(anyone got a spare Ullbricht sphere? LOL) Sadly not any more...I had got a pretty good setup which worked as a crude one in the flat in Aberdeen. The (tiny en suite) bathroom was all white aside from a pale grey floor and I figured out that with a good light meter taking an indirect reading off the wall furthest from the light source and some maths from a known source I could get a pretty good relative reading - an arbitrary number which was easy enough to convert to lumens. Obviously it depended on how close to the expected output the 40, 60, 100 and 200W incandescent lamps I used to create the reference curve were to their specified values in terms of giving an actual lumen output - but it worked well for comparing the relative output of two sources and tracking lumen depreciation over time. mat_the_cat and LightBulbFun

wuvvum
I fixed* the Mazda today. It's not pretty, but it holds water and it's circulating OK. It's still running a bit cool but I'm not sure there's much more I can do about that. I imagine it will be several months, if at all, before the missing radiator fan becomes an issue. No idea why the photo is on its side. EightMegs, Stevebrookman, Sigmund Fraud and 3 others

MJK 24
Uprated bulb people… I have found the best to be Phillips +150%. They’ve knocked Osram Nightbreakers off my previous top spot. These are H4 in a Merc 190. I don’t understand the Lumens comments before (because I’m a thicko) but there’s a huge real world difference between these and a big standard H4. brownnova
Pontiac had been at the back of the drive so hadn’t turned a wheel in a good few weeks… so thought I’d take it out for a Pre-Christmas bimble. Started first time, no hesitation and drove as if I’d just parked it yesterday! Even the tyres were still fully inflated! Split_Pin
Replaced the coolant cap on the Saab today. The yellow top had sheared off the body of the cap and the rubber seal meant it was stuck in fast in the header tank. The top of the black part is supposed to be attached to the yellow cap. As you can see it now looks quite chewed as it took some work to get it out, evidenced by the tools in the background. New one was only a few quid, hopefully it holds OK. Part of the front grille was also pushed in as you can see just below my hand. Something was stopping the black part pulling out so some BF&I caused something unseen to snap and fall to the ground, but it now all sits flush, if a touch loose. Better than it was. Just the thermostat to do now. Its definitely less fiddly looking than the one in the Cavalier however it was in the garage and it was summer. This is unlikely to fit in there and it's obviously winter so it's being done early January by the local garage.
reb
It's Christmas Eve, and also a Friday. I fancy a takeaway, the question is will they be open? If not I suppose it'll be tinned curry and microwave rice again. How very festive! GrumpiusMaximus and LightBulbFun 1

reb
Indeed they are open, they opened 3 minutes ago! The closer place to me is also open but collection only, which I don't like because parking is awful in town. I just placed my delivery order with the other place as soon as they opened, so if they are busy I'll be near the front of the queue. Sometimes I've had to wait nearly 3 hours for food from them, but it's always hot so I don't mind! LightBulbFun and juular

andyberg
Not really sure if this is the correct thread or if there is a correct thread?? I just want to say to everyone have a great Christmas and New year. The forum keeps me sane, most of the time. Always something interesting to read. Let's hope next year we can all meet up ' officially' and enjoy much more chod. So merry Christmas, happy new year, stay safe and enjoy what ever company you can. It's great fun, surprisingly chuckable and manouverable for such a big brick, great visibility and very very comfy! Probably the easiest manual car I've ever driven, it just feels right. It is however slow as a week in jail above 50mph. It's definitely not running properly and surges above 2500rpm. It's 130bhp and not as heavy as you'd expect, I think 0-60mph should be in the region of 10-12 seconds. I'm definitely nowhere near that. I've double checked the timing is right and adjusted the ignition timing which has no effect. I reckon something isn't right with the fuel system. A tiny movement can have a big impact on the performance of the lamp optics, even if the actual output hasn't dropped much. Case in point nicely demonstrated here. My nearside headlight failed yesterday so had a new lamp in today. Here's the offside on, still with an old lamp in. You can clearly see how much more sharply defined the beam is. Austat
We had a small "The Grand Tour" marathon whilst we had Christmas dinner today. I thought it was a shame that they wrecked in a rare RHD Lada 1200 in Lochdown, but it will probably be restored to an enthusiast I imagine as it wasn't a complete heap, like this Marina they used in a promo clip: https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1115118_car-on-which-jeremy-clarkson-dropped-a-piano-is-for-sale-mid-restoration-its-a-morris-marina I remember seeing it on eBay, it's an "Apple Jack" green saloon from 1983.
