I wonder what a 5-speed 1.3 would be like? I was looking at a Ledbury Maestro from a while back with that combination.

They're very capable with the five-speed. I've had a hatch and a van so-equipped.

Mine's probably a little more... bedded in... than the one you drove.

That's very true! This one had 27k miles.

It's a bit odd they even offered a four speed really, the five speed is just as capable around town so you'd think it would have saved them money and hassle to just fit them all with a five speed rather than penny pinching for base models.

Christ on a bike man! Those look far too good to be thrown out, especially the Hillman Hunter. Its normally missing the bits, mine is. Please post this in the Shite in Minature thread!!

May I call dibs on them should you wish to move them on?

I must confess I spent five mins there checking the prices of them all on eBay. I just wanted to make sure one of them wasn’t a limited run by Faberge or something. I reckon if I’d sold them all individually I’d maybe get £100 with a bit of luck. Edit: there is a Range Rover fire service as well not pictured .

@Split_Pin I’m happy to pass them on to you if you’d get enjoyment from them. Send me your address and I’ll drop them off some time.

An elderly gentleman in the next village used to own a silver one. It looked OK from a distance, but close up looked like hammered pewter! Have they dressed that DB6 up to look more 'found' in the photographs? I'm thinking spray on cobwebs & a bucket of lightly toasted rusty bits.

Nothing's been done to it since it arrived here, but I don't know about before. It looks genuinely tatty. Presumably the owener was away shooting tigers for a few years?

I surmise that the garage it was laid-up in was pretty feckin' damp, so just about everything needs replacing now.

Wouldn't mind a read of The Observer, though. I remember reading that on Sundays in the 1980s, as my parents liked the fact that it didn't have many supplements apart from the magazine (which was also worth reading back then and had the Peanuts comic strip in it), so there wasn't much of it left unread.

Think my school also had a visit from the Soviet Ambassador or one of his staff in 1988. There was a lot of interest in Gorbachev and we mostly thought the Soviet Union was going to be there long-term; how wrong we turned out to be!

I see a mention there on the front page of (Yitzhak) Shamir turning down a meeting with Arafat - this was at a time when the PLO's position was intransigent and the Israelis equally bloody-minded; Hafez Assad was still in charge in Syria, whilst Saddam Hussein had been busy poisoning the Kurds in northern Iraq earlier in the year; he didn't invade Kuwait until much later. Lebanon was a wasteland (it still is) and somewhere in Beirut, Terry Waite was a hostage along with Brian Keenan and John McCarthy.

Memories of all the old certainties.

I don’t understand the appeal of these at all. Dated, heavy, wobbly and fragile is how they were spoken of for years.
What happened that they are now so desirable?

About 2 years ago  my Focus had a full service at a fairly reputable indy that seems to serve the entire town. For reasons that escape me precisely they weren't able to replace the cabin filter, something to do with not being able to undo a bolt or something and "running out of time". Anyway, I completely forgot to get it sorted (whoops!). About a month ago I started to get tell-tale signs that the filter definitely needed replacing now. So, set about having a go at least to replace it. 3 hours, some lost skin, a continuous argument with the fuse box and wiring loom, we managed to relieve the original from it's dusty lair. Fortunately it went back far easier than expected.

Grin 2: moved to  a new town last July and still exploring bits of it on semi-mandated walks. Found a street that would put a smile on a lot of our faces, house 1 had about 4 bits of 80s-2010s Americana. Two doors down there's a driveway with 3 C3 Pluriels and then 2 doors down from there was a nest of Imps, Stilettos, Huskys and other derivaties. I'd seen 1 of them around town a couple of times, so nice to find their lair.

Just taken the MGB into the local MG specialist for a service and good look over. The guy was pretty complementary on it, but that might be because I tend to talk it down in condition when actually it's pretty good really.

Will be interesting to see how they get on and if they're any good. Would be useful to have a local MG specialist I can throw it at to fix up any niggling issues. They only really do MGA/MGB/MGC/Midgets/etc which is a shame as I would like someone I can trust on for the Dolomite whenever it's done. There is a local classic Mini specialist nearby though and the chap said he's shit hot on them. Those guys also have a rolling road and will tune up the carbs too. Might have to pay them a visit.

Car itself was ok. Had to nip up the banjo bolt again on the fuel pump, brakes were pulsing but that I think is where it's been sitting has left material on the discs and it needs a ruddy good clean. Oh the horn doesn't work and the indicators have gone stiff and sticky.

I've got a replacement radiator and water pump from Moss. Not terribly impressed with the radiator quality to be honest. I do think I might get the rad recored.

Definitely made me realise that I do like 60/70s BL/BMC chod the most and despite it being a good car, the 520i isn't me.

Just liberated these from the dump in Denny. Couldn’t bring myself to take a photo of all the others in the metal recycling.

Well done, Sir. My cousin had the "Man from U.N.C.L.E." car; shouldn't it have a periscope thing you press down and the people in the car pop out alternately with their guns?

One of our neighbours houses is a holiday let.  The couple in it have had no fewer than six visiting couples staying at least one night.  All in their sixties, all parking in stupid places blocking everyone else (I had to help a neighbour to carry his ladders over the top of a golf to his van yesterday).
