EightMegs
The brake shoe springs on a Toyota LiteAce have destroyed my fingers. Surely they don't need to be that stiff. Barry Cade

brownnova
Genuinely considering taking the 2CV off the road for the winter this year to preserve it as there are just a few small areas of corrosion finding their way to the surface. The MoT runs out this week, so it would be a natural time to put it on SORN and leave it till the spring has sprung. Also definitely want to reduce the Pontiac usage over winter. The back axle is fine for now, but I reckon a few winters heavy usage and I’d need a new one… which I don’t really fancy shipping over! Will avoiding the winter in them really help that much? I’ve never done it before…

Usually she doesn't go but I've been feeling shite from a cold and she was a useful backup driver. So despite a 70s theme in the paddock, I took the Boxster as she will happily drive that unlike the MGB GT. Tbh probably the right choice given the cracking soft-top weather we had. Saw Panhard65 too with his Dodge Hearse but didn't manage to get a photo before he left. Given salt on the roads, there was quite a larger amount of Moderns that went this time. I'll give you one photo of one as I desperately wanted one of these when I passed my test. Probably many others too and hence why they are quite expensive for what they are. X914VSF in Imperial Blue. August 2005. 2nd car I owned. Worked every hour I could to make the ££££ to upgrade from my Ka. It felt like a rocketship in comparison. I was obsessed with it and could probably still list all the differences between a "phase 1" and "phase 2" car. wuvvum
Weather was quite nice this weekend so I got a few bits done, not all fleet related though. The new voltage regulator for the 164 turned up so I fitted that yesterday - it's improved matters somewhat in that the battery light now comes on when the ignition is switched on, but it doesn't go out when the engine is started. I tried flashing the field as suggested on the Ask a Shiter forum, but that hasn't made any difference. So it looks like I'm going to have to fork out for a new alternator - I might wait until after Christmas though, the car won't be going any further than a battery-charge's worth over the next few months. I also taxed the car, for the first time in nearly 10 years. This afternoon was the big annual garage changeover - the Innocenti has come out of the garage and is residing on the driveway for now, and the Renault 6 and the boat have gone away into the dry for the winter. This necessitated a lot of rearranging of junk, and the Picasso has taken on the role of temporary shed for the time being. The Volvo is currently parked on the road until alternative arrangements can be made. At the moment there are three pushbikes in the garage where the Spacy normally lives - I may find a new home for those or I may just leave the Spacy on the patio for now with the bargain £3.99 motorbike cover I picked up from the Middle of Lidl the other day. I really do need another van though... Also had a nice chat with my neighbour down the road who's recently bought himself a 1970 Austin 1100. It'd been stood for a while and needed a good polish and a new set of tyres, but it's a surprisingly solid old thing and he reckons it drives nicely. He'd just had the suspension pumped up by a garage in the next village that has a Dalek. He paid £1200 for it which sounds pretty reasonable to me. Split_Pin
I phoned the garage again today about the Audi exhaust. Again, he didn't get to it. Said one of his mechanics was off as his wife had Covid so they were short staffed. Bullshit. I got that same excuse when I had the green Cavalier stuck at Automec for a month. I'm working away tomorrow so there was no point in telling him to shitcan it but I said I'll phone again tomorrow whence I will tell him to fucking forget it and I'm collecting it on Wednesday. Unlike since October 5th, unless he's got a really thick skin, he would have been able to tell that I gave no shit about his excuse and that I was audibly becoming quite pissed at him. richardmorris
In a superb* bit of coincidental timing, I have two cars to MOT next week. X1/9 booked in for Monday at the usual place in hengoed and the 2cv is being serviced and motd by my friend rick on Friday. Plus a funeral on Tuesday means it’s all fun, fun, fun. The fiat has done so few miles in the last two years I think it’s over £10 a mile cost! My dad’s DS4 is also being motd on Thursday. Those 1100/1300 used to hide loads of rot, obviously most of it would be picked up on the annual MOT, now that they are mostly exempt if imagine a lot are running about with the kickboards, floors and trumpets full of wob. Can’t be arsed to get shit done in 2021? Blame COVID. I might ring HMRC and explain I’m 24 months behind paying them anything due to COVID, they’ll be fine with that. 🤣 Split_Pin, Tadhg Tiogar and Fumbler

Never mind that it didn't have loads of power, it was ace to drive. Not long after I had a 1.6 Ghia for a weekend and I remember travelling down the A303 at three figures. Absolutely loved it. These memories were what prompted me to buy and restore a Puma - basically the same thing with a nicer, less practical dress. All these MK4 Fiesta derivatives (Ka, Puma) like to rust, which is a shame. Get one while you still can, even the 1.25 Fiesta is a laugh. aldo135
Finally got my S70 back with an MOT. Took it to a local specialist as I wasn’t organised enough to get booked at my usual place, and said specialist had space and was walking distance from the house. Happy with the service but got stung with a £700 bill! This was also sorting a coolant leak to be fair but thought it would be £500 ish 🙈 Six-cylinder, Minimad5 and dome

Google says it's underneath the centre arm rest but I can't see it. I'm meant to be taking it abroad next week, but today it decided to show me the EML. I was 50 miles away at the time but got home OK. Could be something minor I suppose, but EMLs and limp modes aren't something I want to play roulette with 600 miles away. TIA.
