Q5 is back from the dealer, apparently now fixed.

I've had a crawl under the front and if the tracking has been touched then I'm the king of England.  No visible clean spots on any of the locknuts or threads on the adjusters themselves.  No way that's been touched.  Of course no printout of the settings before/after.  Our wallet is £132 lighter for it though...

Robbing gits.  We're very glad that the next company car is a Skoda rather than another Audi as they have proven far less prone to problems, and the only one we did have they sorted politely and efficiently.

The tracking being out is allegedly classed as damage, so would be dealt with via the company insurer.  The excess however is £250, so straight out of our pockets.

I once took my car for bodywork and the dash cam was attached, I had a few bits of video from the guy doing the work. Nothing amiss, on fact he sent pics as well. But it would be amazing to have some footage to send to the dealer proving they'd done fuck all.

No it didn’t, someone had this on retention and I made a lowball offer on it. I’m currently looking for a cheap early 60s london issue reg for the p4 which was stripped of its originally issued reg in 1989, whilst it was residing in Lincolnshire oddly enough. Probably an illogical thing to do but that’s life sometimes.

My wife's ever neglected Seat Leon just passed it's MOT only needing a tyre. £98 inc the test.   We've spent a little money on it over the years but not really too much given it cost £850 4 years ago.

It still drives nice too although it's starting to get a bit cosmetically challenged and could do with a pair of front wings. I'm still not going to change the oil.

If it were our car we'd have kicked up more of a fuss, but with it not being ours they have us pretty much over a barrel.  Especially as it could be getting called in for return any day now.

Just glad the next one is not an Audi (means it might actually have suspension, won't that be novel...) and I think we'll be steering clear of them for a while if we can.  Though with the scheme you don't always get a huge choice, especially with the supply issues at the moment.

Not really my problem either given I can't even drive the damned thing because of some stupid small print in the finance agreement (not even the actual hire agreement), but I dislike seeing any of us being fleeced in broad daylight.

I’d put the reg on the P4 if it was mine,  while not the original area it’s roughly the right age and would look miles better than whatever replacement reg it has now.

Chrysler Voyager MOT time. Of course the weather, super mild of late, turns to single digit temperatures and sleet just in time for me to prep it. Still, with a freshly charged battery and the jump pack connected, it fired up the day before, and dutifully warmed up at idle, while i checked tyre pressures, fluids, lights and wipers etc. The ABS light has been on solidly for a couple of months now, so it went into the local independent MOT garage with instructions to fix. Aaaaand.....

All done for £145. I'll take that, esp as it included a new o/s/f sensor and they didn't have to fix anything else to give it another year's ticket. One advisory: corrosion on the underside. Yes. I must deploy the pressure washer with the underbody-spray trolley i treated myself to in the autumn.



Splashing about a bit of rust killer, paint and possibly some underseal on it needs to be a job on my list for 2022.

Stopped at the dealership today, when car was meant to be ready.

Apparently they cannot find anything and the car was on download/communiqué with Infiniti HQ when we got there so apparently we get it back tomorrow.

Guy said he has had bad fuel from the station I filled up at and had the car go into reduced power mode. That didn't flag any faults which was strange.

I guess working on cars these days is a bit like updating an Xbox

Maybe causing knock detection to strangle the performance and feel like a reduced power mode but not quite far enough to trigger a code?

When I bought the Merc I was told it had been bought from an insurance company as a cat S write off and that’s why the V5 was absent. It was probably a bit ill advised to continue with the purchase… but I took the gamble anyway.

Now some time later the V5 I applied for arrived… 

No sign of any category.

My previous Civic that was written off is a Cat N and doesn't show on the V5. Shows up on a HPI/similar check though.

Would you recommend one? My accord has just failed needing a bit of welding, time to change i think. Can`t decide between this shape as a hatchback or spend more to get the tourer. Or spend even more more on the new shape with the 1.5t. I like Hondas

One of my Civics was like that - it'd been sandwiched in an accident and had repairs at both ends, to significant expense. Auto Trader claimed it was a Cat C but the V5 was clean.

Going to try avoiding writing an essay and keep to the point!

10th gen civic are, unsurprisingly, far better. My mate has a 1.5t with the CVT and it's a cracker. Bloody quick for what it is and responsive. Chain on the 1.5t, belt on the 1.0t. Size wise they are the same as an Accord, which is why they discontinued the Accord in the UK. I didn't get one as they are still expensive. My mate saw exact same spec and year as his, with more miles for the same price he paid for his 2 years ago. 

9th gen Hatch Civic have a pretty decent boot still. Mrs SiC really wanted the estate which is why we got one. Her friend has one too and loves it. Tourers aren't necessarily any more expensive, just rare and so you'll need to do the miles to find one. We ended up doing over 800 miles in 2 days to find this as only 4 suitable (ULEZ/CAZ compliant) in the UK. Hatches in comparison are far more plentiful.

I'd love a 10th gen but I'd have had to spend an extra 50-100% more than already I have. This cost nearly 10 grand and to me that is a lot of money for a cooking model 6 to 7 year old car. Needs must but I have conceded that I will have lost 6-8k in the next 3-5 years. Newer will be loosing even more. 

How tall are you? The 8th/9th gen had magic seats. Honda achieved this by putting the fuel tank under the front seats. This means leg room is compromised and you are sitting quite high up. 10th gen ditched this as Honda did the same civic world wide. The American market likes more room and biggest market, thus dictates that. My mate is well over 6ft and can easily fit in a 10th gen but no chance in a 8/9th gen. This may be a deciding factor for you.

Also most 10th gens have adaptive cruise. This was nearly a deciding factor in me getting one. Just budget overruled that.

Your car seems a nice example, they do seem rare. A local tourer at a delaer sold in couple of hours.

Its frustrating that had I bought a 9th gen 18months ago I would of been content spending maybe 7k. A 10th gen as you say is more, I havent yet driven one but the additional power would be useful. 

Good point on the seating, i`m 5`10 so should be ok.
