Just weighing up another little Yamaha 50 I found for sale. Did the on line MOT history checker and...

'Mileage75,666 miles'

It isn't an error, either.

Did I tell you about a bloke in my village? He’d seen photos of the Base online but clicked I lived here when one of the pics went viral online. He walked past the other week and introduced himself and we stood - 2m apart - and talked cars for about an hour. Anyway, he told me he was after buying one of these and so went and bought one!

He came around earlier and let me take it for a spin whilst he waited on.

My. Fucking. God. What a glorious thing. I would say it sounded nicer than any six cylinder I’d ever driven. A real offbeat, syncopated warble.

It’s done 60,000 miles - is better than any car I’ve owned in 15 years - and I want it very much.

They’re much more comfortable than you’d anticipate and it’s a little flying machine.  Very, very jealous.

You don't need to tell me!

Although I have only driven a couple of C3's, I had five C2's, the four cylinder 100L was nice, the 100CD five pot was great, but the turbocharged 200T was in another league. The wuffle from the engine was like something from a different planet. Mine were three speed autos which did a very definate 60/90/120 in the gears and although I never took it above 100mph - because licence, the acceleration at any speed above about 30mph was absolutely mind bending & made my subsequent 944S feel like a fucking slug.

Liked for the fact that you’ve bought a 505, but Jesus wept what have they done to it?

Are you going to be able to detwatify it?

At least the interior looks reasonable, apart from the MASSIVE KNOB (how apt).

Blame Slater on Retro Rides for its appearance, it did actually look a lot fucking worse believe it or not...

Thankfully most of the bits to put it back to standard are with it apart from it's original wheels and suspension.

I'm not sure I'll get it to look like this again but I will bloody well try.

Wow, not seen that car for years. Must have been a good decade ago it was on RR? Where's it been in the meantime? I assumed it was long dead, but the top half looks pretty solid at a glance.

Edit- I see I commented on the blue in 2019 that I'd spotted it on ebay. Also noted that the OP bought it in 2007... time flies.

At 30mph, that is flat out for 15 weeks.

I don't know why I bothered working that out. God I'm bored.

In restricted Yamaha 50 terms that was probably a trip to the local Co-op and back.

Finally got my arse into gear and dragged an old Volvo shell off for scrap today. This freed up a space at home for the Visa which had been living on the in-laws drive for the past few months. The body is now pretty much rot free but it still doesn’t run! I think it needs an ignition computer but who knows.

Shiters may remember the towing dolly I was prattling on about a few months ago and I made good use of it today. It takes 5 mins to load up a car and tows lovely.

We used to use a narrower one, was ok if the car could be driven up.

I had a DT50 when I was 16, did 25 miles a day on it, most of them in a 60 zone with my head down on the tank, after a number of tweaks it would top out a 42 (mate had one that would do 48) mine needed the head rebuilding every couple of thousand miles.. (but a weeks worth of riding for £1.70 - Happy days

Nice purchase with the 505. They must have severely limited What was originally generous wheel travel on these  otherwise those arch extensions would soon have been ripped off. Your ride your way etc but kudos for aiming to get it nearer to standard

Five cylinders are the best. Here's my 100, very similar to that on a bit of a ahem "spirited" drive.

Like I said in Facebook, I'm not a massive RR fan but I did always like the look of the Pug. It just kind of worked, like a triple fried egg with chilli sauce and chutney sandwich.

All the ingredients are wrong.

The wheels

The arches

The paint job

But put them together and it works.

This 505 is you Lister, its you.

I've had a couple of C3s - a 2-litre saloon and a 2.2 Quattro Avant - and they do sound amazing.  Quite different to the Volvo or Fiat inline 5s - more of an offbeat snarl than a mellow warble.  The Quattro went like f*ck too - I'd definitely have another of those.

A bit like yellow cars, it's the pity there's not more 5 cylinder engines around of any manufacturer. For a family car you can have pretty unique sound like no big standard 4 pot.

I've had three, four and six cylinder, I definitely want to live with a five before long!

Well rescued and good luck getting it back to standard. Some people shouldn't be allowed nice things🙁

Given these are worth a reasonable amount now, the closer to stock it is, the wider the potential market there is for it. Thus more potential for higher value and thus profit.

Thought I'd resurrect the XJ40 this weekend as the weather is good. The old misfire under load is back so I tried cleaning various things, checked maf and Tps and all seems ok. Stripped the intake out and cleaned everything and nothing was untoward.

Took it a waft to the local petrol station and it is ok until it warms up, it started hesitating worse as I got close. Pulled in, fuelled up and went to drive away and it'll not run at all. I've nursed it to a lay by.

It feels a lot like it did when the crank sensor failed, however it's a new one that's on there. Although, I did have it off when fitting an Andy bracket(revised crank sensor bracket) late last year and it hasn't been driven since.

At least it's a nice place to be broken downIMG-20210221-WA0010.thumb.jpeg.c4b8a2a9c44b88d2f295facf5765aa82.jpeg

Currently sitting with the crank sensor off it while I let it cool off to see if that helps. It was a cheap one so that might be the problem

Usual thing, presumably it's a OEM sensor or one of known decent quality?

How is the fuel pump relay? Might be worth giving it a feel to see if it's hot.

Iirc you've changed the fuel pump out on this already too?

Does sound like it's struggling or getting incorrect fuelling.
