Not yet, I was waiting to see what the script was come MOT time before going baw deep in it. I'll be looking to get it done though as it's a really nice wee motor.

It's needed a couple of brake lines and an ABS sensor which were done prior to the MOT, then a big fat FAIL came in due to a bit of rot under the driver seat rail. Aberdeen registered car gonna Aberdeen. Permitted the man to attack it with the sparkly stick and it's all good. No other worries corrosion wise thankfully.

Sensible approach. At least you got the garage to weld it, none round my way would even consider this!

We were child free for a few hours today as my son was at a birthday party so we went for a coffee in the red 93. I'm getting to grips with the remap now as it's completely changed the car.

The car now has 360nm of torque which is 5 less than an E46 M3, which was noted for that figure at the time. Its incredibly quick now with a very fast throttle response and just wants to get on it all of the time.

I checked with Karl at Noobtune if the autobox could take this as it seems a hell of a lot of torque but he says he's never had a failure reported back yet. One of his customers in Thailand, where autos are apparently more popular, has a Saab with an engine delivering 500nm just to see how far it can be pushed. No destruction noted as yet.

My wife says it's way too quick for her liking though. Result!

You are literally at the other end of the country from me......... I do miss my Celsior soooooooooo much though.

How much did you have in mind? Asking for a friend 😀

Neighbour was continuing with his clear out so I ended up with a whole host of light bulbs, electrical connectors, metal drip trays, more tools (including a really neat old-fashioned torque wrench with the swing arm indicator on it), and a good sized bottle of welding gas that he no longer needs.  Even if the gas is only a little sniff in the bottom of the bottle that's fine by me, I've only got the tiniest bit to do on the Maestro and haven't been able to get a refill sorted due to other expenses lately.  He's warned me that there might be more stuff up for grabs as he continues the clear out and I have zero complaints, so much of the stuff has been genuinely useful odds and sods, some of which has been used quite regularly.

Had a poke round the Jag's engine this afternoon.  The noisy injector (if that's what it is) is in the left bank, but it doesn't seem to be the new one - the screwdriver-to-ear test showed that that one was the quietest.  I'm not 100% certain which of the remaining two is the culprit though - I'm going to have to find someone with software that can give a readout of injector flow rates or whatever to see which one is out of spec.  On the plus side my Delphi software reckons it can code a new injector in if it does need one.  This is the noise it makes:

I had another play with the 164 this afternoon - for some reason today it wouldn't start at all, it was firing but not well enough to keep running.  My neighbour came by and offered to help squirting Easy Start into the carbs while I cranked it over - this made no difference at all when squirted into the front carb, but when aimed into the rear carb (which is the one that seems to be working) it actually stopped the engine firing.  Which is all rather odd, and I'm not sure where to go from here...

Just got back from the opticians, many pennies lighter, and have new specs on the way.  I'm a bit overdue because of *waves hands at world*.  Prescription hasn't changed much, but just enough to push me into needing varifocals.  Hope I get on okay with them, it'll be nice to not do the specs shuffle when I'm working on the car with instructions, or when I'm checking stuff in the supermarket.

I got those varifocals recently - they take a bit of getting used to. It seems a strange thing to say but you have to have your head at a very particular angle for them to be in focus!

As I'm off for a few days I decided to pull the contents of the shed out, to tidy it up. Bloody last time I have a good idea.

In one box I found radio cassette and the spare headlights  for the Daimler, so not a total waste of time.    No1 son asked if he could have the Pioneer.

nice looking radio but where is he planning to fit that ? :)

Apparently, it would slot straight into the Fiat.

But it's back in the shed. I think he forgot about it.

I'm pretty pleased with how the Civic sedan came out after its recent partial respray.
Mimms Honda Day Three Sisters is coming up (the UK Honda show - and they bother to hold north and south events unlike most), and it's only in Wigan, so I thought to myself, I'll apply for show and shine, why the fuck not, it's not like I have a club stand to be on, and the general Honda parking will be right at the back if it's anything like Santa Pod was.

Checked my junk mail - I've only bloody been accepted.

Get the fuck in.

Bit more to do on this side but for the most part is done. The rear arch is still all the original metal other than the parts that rotted away at the bottom.

Edit: alternative image links as autoshit doesnt seem to handle the images too well aparently.

Cleaned the Audi. Not sat in it for a while. Christ it's comfortable, swathes of blue velour. Can't wait to eventually get it going again.

That is lovely. I bet Audi don't do blue velour anymore. Not even as a very expensive option. How much nicer does that look than any leather offering?

Sticking with late 80s stuff, almost, I have put these in the lazy spotters thread recently but this morning they were parked opposite each other allowing me to get these much better pics of the two together.

Had my first dose of new meds at asthma unit. I knew it would be fortnightly and eventually I would have to inject myself ( I have done this before ) - what I didn't know was one shot is three injections. Every two weeks. I will be like a charity shop dartboard.

Did three peak flow tests which left me feeling like I had ran a marathon.

Huh. So for shits and giggles I got the original color code mixed and sprayed it on. The original paint has really faded that much? It looks bloody orange compared to the real thing! It looks so good that I'm going to pull the engine and do the entire car in one go after getting the passenger side rot repair done. I was going to leave it for a later date.

The original freshly sprayed according to the colour code actually looks quite nice, in my humble opinion...

Yes I'd agree, get it painted in the original colour!

This will be fun - I've won a rather legitimate looking, poorly listed Nardi Classic on ebay  - collection only in Bolton. It's worth a lot more than £52 if legit.
The seller has a load of Evo parts for sale, seems they've cut one up. Part of me is expecting a fake wheel or something.

I've had good results getting older paint " Spectro" scanned, recent 90's red metallic Vauxhall was an exact match

I took a risk and flatted back the reacted third coat of paint on the filler flap.  It went well, didn't bother going all the way to perfectly smooth since the paint I'm using is on the thicker side and I didn't want to waste bags of time if it was just going to react again.

IMAG6349.thumb.jpg.007d34d28d55bbc84620d2a857ac7141.jpg

Results were promising.  Wasn't clogging the paper, hadn't gone through to primer or had any visible thin spots so risked a fourth and hopefully final coat.  Happily, no reaction on this round!  I'll let this harden for a few days and then I can cut and polish it.

IMAG6351.thumb.jpg.0e3edb464c95848e7b32ccf46f301f08.jpg

It's fresh off the brush there so it's a bit wibblywobbly.  Now it's had a bit of time to settle out, it's much better and you can see yourself in it so I'm happy enough with that.  On the larger areas I'm going to use a roller so I can get the paint down more evenly and quicker, there's not a lot of working time with this one and I don't want to be messing about with flow improvers and retarders and whatever.  Even though I slapped a load of pink on the car because I was impatient, this is the real test sample and I've a better idea of how this paint behaves and what finish to expect of it now.  End result won't be a deep gloss and that's okay.  As long as the car is tidy and shiny at the end of it, I don't really mind that it's going to look less shiny than a modern paint.  I'm determined to get this job done this year, when weather allows I'll be cracking on with the pink since that part of the car needs the least amount of prep work and only a couple of trim holes welding up.

The 320D has been getting further attention, mainly in the form of interior improvements.

Sick ICE install;

This executive sports tourer from 2003 must have been ordered by a right skinflint old giffer. Has optional wood trim, but was also fitted with a  tape player only, no CD changer. I have been very impressed with the £30 head unit. It sounds really decent and the bluetooth connectivity is great. The charging port does so at a satisfactory rate. I've fitted the same unit to the Kangoo now.

A few before and afters of some other improvements;

Browsing eBay I came across a set of 16 inch, style 306 BMW wheels. They had a day to run and had attracted only one bid. Done a last minute snipe and won them for the princely and appropriate sum of £3.20.

They were a ferry ride away in Dunoon, so a day out on the ferry with my kid was arranged.

A couple of the Pirelli tyres are OK but pretty old. Think I'll get them shod with some new tyres and hopefully punt the current seven spoke wheels on and maybe claw £50 or so back.

Think these new wheels will suit it quite nicely.  As it sits now for reference;
