However, I haz done a buy, collectioning this morning. There won't be all the excitement* of a live collection thread as I don't do breakfast (except on holiday), I rarely poo first thing, the car is only 30 mins away by car (or over 2.5 hours by train!) so Mrs J will drive her car back from the POS. It doesn't have an MOT, but it's on 65k and he wants fuck all for it. I showed my dad a picture of it and he just lit up and said he wants to buy it as our next project (and to nick the a/c for my mum's car). My mate with a welder that patches up cars for me now and then has expressed interest as well, but he lives in fucking Bristol and would have to retrieve it with an Astra H and a trailer, which is... yeah. And if he bought it I'd be buying the aircon off him anyway - I actually agreed that in principle but we're all now wondering when our Bristolian friend will pick the car up. Scotch lad wants the car gone, and there's cash waiting at my end. Bonus is it's an auto so it can can block the garage with no qualms from my folks, as they'll be able to move it. I'm waiting for him to get back from work so I can discuss a plan with him, and it looks like I'll need to investigate Shiply unless any Scotoshiters are heading south with a trailer? He seemed keen on them and genuinely liked them, they're not just old cars. He has an old Fiesta for everyday use, the Swift is for fun which is good to know. Then he says his uncle has one and he only lives in the next road so I've probably seen it. I hadn't because despite being an adjacent road, I don't deliver there so I took a little detour on my way back to the office. And found this little thing. It's been a bit pimped but it's a proper old one in a great colour. It has visible rust on the bonnet so lord knows what's underneath but it's still going. In Brownnova fleet news… The Elgrand is still at the garage, turns out the belt snapping was the result of a tight alternator. So replacement one procured and a wheel bearing, then hopefully an MoT and the (remarkably patient) new owner can hopefully finally get their car. The garage has had staff shortages and then staff off with the ‘Rona on top… but this really has taken some time! In true Brownnova style I’ve already got my eye on something else less practical and more risky. Possible arrival this weekend if I play my cards right, it’s very local (again… all my purchases in the last 12 months have been within 10 miles of my house except the Pontiac!) But that does mean that (sensible head on) one of the others should go, and likely it should come from the 90s exec stable as I have three of those. The 940 is staying, that thing is awesome. So it’s between the slightly broken but very long standing 9000 (the heart choice) and the low mileage and really very capable W210 (the head choice). Mainly because it's been so badly treated that there isn't anything on it worth taking for parts, so might as well see if it can scrape through a ticket with a bit of tinkering. I've started the ball rolling today by ordering a mid section and back box for the exhaust, as these are both missing which means that it currently sounds incredible* when running. The real pain comes when I have to pay for a windscreen and potentially a gearbox if the one on it transpires to be fubar, but that's all fun and games for the future. The group has a wide variety of cars and all are welcome. This is a smaller meeting usually with around 20 cars. I plan to be there, probably with the ex @richardmorris Mercedes E320 Coupe. wuvvum Posted March 4, 2022 Share Posted March 4, 2022 At lunchtime I jacked the front of the Rover up to have a better look at the spring situation. It's looking a bit awkward to be honest. The spring has completely come out of its seat and is resting in one of the tread grooves of the nearside front tyre - it's quite firmly wedged in there, even with the wheel off the ground and hence the shock at maximum extension, there's still a fair bit of tension on the spring. I can just about lever it off the tyre using a 3' crowbar braced against said tyre, but obviously that's not going to help me get the wheel off. There's nothing else suitable for levering against in the vicinity, and there isn't enough clearance to get the spring compressors in there either. I'm now at a bit of a loss as to how to proceed - not least how to get the wheel off without the spring going BOIIIIIIING and embedding itself in one part of my anatomy or another.
