The new news 24 thread

Since there is not much interest in my vehicle thread, I share this here as well. I changed the brakes on the right side rear the Vivaro today and when I took off the wheel I was met by this a brake pad lying by the spring.

20220310_103341.thumb.jpg.69714c0adfbf42696bb33c5644958b75.jpg

The brake pad is very rusty so it has been there for a while. And when I took off the brake caliper things got even worse.

And he who performed the inspection (MOT) has not noticed this something I struggle to believe is possible. And what do you think the brake pad may have droped out itself and ended up there or did someone take it out and put it next to the spring?

With this and that one of the brake calipers in front has started to leak (picture below) this was a death trap.

boot full of spares (Gates timing belt kit, exhaust centre and rear, all the exhaust fittings, repair panel for the rusty section of outer skin) and various other goodies. It's straight, tidy and runs well.

Pleasantly surprised to find it has a CD changer too!

£300. Mental innit?

The tyres are borderline so it's getting my VTi wheels:

Hope you keep posting on your thread too. People do read it even if they don't respond.

Shame you're having such an issue because of lack of simple maintenance.

Are the seals shot on the rear calipers or just the dust boots?

May be best to use the footbrake to push the piston out entirely and clean it up before refitting it, otherwise it will just tear the seal.

I will post this in my thread as well. I replaced the brake calipers at the back as they had never been replaced and did not look good. And I woud never dared to use that caliper in the picture. I'm starting to realize that the previous owner has not maintained this as well as I thought.

Same as the UK unfortunately, most, but not all vans are run on the tightest of budgets. Beggars belief that it passed an MOT, Norwegian equivalent, in that state, also that some wanker was prepared to sell that on in that state, they must have heard it everytime they braked. Good luck getting it back into roadworthy condition.

Yes I can say that I do not like the previous owner anymore. And I let my dad drive this 3 hours home.

And it was remarked on brakes on MOT but this is enough to get driving ban something it should have received.

Yep I feel your pain, my current van purchased May last year. Drove home all good, was thinking to myself what a lovely chap I'd purchased it from, got a relative bargain. Within a week he was the biggest wanker going, I very quickly sank just under £4k in it to get it upto daily couriering standard. Now I always expect to put a grand or 2 in fairly quickly, but the amount of neglect and bodged repairs I found left me feeling a right old mug.

I saw this picture earlier. That's a new one on me I can't imagine that's the best way to transport a car unless there's no fluids in them.

No photo description available.

Some of the current Volvo’s are made in China and travel to Europe by train just like that!*

*Or perhaps on a more conventional train.

There’s a young lad locally who has a warm Fiesta with a sun strip of similar proportions that says BEAST with the BEA in bright blue and the ST in black.

Every time I see it, it just looks like he’s changed his name to BEA…

Some of you may remember this Honda from the roffle thread a few weeks ago:

Scrubs up not too bad eh  ? I made the mammoth collection of around 3 miles from my house and it had sat on the drive for a week as I was busy at work. Finally took it out for a wash & a little get to know you drive & a short time later a brake hose decided to shit about 5 billion litres of fluid out on the way home which was a laugh*  So it was immobilised for another week or so till yesterday when it was finally replaced.

I'm trying to sweet talk a mechanic I know into swapping the gearbox over, it has a known issue dropping down from 3rd to 2nd gear were it makes an extremely unpleasant crunch, I can drive around it for now though. Plan is to get it through it's MOT in May and take it from there. I'll probably use it more than an I initially thought due to petrol prices being OMFG, makes sense when the rest of the fleet are thirsty bastards.

Overall VELLY PLEASED

BMW's gone.

I put it on Marketplace yesterday morning.

Two 'is this still available' and a swap for an E240.

I woke up in the middle of the night and a chap's messaged asking to view it.
I thought sod it, reply in the morning.

Messaged him around 9am, asking when he wants to view, he says today, can be there in a couple of hours - turns out he's in Rhyl.
Shows up at midday and looks over the car, says he's got £1,180 in cash and £30 in the bank, is that okay?

Damn right it is, £40 off asking price.

He sees the car starts, doesn't even look under the bonnet, hands over cash, V5 done, gone. Turns out he needed a car by Monday as he was getting fucked to the high heavens by a finance company on a Disco 3.
He's left in the E34 to get a mate and he's coming back later to pick up the Disco.

fucking WINNER.

Finally managed to source a rear hatch glass for my 205.

Took me ages to find one,but thankfully a mate turned one up on his travels.

More battered that a fish in a chip shop but the glass was intact.

A nice polish chap by the name of Eddie fitted it for me just a few mins ago, quite a battle to remove it from the old tailgate, but he had the tools and the talent.

Chuffed.
