near Norwich and spent the last week prepping them all for paint and fitting them all back onto the car.

IMG_20220611_220517.thumb.jpg.7d1a468fd121a5c12faad3301da773b6.jpg

Sadly i didn't take many photos at the time but you get the idea, I'm really pleased with the paint match, the wing from the breakers at been repainted the wrong shade of red so i done it again with a aerosol can and it looks fantastic.

IMG_20220620_221819.thumb.jpg.967e6f7f29f9917763cafdc6e6e517ba.jpg

I still have a lot of little jobs to do, all the brakes have turned out to be shagged so I've spent a small fortune on three new calipers and new shoes and pads all round and i still need to find a alloy as the old one was too damaged to repair and it will need tyres too but hopefully you'll agree it's looking a bit better now.
