Had a letter this morning about an urgent recall on the wife’s car from Mercedes U.K, apparently there is a defect with the  Brake booster causing a loss of brakes. it’s being inspected this Sunday to determine what action Mercedes will take,  Leave as is if it’s ok or Replace Booster and Mastercylinder.

Collegue sent me these 2 videos of her 1.2 nissan  qashqai ... I've said it sounds like cam chain rattling it tits off.. only on 44k ...

Anyone else think the same?

Could be, although occasionally you may find that a component (e.g. a metal pipe or whatever) has popped out of or broken away from a clamp and is rattling against something on the engine,  something which can act as a sound box.  Has the Cash Cow got a reputation for developing a whacky chain?  If so, that would make it more likely.  Pour a can of STP in it and sell quickly - that was the common course of action in the 1970s.

Another visiting 75 to my driveway tonight. Same owner and indeed the same Firefrost metallic as the saloon he brought a month ago.

List of jobs was as follows:

New number plates including the correct smiley rear plate.

New wiper blades (binned the horrible aero items for traditional style ones). Rear wiper arm is fucked and loose though and isn't the original so the new blade wouldn't fit.

Rod the ECU plenum chamber drain hole (I had to lift the ECU to pull out a literal mouse nest)

Fix non working cigar lighter so he could charge his phone. Ended up removing the entire centre of the dash including the climate unit and replaced the whole cigar lighter, ash tray and cup holder assembly. The owner had a better spare unit with him.  Now works and all the wood effect panels are the same colour.

Fix loose interior light trim panel.

Fix sticking sun roof blind. Just used it in anger about 25 times and it's better now.

Fix non working electric mirrors. Removed the switch pack,  disassembled it completely, cleaned all contacts in circuit board and clean off all dust and crap. Both mirrors now adjust in all directions as they should.

Fit new bonnet badge. I forgot that the X part item was shite and needed filing down to fit properly as per my car 2 years ago. My grandpa's old files that I forgot I had until we had a clear out a few weeks ago came in handy tonight. I only had small warding files and a BFO one for heavy work so these medium fine ones were great.

Spent 3 hours on this one, thankfully my palm was crossed with a wee bit silver though 😀

Did the MG ZT-T come in a similar colour as well? I saw an 04 one in Ochiltree. :)

Definitely a timing chain, I advise her to not drive it and get it seen to as soon as possible. Also check the oil level as no oil can cause it. My brother used to have a 1.2 and it cost him £2500 for a new engine (independent garage), and a friend of his had the same engine in her Juke, and it went three times, nissan garage did that I believe and somehow put a hold piston back in.

Et voila, £3.20 eBay alloy wheels on. I think they look pretty smart. They're Style 306 wheels from a much later 3 series, think they were on the "efficient dynamics" model.

I had ordered four Bridgestone tyres from National. Took the wheels loose to get the tyres fitted. They wouldn't fit them without the wheels being on the car... I was stunned. I received a refund and bid them a warm* farewell.

Not wanting to waste a trip and being pretty busy til next week I went to the one man band round the corner. He sold me some premium* brand "Autogreen" tyres for a very reasonable sum, very much a cash only operation. Time will tell if they're any use.

That does look quite good, I think. I'll be looking out for a second hand set of wheels with usable tyres for my 3-Series soon, so I hope I can find a bargain like that!

I was surprised that they wouldn't fit wheels that aren't on the car. I can only guess that once there was an incident where someone incompetent had them do that, then fitted the wheels themselves and they fell off, so it became company policy to avoid arguments

Yet more Saaab weldage. Thought I'd be done today but there's a hole under the battery tray (removable - thank you Saab) that i couldn't see from underneath and is a bit of an arse to access.

Someone hit you - or reversed into a bollard/wall corner?

I take it everything opens and closes as it should still...... hope so!

Rear ended at a pedestrian crossing.

Boot took a bit of persuasion first time to open but seems fine now. Whether the boot floor is still in one, un-crumpled piece is another question!

Viewing arranged on Friday for a totally stupid, overly priced, (probably) unreliable, inappropriate, midlife crisis money pit which I have absolutely no room for.

It sold before I could look at it. :(

Should've gone earlier. Thats the 2nd one up for sale locally that I've missed out on in as many weeks.

Think someone somewhere is telling me to finish the one I already have.

As indicated in my for sale thread,  I have left a deposit on another car. I kept having dreams that I owned a Cavalier again, the most recent one was where my old schoolfriend Graham Cullen was aggressively wheelspinning away in L620GLS, a satin red hatch with a towbar (yes,  my brain literally made all of this up in my sleep).

This had been relisted a few times so a cheeky offer was made and accepted.

@worldofceri is collecting it on 2nd of June from Hereford and bringing it north (the 2nd Cav I have smuggled up here) to Scotland.

Can't wait!

1.6 big block LS so likely no ball of fire but as long as it goes well. All it probably needs is the famous* Split_Pin timing belt treatment, other than that it appears decent.

These shots were what sold it to me:

That came up on my local(ish) classic car search. It's probably not rotten as it's not Scottish and doesn't live by the sea

Going to venture into Bristol tomorrow and go to the local Moss Motors open day. Hopefully it's not going to misbehave itself in the city! It's not been back for a while and I'd rather it not have a fright.
Probably should wash it but I don't know if I'll get time to.

I'm off to the inaugural Castle Donington Classic Vehicle bollocks meeting in the morning. I shall be driving the classic antidote; Suzie the scruffy silver car and have spent three minutes this evening preparing a plaque to denote; 'Winner of Worst British Respray award 2017' as voted for by the twats on Autoshite.
I wonder if I'll be invited back.
