Collegue at work says can I look at his pug 307 as it's banging.. bear in mind this motor is unserviceable never washed or hoovered and on a budget of 50p for car care... so I took it for a drive... lots of noise from the engine bay and then a donk... get back open the bonnet noticed all plastics for airbox and pipes are all broken and loose... but not that though .. checked top mounts... hmm notchy but not ott, lent on the engine and felt it move a bit... so rock the engine and got a good inch back and forth...

For the 25th time I told him to scrap the heap of poop

Was in subway earlier, some bloke was going on about all sorts of random shite.

I decided he was a total nutcase when he came out with this bold statement "barbers and hairdressers are all money laundering organisations and nothing else"

Cue the next 10 minutes, various bits of "evidence" of why this is the case...

Not a soul in there had a clue who he was or what the fuck he was talking about. He was loud enough for everyone to hear, of course

Left me rather puzzled and made me question why I actually chose to go to subway...

TLDR; subway attracts very odd people, would not recommend.

Maybe this is what happens when the cretins from the 'must stupid message when flogging a shiter' are allowed outside!

He's not wrong.

Barbers, Nail bars, fake tanning establishments, launderettes.

Have you not watched Ozark ?

I had it in the back of my head when typing that - it would be you if anyone who'd agree with him 🙃

Why do think that Scouse women have a reputation for being orange.

Fake tans.  Why so many establishments?  One on every street corner.

Had to deal with a lacquer peeling Yaris bonnet for a friend.

Removed the bonnet and sanded all the loose lacquer down to the base coat,a pain in the hoop.

Dents and chips filled.

Rubbed down, and given a squirt of primer.

I couldn't be arsed painting it myself,so my nephew collected it and took it to his dad's paint booth that evening.

Got it back the next day and refitted it.

Result.

Picked this up after a fraught train journey involving 4 trains, a missed connection and a lot of stress today

The drive home was thankfully uneventful, its an economical beast, 53mpg over 156 miles of mainly motorway, a bit better than the 24 I got from my V70 usually.

Thanks to @sims00 for a easy pleasant deal as usual, my wife thinks we should just swap cars every 3 months. :D

We have had work done on ours but had a skilled man to help. He worked in our house garage.

Oi! Can you back that up?

No.  If I could so could the combined forces of the HMRC, CID, Ci5, and the institute of British Laundry Professionals.

I'm now 95% certain that the main shaft seal on my 75s high pressure fuel pump is leaking diesel into the engine via the timing case :(

The oil level is steadily rising by about 1/4 litre every 100 miles or so. Replacing the PCV filter made little difference.

Thankfully I have a spare pump in the garage together with a seal kit so I'm going to rebuild it and get the Rover guy in Whitburn to fit it.

Still something I could have done without but I did promise myself I'd keep this 75, so on with the repair.

Moved it across the drive, washed it, dipped the oil again and it's now at 3/4 🤷‍♂️

So the ex @Grumblespeed206 GTi had been making a hideous clonk (As advertised btw!).

Jacked it up and only play I could find was on the rearmost bush of the boomerang shaped suspension arm, not hideous but probably enough.

Febi arm acquired from eBay. Figured a decent one was worthwhile as it doesn't look like a job you'd want to do twice and it certainly panned out that way.

Razzed the old one out in jig time yesterday afternoon, "refitting is the reverse of removal".... My hole.

Got the arm in, but getting the ball joint lined up and in was a serious war. Jack's, ratchet straps, hammers and pry bars were to no avail and in the process I had inadvertently separated the inner CV joint.

Definite two man job, luckily @cort16offered help and arrived in the 7 series of assistance. Getting it lined up required force on three axis at the same time and a lot of trial and error, but we got there eventually.

I had disconnected the ARB and Track Rod End, so today's war was with a very awkwardly placed top nut for the drop link. Working with an inverted mini angle grinder I eventually managed to get it off. Replaced with a new drop link.

Everything else was easy enough buttoned back up. Took it for a spin and the moment of truth.... horrible cloning gone, success.

I actually recall doing one of these on a mates 206 maybe 10 years ago, but the ball joint was nothing like as difficult as that. Not sure if to do with sporty versions geometry or what, but it was a battle and a half.

Celebratory wrong French shot;

Now to worry about the knackered sill and the rear beam. Fortunately with 6 months test I can take time to feel the car out and see how much it's worth putting into it.

I bet you're glad the clonk was gone after that prolonged battle.

So the wife has been browsing Mini estates, this worrying behaviour has been happening for a while now.

I know we can't afford to buy a car now, (mostly because I have a bagpipe habit that might need looking at by a professional) so that's something.

She has a perfectly good, if a bit oil-leaky Peugeot 307 that she's prejudiced agsinst for an unknown vague reason that doesn't make actual sense.

How worried should I be?

Look what i've refound.

I had a skip dropped off at my abode today and needed to make a bit of space on the front which meant uncovering and rolling the Subaru back a couple of feet.

Considering the old girl has been under a cheap eBay cover for seven months the paint looks far better than I remember.

I really need to stop fannying about with a certain Morris Minor up the end of the garden and finish the welding on this,I reckon a couple of good weekends would see me about there.

BINI with a prince engine level of worried?  Once they've taken a dislike to the car, I think it's hard to go back and you need a new one or you won't hear the end of it.
