Ghosty
Found a job ad locally for a garage assistant in a used car dealer. Valeting, photos, taking cars to MOT, etc. Applied, natch. (For those that don't know I had to quit my job due to long term issues being paid in a timely manner, and in full). One of them lost pressure whilst he was underneath with predictable results ☠ I heard about a friend of a relative who was using a big long reach jack to work under the car, no stands needless to say, he was sat up, the jack went and it folded him in half killing him. I don’t know why people go in for half arsed short cuts like that. Recently I got asked to lend out a jack, I offered to lend some stands as well, he goes ‘no it’s ok the guys a mechanic he knows what he’s doing’. A dead mechanic at some point then. davehedgehog31

artdjones
I spent a bit of time on this today. It belongs to a friend and is actually used by his wife in the way Land Rovers always have been. I put on a new track rod to replace a slightly bent one. He'd also supplied a new drag link, but when I looked there was nothing wrong with the old one. Whoever fitted it had put a plain but on instead of a castellated one and it had worked loose because the split pin hole was a couple of threads above the top of the nut. New castellated nut and a split pin sorted that, then a quick track and a tidy of some of the underbonnet wiring left it ready to be picked up. Those balloon tyres don't help the driving experience. Split_Pin
Still zero progress by the garage on my Cavalier. 3 weeks tomorrow since I dropped it off. Feels like its been there since the bloody stone age. Its fucking lamentable. I want it back home so I can fix the emissions myself. I don't really want to drive it though as there will be no booked MOT. Been quoted £90 by Shiply to get it from Bo'ness to Bonnybridge which whilst a sore one, is necessary. I'm wondering if the timing is out which would be a simple fix and it needs a belt anyway. Just need to find a place that can weld it and not keep it into the next millennium. Pump cut out once, I pulled the trigger again and it continued chugging away merrily. 5 seconds later, as I turned back towards the car, it violently spewed about a pint of juice out of the filler neck. Truly bizarre, I don't think I've ever had that happen before in any vehicle - I've only ever managed to overflow by applying the faintest pressure after it's cut out about 5 times in a row. Anyway, 3 hours and several washes later, my hand still reeks of it. FFS. These things get rid of petrol smell on your hands. I have no idea how, they just do. Not as effective on diesel. I'd assumed that the tank was full (didn't check) , but on my way to work this morning the gauge was showing around 85% 🤨 I must have really weird airlock issues in the filler neck. Six-cylinder
A new game around here! I have lived around Buckingham for over 30 years and travelled every road, I have a pretty good idea of local navigation without satnav/map. Today I decided a small shop was in order and I like a Coop that is 10 miles and went for that. It felt like some sort of computer game where the A421 and many local roads are closed at random and my task was to outwit the game master. I did win and get to my target shop without google live. This is all because of rail work for the East-West link and HS2 In case you are wondering my go to car is still the Beetle. Asimo
Car washing weather. 6 months of lockdown filth is gone. Was there ever a worse paint choice than metallic black? Shows every tiny scratch, water-mark, dent and polishing only makes it look even worse. Must remember to blob some black Dynax on the paint chips and that giffer-scrape...
