Yeah, it's always been a main dealer of tat 🤣, their secondhand cars were even worse, my ex (MGW) bought an early Hyundai Scoupe, you could see metal filings in the oil, after a PDI service and the oil was black as fk and about 3 inches too far up the dipstick. That went straight back😞

MGW=Money grabbing wh...

I always think selling new MGs as a garage is the last chance saloon before you end up a bombsite trader.

Unlike this poor bugger

A mechanic i used to know told me story of someone they knew who worked underneath xantia's by just setting the suspension on high!

One of them lost pressure whilst he was underneath with predictable results ☠

I heard about a friend of a relative who was using a big long reach jack to work under the car, no stands needless to say, he was sat up, the jack went and it folded him in half killing him. I don’t know why people go in for half arsed short cuts like that.

Recently I got asked to lend out a jack, I offered to lend some stands as well, he goes ‘no it’s ok the guys a mechanic he knows what he’s doing’. A dead mechanic at some point then.

I spent a bit of time on this today. It belongs to a friend and is actually used by his wife in the way Land Rovers always have been. I put on a new track rod to replace a slightly bent one. He'd also supplied a new drag link, but when I looked there was nothing wrong with the old one. Whoever fitted it had put a plain but on instead of a castellated one and it had worked loose because the split pin hole was a couple of threads above the top of the nut. New castellated nut and a split pin sorted that, then a quick track and a tidy of some of the underbonnet wiring left it ready to be picked up.

Those balloon tyres don't help the driving experience.

Still zero progress by the garage on my Cavalier. 3 weeks tomorrow since I dropped it off. Feels like its been there since the bloody  stone age.

Its fucking lamentable.

I want it back home so I can fix the emissions myself. I don't really want to drive it though as there will be no booked MOT. Been quoted £90 by Shiply to get it from Bo'ness  to Bonnybridge which whilst a sore one, is necessary.

I'm wondering if the timing is out which would be a simple fix and it needs a belt anyway.

Just need to find a place that can weld it and not keep it into the next millennium.

My emergency stop nearly caused a traffic incident  as I spotted this in the wilds of North London today.

Completely immaculate, in aubergine with red leather. Yum.

It begs my (repeated) question.

If available, why would you NOT opt for purple.  Why aren't all cars purple?  Jesus that looks glorious - but I know this for a fact: in white/green/whatever I wouldn't look twice.

Recently acquired a learning experience.  It heralds from 1947 or thereabouts and is destined for the Lanchester.  It's an Ekco CR32 car radio and it looks like this inside.

Wow! Great project! Valves.. I'm sure you know but be careful with the voltages from those bad boys.

I have it on good authority from @BeEP that the colour combo we're looking at here translated into correct British Leyland is "Black Tulip with Geranium Leather". Even more glorious upon knowing that!

This evening I got drenched with petrol at the local Tescos. Pump cut out once, I pulled the trigger again and it continued chugging away merrily. 5 seconds later, as I turned back towards the car, it violently spewed about a pint of juice out of the filler neck. Truly bizarre, I don't think I've ever had that happen before in any vehicle - I've only ever managed to overflow by applying the faintest pressure after it's cut out about 5 times in a row.

Anyway, 3 hours and several washes later, my hand still reeks of it. FFS.

These things get rid of petrol smell on your hands.  I have no idea how, they just do.  Not as effective on diesel.

I shall seek one out in readiness for the next fill-up, cheers.

I'd assumed that the tank was full (didn't check) , but on my way to work this morning the gauge was showing around 85% 🤨 I must have really weird airlock issues in the filler neck.

I only got to work on the Land Rover above because all the specialists were booked out for weeks. It seems impossible to get anything done at present.

A new game around here!

I have lived around Buckingham for over 30 years and travelled every road, I have a pretty good idea of local navigation without satnav/map. Today I decided a small shop was in order and I like a Coop that is 10 miles and went for that.

It felt like some sort of computer game where the A421 and many local roads are closed at random and my task was to outwit the game master. I did win and get to my target shop without google live. This is all because of rail work for the East-West link and HS2

In case you are wondering my go to car is still the Beetle.

Id have preferred  it if they just told me they were too busy.

Surely a bit of welding and emissions on an old 8v Cavalier isn't specialist though!

Car washing weather. 6 months of lockdown filth is gone.

Was there ever a worse paint choice than metallic black? Shows every tiny scratch, water-mark, dent and polishing only makes it look even worse.
Must remember to blob some black Dynax on the paint chips and that giffer-scrape...

There's no adhesive.

They're designed to cling to the interior glass, facing out. I'm pretty sure they'll just blow off if place on the outside man.

Believe me I prodded and scraped etc and went on a journey and wash-wiped the rear windscreen and generally gave it a good seeing to and it's very reluctant to peel off...

Whatever the clingy magic is its working on the other side just fine so far.

It was either that or have it completely obscured by the tint.
