Austat
Had a nice evening stroll today and got chatting with the owner of a '74 Citroen DS Safari which he's had for 40 years. Interesting bloke, he said he previously had a '63 Mini at one point and that he once drove a Citroen Light 15 through Uganda a few years back. Split_Pin
Had a message from the garage. He's unhappy that there's more than 3 holes in the Cavalier. Towbar was hiding a lot. Almost like I purposely lied to him. Not heard back about whether he can do anything with it.

The purple, rotten in progress 1100 had to go because of the "clutter" on the drive it caused was affecting viewings. I still regret not being in a position to have bought your GT6. Those now seem to have sailed away from me price wise. Hopefully should sell quite quickly, like you say its a bit mental the housing market at the moment. However there's naff all for sale if it does. There's only one house we like and if that goes its back to square one unless something else comes to the market. Not heard anything of the GT6 yet. Not sure what the lads plans were. His mate had a MGB with a diseasel engine from a montego in it so it could be interesting.

artdjones
The nice thing about the Mini in question is that it looks completely standard, and is in a good colour outside and in. Obviously, whoever buys it can do what they like, but it may end up turned into a Cooper S replica with all its history obliterated if it is sold. I've only had one Mini, also a 1000 , but in Citron, bought off my brother sans MoT for £30 and sold to a friend of his, with an MoT about 6 months later for £175. That was in 1988. MikeR
Next time I will believe/double check the google sat nav hints it told me about the M6 north bound pile up near Jtn 26 ,here is a new route , which I ignored .... I was south bound , then I saw the q to get off at my junction !!!!!, it was .. interesting but all was not lost , thanks to my memory used the outside lane after the slip road to get to the M58 and overtook hundreds of cars/vans/trucks trying to go south on the M6. juular
@Split_Pin That really does look trivial. If he was feeling particularly lazy he could have cut up a bit of 2mm angle iron and glued it on. That was in 1988. it nearly got "cooperised"! i bought it off a young lad, Ryan, who bought it in 2011. he paid a whopping £450, i think for it, running with an MOT. the body was good save the 2 doors, which were pretty poor. he then spent the next 2 or 3 years buying "cobra" seats and daft wheels for it, the roof painted white before his father said to him "no, leave the car as it is, there aren't any unmolested ones left...." and so it got the roof repainted, the the door bottoms replaced and painted and then- and then Ryan discovered drinking in pubs and dancing with girls, and the car was abandoned in its shed until i got it in December 2017. when i put the car back together the look i was after was how a mini looked like back in the late 1970sand 1980s, when they were just common second cars and general runabouts, so the steel wheels stayed, with early version full hubcaps, as did the big steering wheel, and the original seats. the carpet isn't upto much, i put it in, and next time i'm going to pay someone who knows what they are doing to fit it! getting a maroon carpet was hard enough, i found that while it was trimmed to fit there were no holes for the likes of the gearstick and the like. i had to cut them out! the seats are pretty good, especially for 47 year old vinyl, save the top of the back seat which is jiggered, hence the blanket over the seat back. and the dash trim has been in and put, in and out, so its not like some cars where those bits are like new. but, it all falls into the look i was after, that of a loved mini when they were common second cars like i remember from the olden dayz! chaseracer, crad, Angrydicky and 2 others

Bren
I dropped the oil on the 545 in record time - it was getting dark. 10 L mannol 5/30 and a mahle filter cost me £45. barefoot
A surprise parcel dropped through my letterbox this morning, a fresh off the press copy of my new book. If you've ever thought of cooking or even trying to exist in a campervan, here's the funniest and yet most practical guide that you'll find anywhere. There's no mention of eating moss or shitting in trenches, but there's a bit about snorting vodka & a guide to tenderising meat using a couple of chopping boards & the back axle of a Volkswagen. Buy it from https://veloce.co.uk/store/Cool-Recipes-&-Camping-Hacks-for-VW-Campers-p290771667 or the ubiquitous Amazon mercedade, chadders, HillmanImp and 18 others

Jazoli
Finished work yesterday at 3 and by 4,30 I'd given the new fleet addition a full service with oil/filters/brake fluid/coolant etc, the oil was like water and I don't think the car has been touched in 5 years if I'm honest, the pollen filter was the original 14 year old one and blocked solid, I also gave the A/C a topup , it wasn't fully empty just a little low on gas. Today I spent all day (and I mean all day, started at 8am and just finished) redoing the underseal and rustproofing , it wasn't bad underneath but the subframes were a bit crusty, I also removed the silver paint off the rear spoiler (why?) with a bit of acetone and some furious rubbing, and painted the calipers silver as they had been done red by the muppet previous owner (along with half the wheels and the suspension), I also wet sanded the headlights as they were yellow, I should have taken some pics as the difference is staggering. I'm knackered now, I'm getting too old for this, now I just have to clean it, which is going to take days, its in really good condition under all the dirt, I've ordered some new buttons for the AC controls, a gearshift gaiter, some new badges and some wipers, once they arrive I'll get them fitted then its good to go, then its decision time on the golf. The only time I tried working out the mpg on mine it came out at bang on 12. This was when I took it from here in Southampton to RM60 in Finsbury Park. Bearing in mind the bus has neither a fuel gauge or odometer it's wasn't that simple. No motorways were used, A33 and A30 up to West London, then straight through the middle. So I brimmed it at the start and finish. The mileage to London I knew because the A roads run parallel to the M3. The mileage within London was done with a London AtoZ and a good old fashioned bit of string. You can see why I only did it once! It made me laugh when TfL were pleased to announce that they were getting 8 mpg out of their lovely new Boris buses. That's progress. dozeydustman and LightBulbFun

Bear in mind a this little DAF 12 tonner does about 8-9mpg while on a round. The Mercs do about 3mpg
