trigger
In other news I've been busy on the Golf, I've spent many hours polishing and cleaning it up and it's now looking quite respectable. Hopefully you can see the difference in shine here. I've removed a load of the tat and stickers off the car, serviced it, fixed a few bits and today replaced the 165/65/13 tyres for the correct 175/70/13 Uniroyals which have transformed the way the car drives and wound back up the coilovers by a inch. I've also removed them shit German plate surrounds now too. With the 165 tyres And the 175s The rear quarter trim should be here tomorrow and all in all its bloody lovely now! Zelandeth
Oops. Slight misjudgement of line driving into the garage. At least it was a mostly empty tin or I'd have a godawful mess to clean up! Also very glad it was that rather than the tub of CV joint grease...which I've now moved to somewhere safer. tooSavvy and LightBulbFun

egg
Late Brake show confirmed for Deal on 7th August with Johnny Smith. He's chosen the extreme East of Kent, so not the most accessible to most. I might go. £20 tho! https://thelatebrakeshow.com/kent Richard Porter is coming too. dome
busmansholiday
Who the fook left that bfo bit of a tree hidden in the undergrowth where I was turning the car? Fortunately it just* pushed the fog light upwards, and bust all the brackets. Oh well, super glue and gaffa tape to the rescue. Nobody will ever notice. I've got some nice free standing metal shelving, the issue really is that EVERYTHING needs to come out and be sorted. A lot of things back in there are from when I had to clear my parent's house at zero notice, twice. It's a big job, and having shelving is only one aspect of it. tooSavvy

I feel a bit of tinkering with the throttle sensor may be needed, but it idles so damn nicely now. Beer time. glad to hear that it sounds like you got to the bottom of the issue at long last I do wonder now how many of the other parts you have thrown at it are actually still good and may be worth flogging on again to recuperate some of the cost? wuvvum
I ran the Innocenti round to a mate's last night so he could give me a hand trying to get the brakes bled (he's quite good with brakes, unlike me). It was the first time it's been further than the local Tesco in over a year. It made it there and back fine but had a bit of a misfire under load at low revs sometimes, so I might treat it to a set of plugs and leads. Clutch is also still slipping like a twat, but I want to get it back on the road first before I tackle that. I also lost one of the exhaust clamps off my "new" cobbled together system - it was a clamp that I'd had laying around for years and one of the threaded ends snapped, which sometimes happens with cheap clamps - the fact that I'd hit a pheasant a few minutes earlier might have had something to do with it as well. We had a bit of a kerfuffle getting anything to come through the rear flexis, but we got there in the end and it now has four working brakes and the pedal is a lot closer to where it should be. The handbrake is still sticking on the driver's side though and it seems like it might be the mechanism inside the drum, so I'll be taking the car back round there at some point so we can get his puller on the drum and also for him to do the bit of welding on the rear inner arch. Once that's done it should be as ready for a test as it will ever be - I just hope it doesn't fail on some random unobtainium suspension bush or something... Split_Pin
Cavalier oil change disaster. First it didn't like the Pela so I drained it the traditional way. The oil filter was an utter bastard to get off, it was FFFFT. Next, the filter Opie oils sent me was completely wrong, it doesnt even fit on the thread. The old filter is not reusable as its a bit mullered now. I've screwed it back on and filled with fresh oil at least. The worst part is that NOWHERE sells the right filter. Fuck!! TheOtherStu
Talking of things that shouldn't ever take too long. I've had an absolute mare of a couple of weeks. Firstly, got my car back from engine replacement and they'd forgot to put my locking wheel nut in the car. That's fine, not normally a major biggy, but I've taken a day off work to change the springs and fit some brake pads ready to go away and the garage that did it is 80 miles away and I've only just realised when I've come to take the wheels off. So spent the first half of the day fashioning a 10mm socket to fit. The first one broke. The second one broke the adapter so had to find a 1/2 inch one that I could spare. That managed to get 3 wheels off, but the 4th had been torqued up so ridiculously that it wouldn't go, even with a breaker bar. So had to resort to a dremel and carefully taking off the sleeve and then using an Irwin socket to remove. I've thrown them all away anyway - I had another set already. Once I'd done that, the 17 year old rear suspension decided that it really didn't want to come off. Rusty as a ginger man's bollocks, the casing was falling to bits. So having got me where I was going, I'm now going to have to take the whole rear apart again and put 2 new replacements in. Also, whilst changing the pads, the front discs were absolutely rotten. Literally bits of rust coming off in my hand. So now I have another dozen jobs to do. Replace rear suspension, top mounts and drop links (I got one side out, but the other didn't want to move). Replaced the front discs, but then that took 10x longer than it should, because (I estimated using my trusty torque wrench) that the callipers had been tightened to 130 lb/ft and clearly, it's awkward trying to get a breaker bar in. WTF. Next week, Stu replaces his Steering UJ, bumper clips, manifold gasket and exhaust springs. This car was supposed to just need a little tickle 🤣 Oh and the JODB reader I bought for the ECU doesn't work. So I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board (anyone have a JODB reader near Milton Keynes?). EML came on last Sunday, but went out when I restarted the car. I'm guessing this might be the benefit of having a dual-ECU, but not if I can't actually read the fault (it's not piggy back, but one ECU drives the cars systems - locking, alarm. immobiliser etc., the other the engine). outlaw118 and mercedade
