Split_Pin
Many thanks to @320touring today for his guidance and help with the Audi exhaust. We found it was blowing in 4 different places. 2 from the bottom of the downpipe and 2 further back at either end of a small silencer. Much mig welding and grinding later... VID-20210718-WA0001.mp4 I think its still blowing... Yep it is, arse. It's better than it was but ultimately the exhaust is at the end of it's life. I am currently considering my options but a fabricated replacement is looking the most sensible way to a permanent solution. Cheers also to @jaypee for the len of his big jack. Getting the car high enough was an issue before but now that it was almost level with the upstairs rooms in my house, there was much more space and light. louiepj, HMC, juular and 8 others

brownnova
A bloody hot jaunt in the 2CV over to Capesthorne Hall today. 15 minute queue in and a 20 minute queue out notwithstanding (complete with several overheating MGBs) it was an excellent show, far better attended than I have ever seen any previous event at Capesthorne! Have some prime AS fodder… Complete with Hubnut sticker, the Corolla owner could be heard yelling power less is more at me as we pulled alongside one another at traffic lights on the way home. wuvvum
Not got a huge amount done this weekend as the weather was too hot to be crawling around under cars, but I did have another crack at the Toyota's brakes - I think I've got the rears adjusted properly now, they're not binding anymore and the handbrake feels about right. The pedal still isn't quite there but it's better than it was. I've done as much as I can (I even bled them all again) so will just have to see what the MOT man says on Wednesday. Today I dug the Mobylette out of the garage to take some photos to send to the cyclemotor club so they can do me a dating certificate. I gave it a quick rinse off first as it was rather dusty from its lengthy slumber. I tried kicking it over just to see what would happen and, once I'd remembered which way was "on" for the fuel tap, it actually fired up fairly easily. I definitely didn't* then put my helmet on and ride it back round the corner to the garage. It's odd that a 40-year-old French 2-stroke can fire more or less straight up after being untouched for a year, and yet the supposedly bombproof 4-stroke Honda doesn't want to know... TheOtherStu
From a personal point of view, on Saturday, I decided it would be hot enough to change my shocks and drop links, so I did 🤣 I was a proper melting mess by the time I came in. Was going to do more work on the car yesterday, but decided against it so built a BBQ instead. In proper autoshite tradition though, one of the members of my car group has got a particularly shit Dahaitsu Cuore AUTO. He bought it for £200 to teach his girlfriend to drive in. Over the weekend, he took it off-roading and apparently, it did fantastically. FWIW, I have no idea why it has yellow lights. He really does need to join this forum. As well as having an MR2 Roadster, his daily is a 22 year old Micra. louiepj, LightBulbFun, Coprolalia and 8 others

Split_Pin
Think back to that horrible winter of 2010. I swore I'd never complain of it being too hot again and I never have. It's glorious out. brownnova
One out!! Spotted an identical one at the show on Sunday, and went over to speak to the owner “It’s not for sale is it?” He joked… “funny you should say that” said I. Yoss
This was in my van today. That's the hottest I've ever seen it. Previous high I'd noticed was 36c. This was obviously after it had parked up for 20 mins or so, it goes down as soon you start driving. Trouble is I never move more than a couple of hundred yards at a time so it never goes down much. And I'm guessing the sensor is behind the front bumper which is unpainted black. So obviously not accurate but still bloody hot. richardmorris, Cord Fourteener, Lacquer Peel and 1 other 2

Supernaut
I've been away for over a week now. You know, nothing major. Just a move over 100 miles across Scotland to a new job. Broadband is now live in the flat, ooof it feels good. First day at the new job today, too. It's normal to end up wandering around a remote fish farm in the hills north of Glasgow on the first day of a job in IT infrastructure, right? wuvvum
Got the brake drum off the Innocenti today, having found that a Poundland claw hammer was exactly the right size and shape to lever the handbrake mechanism to the fully released position. Oiled up the pivot inside the drum, as well as the shoe pivots, and put a dab of copper grease on the back plate where the shoes slide over it. Also squirted a load of spray grease onto the cable for good measure, although I don't think the cable is the issue. Apart from a brief moment of idiocy when I tried to refit the drum with the handbrake still applied, it went OK - it's nice and dry in there and the shoes still have loads of meat on them. The handbrake is definitely freeing up now - it's to the point where it's probably free enough to pass a test, although it is still sticking very slightly. I also refitted the exhaust with a load of assembly paste (works better than Gun Gum at sealing joins), a new secondary clamp and a bit of metal slathered in exhaust paste to help reinforce the previously fitted bandage which was starting to blow through. I also tightened up the clamps properly this time, using a ratchet rather than a pissy 13mm spanner, and the whole thing feels a lot more rigid now. It's quietened things back down too, which is good. So just a patch of welding to be done and it should be almost MOT ready. The Spacy must have heard me slagging it off yesterday as that now runs too. My expert* repair of the fuel tap seems to have done the trick - fuel is now flowing through rather than dribbling as it was before, and it's not leaking anymore. The idle is far too high and the exhaust is blowing fit to wake the dead, but one of those two is easily enough resolved - the other a bit more complicated as this exhaust is beyond welding, I have a spare exhaust in weldable condition but it's currently buried somewhere in a mate's garage so will have to try and dig that out. The headlight dip switch is going to need taking out and cleaning / lubing as well, and the front brake cable is sticking quite badly. So still a fair bit to do before it can go back on the road...
