The 75 is a stonker, it's the best car I've ever owned. Ive owned it nearly 2 years now. The service history is in a ring binder from the previous owner, each item in its own poly pocket. He spent a sizeable amount on a suspension rebuild and fitted 3 replacement auto gearboxes until he got one he was satisfied with. It's remapped too so goes really well.

I pressed the Saab into service this evening and did a big Christmas booze shop,  still going spot on.

I emptied 6 disks out the car and left that 😂

I've been having an issue with that since my booster, and I can't work out if it's that or the medication I'm on.

First proper night's sleep in several days - feel almost human again.

Still got 7 days isolation so I'm going to attempt to be more physical today and wash MrsH's Laguna, as I've genuinely not had it in me to do anything other than watch Netflix and browse on my phone.

Baby still not here (mercifully) and MrsH still testing negative. Her isolation period is up too so she can go out and get the shopping in etc.

The Rover 75 is sorted. The gentle coolant leak was gradually getting worse, so off it went to the garage who diagnosed a knackered thermostat to be the culprit. Luckily* this is hidden deep down in the Vee between the cylinder banks & requires much time to be spent dismantle before you can even see the bloody thing. The coolant leak is cure. Do you know, to fill a 2.5 litre KV6 up from minimum to maximum coolant takes what appears to be just less than 200ml of fluid. I'm no engineer, but that doesn't appear to leave much margin for error does it? How often do folk check their big Rovers?

The Scirocco is still irritating me. The tracking is set, but the camber is out. Chap can't correct that because the bolts are seized and he's waiting for replacements before he removes them with much force. The tick-over is also griefing me up a little. It will start easily with choke or a pump on the pedal, but after a mile/five minutes around the houses, the tick-over becomes erratic and requires choke. Then as the engine warms up, the idle speed becomes just that little bit too fast. 

I'm sure it'll all be right by next xmas...

The other thing that annoyed me with my 75 V6 Auto was the temp needle sat perfectly at mid normal until it was hot and went straight to max. If it had started to creep up I would have known there was a problem developing. Turned out to be the electric fan stopped working and the amount of dismantling made it look like I had crashed it!

It's looking like the DIC has died. Should I go with an ebay special or go to the local saab specialist who has one in stock for £260?

Personally, I would go genuine. It may be dearer but not long term. Ebay specials range from just as good as genuine through to paper weight straight out of the box. Most last around a year...

So, do you feel lucky? :-)

75 is in the garage today for both front suspension top mounts and they discovered that the NSF spring is also broken. They normally go through the front tyre. A new spring is a lot cheaper than a tyre so lucky escape!

You haven't found how much the top mounts are yet!

MX5 has developed a new noise recently under certain conditions, which I think might be related to a slightly dragging brake, or something in that area.

I'm sure* it's not safety critical (brakes aren't that important are they) so I'll live with it until either I die in a horrific brake-related accident or survive long enough to investigate between Christmas and new year - unless it fixes itself, which this car has now done three times already.

To paraphrase something that someone else recently wrote on here, '...it's for decoration only and doesn't move unless the coolant is frozen solid or the engine is on fire'.

Every 2 weeks. If you have the translucent header tank,  get a small torch or if you have a smartphone use the one on that. Press it to the rear of the tank and move it right to the nearside corner and the beam will shine through the coolant and tell you where its at. Saves undoing the cap repeatedly as keeping the seals in good condition is particularly important on a Rover.

You can also enter diagnostic mode (Google will find it) and this will tell your the precise temperature of the coolant. The guage is indeed designed to be linear until its too late - useless.

Feeling like shit at the moment with life seemingly wanting to conspire against me. Anyhow to cheer myself up, I've been doing a bit of Moggie work. Not many pictures as not feeling up to another write up.

Got the master cylinder in though, remote brake reservoir and gravity bled the brakes. Still air in them, so will need to try pumping them with an assistant. But there is pedal pressure now and I've been able to adjust the rear drums + handbrake.

Also put the fuel tank in and gave it a start. Took quite a lot of churning to get it to start but eventually it did. Then a huge amount of smoke as the carb overflowed onto the exhaust. Wasn't overflowing before, so no idea why it's decided to now. Unfortunately a replacement needle and seat are backordered at most places.

Apart from that, it just needs the offside rear outer wing bolting back on and going for a drive.

Looking good on the weller wheels though.

Well it turns out @barefoot and @fatharris were closer to the truth than they thought, after having agreed a time to view the car with the seller, I messaged him an hour beforehand only for him to tell me he wasn't in and would let me know when he was back. I messaged him two hours later asking if he would be in or not, he read it instantly then replied 20 minutes later saying he thought he'd be home late and had no idea what was going on in his absence, which was a bit cryptic. Said he'd get back to me tomorrow - I'll believe that when I see it. 

I doubt I'll end up getting it but you never know - it's a very tidy 960 on 120k with 11 months test, for £1k.
