I was a bit skeptical at first but they have a fun sense of humour which rare these days, especially so given he is representing his company after-all LOL  

since they are in Wales I wonder if @dollywobbler can arrange a Routemaster road test?  

I didn't know that. I don't go to you tube very often because I know once you do you can be there for hours but I shall definitely go and check that out. 

I hadn't met the owner, Alan, until that London run on December 11th but I spent 10 hours on the bus then and he does indeed seem like a decent guy. It's nice to see it go a good home and it works for a living now too.

A lot of the older ones never made it up to wrexham. Looks like they just did the park n ride to Chester Centre Route. My favourite ( and my parents remember them running) was the brown and cream city of chester double decker.

Firstly, it doesn't need much, I'll be driving it before long unless the weather turns crap in which case I'll wait until it gets better. 

Secondly, volvo pictured is cornering a gentle curve at 20mph. It's just always this exciting everywhere you go.

Isn't that part of the reason that they aren't ever charged for - so they don't class as a stage carriage service and therefore avoid a heck of a lot of paperwork?

I don’t know, but they were collecting for the nightingale house hospice but not charging a fee. Programmes on sale for £5.

Forecast for Chester is dry from 8am onwards… I think it’ll be fine. 

It’s at Cheshire Sports club on Mannings Lane. Usually gets going about 9. I think it should be a good turnout for this one… but you never know!!

I thought it was at the lakes near doddleston? My dad used to go when it was in the castle.

Did a car shuffle on the drive. The landlord insists on keeping 10-car's worth of space as lawn in front of the house, on the shaded side, so this involves reversing and playing sliding tiles.

Puma and MX-5 now angled so in theory, either can be got out without moving the other.

Car shuffle is because the Mazda 323 is now in prime spot in front of the garage, so I can check it over and get it ready for MOT. The Tavria's on the battery charger and the BMW's just waiting for bits, but sod it, I am GOING to get that little Ukrainian car registered damnit. Somewhere there will be an MOT tester who, if they don't read the damn tester's manual, will at least take my word for it that I have read the relevant section...

Which was kindly delivered by @Robson3022this morning. We were meant to be driving to pick it up this morning but due to Mrs Robson having plans that we couldn't work around he offered to drive it down. 

Plan is to tidy it up a bit bodywise and maybe lob a rear kitchen in it where the rear seats are and smoke around on it during the summer. 

I'm gonna have to decat it too as I won't stop worrying about it otherwise. The innards of the front cats can crumble and destroy the engine or summink. Some say do the front, others say just do the back so I'm gonna do my own research and blame it all on Dr Fauci, Bill Gates and big campa when it all goes wrong.

This monster was running like garbage which, I think, was just a loose rocker post and gargantuan valve clearance. 

Now nailed back down and valve clearances set to HBoL values. Well, sort of - it also says to set the clearances when hot, which sounds both difficult and painful so I'm not going to bother for now. 

We ran it for a little bit and it sounded very healthy so that's a good sign, but roads are too manky to do any serious running. 

Next job is to straighten up the rear suspension. It's had a biff up the backside which has tweaked the rear axle out of whack, so some pig-iron based surgery is required.

We’ve bought a fitting kit from Halfrauds so we can whack a normal radio in it.

Chester cara and coffee this morning. Last time I went it was a fairly small but nice affair. This time we’ll over 300 turned up and it was a bit mad! Definitely more pop and bang than popular plus… but amongst the McLarens and the Tuned Mercs…. 

Thought it was a bit far for @Slowsilver and @quicksilver. And it was.. it was some beardy bloke. 

And some purple Volvo over by the shopping containers! 

Saw @Cavcraft on my way round too so a thoroughly pleasant morning!

Steamy Volvo picnic.

We planned to take the 240 up to Glencoe today but the weather turned to complete grimness. We decided to turn back at Crianlarich and boot the car's arse over the back roads on the way home.

Despite the bucketing rain it was a reassuring and comfortable drive. It's a really competent car and a lot of fun to drive. Classic yes, but doesn't feel remotely old.

On the subject of elderly blue Volvos, I backed the 164 up onto the ramps this afternoon to see if I could get the in-tank fuel filter out and give it a clean.  I undid the plug at the bottom of the tank where the diagrams I have found online indicate the fuel filter should be (right below the pick-up pipe) but although the plug came out fine there was no sign of a filter.  I stuck a screwdriver up through the hole and waggled it around and found nowt but empty tank.  So I don't know what's happened there.  At least now the tank is completely empty I can pop the sender out of the top again and shine a torch in there to try and see what's what - that'll be a job for tomorrow, weather permitting.

I was also supposed to be fitting a new hub nut to the Mazda this weekend, but the second wheel bearing kit I've bought also has a reverse thread nut.  I'm wondering whether the QH references are wrong and have the nearside bearing listed as offside and vice versa.  I've now ordered a bearing kit for the "other" side in the hope that that will contain the correct nut.  The car isn't really drivable at the moment - the nut was barely more than finger tight when I went to undo it, and that was after only a few miles.

I did manage to get the DPF pressure pipe fixed on the Laguna, and the replacement pressure sensor fitted.  It was an awkward twat of a job, as you'd expect on a modern, and I now have skinned knuckles and the face of my watch is badly scratched (forgot to take it off - that's why I never buy expensive watches), but it seems to have done the trick.  It's a proper bodge job mind - the previous repair had been done using rubber fuel pipe, which was fine except that running rubber pipe less than an inch away from the cat is not going to be a long-term solution - the pipe had essentially melted.  I've replaced the section of pipe which runs over the cat with 1/4" copper brake pipe, which should be a bit better at coping with heat.  I'm going to press the car into "daily" service for a bit to see if it holds together - it's not a bad thing to drive when it's running right, it rides nicely and being an automatic it's quite a relaxing steer.  Hopefully the fuel consumption will improve somewhat too as it was rather dismal before.

As a holiday treat, having built all the shelving at the new place and emptied the rented storage container, I've been playing at being a librarian:

 

So far Autosport and Classic Cars have been stacked in the most inaccessbible corner and I've sorted through Classic & Sportscar, Car and Road & Track. Discovered I have a few early '70s and early '80s gaps in my run of Car magazine. R&T will never be complete, I just like having a selection.

Elephants in the room are Autocar, What Car? and Car & Driver, I have a lot of those three. Plus a whole load of others......

I feel like I'm going through some physical manifestation of a computer defrag, or doing one of those puzzles where one blank square is needed to move tiles around and create a complete picture.

80 miles done since the head gasket replacement on the Princess.  No drama so far and we've got past the mileage that the last gasket failed at so while I'm still cautiously optimistic, I'm leaning more towards optimism and less towards caution now.  It's also running so much better for fresh fuel and some miles under the tyres.  If we make it to 100 miles with no fuss I'll reward it by actually cleaning it.

Breaking with tradition on two counts, I've done some chod bothering, AND taken pics...

The pink Corsa has had a dehumidifier parked inside it for the last week, and it's now nicely dry, so i thought it about time the fuse/relay box got refitted. Praying that it doesn't let rain in after refitting this time.



Next job was applying some copex to the part of the loom connecting the temp sensor on the t/stat housing, as the original protection is long gone and my bodged insulation tape has gone brittle too.

While on a roll, and the rain was holding off, the n/s headlamp got a bit of a polish to remove the yellowed plastic, and a bucket of soapy water applied to the bits of bodywork that have started to go green from neighbours rather sad conifer.

I hope this is not the end of my fettling for 2022. There's lots to be done...
