As everyone seems to be buying Clio sports, I thought I would dig out my Clio 182 and put it on the road. It's been shielding in my garage for the last six months.

While it's been parked I have added another earth to each rear cluster to stop it lighting my dash up everything I brake, fitted a new o/s drive shaft, even  autodoc supplied to correct part.

Fitted a new temp sender and adjusted the brake switch to cure my abs fault.

Drove ten yards

Maybe I didn't fix the abs problem. Typical Clio ownership experience.🥳

Has the battery been disconnected? I don't know with the Clio but usually you need to put the steering from lock to lock for recalibrating the steering angle end stops after reconnecting the battery.

Yeah the battery has been disconnected, but it's always done since I've had it, always seems to behave mot time.

It doesn't throw any codes up so I was thinking it was the brake switch pedal out of adjustment, as I've read the when you brake the abs realises there is a increase in pressure in the system, but if the brake light switch isn't activated it throws up the abs light. So needs to be adjusted properly.

It's possible to trigger the light without even driving the car just by keeping foot on the brake.

I don't know if the lock to lock will do anything with this as I ripped out the shite Pas system for epas.

Meh, bigger losses at Culloden as me maw says...

Glad it's still alive though. Wonder if is still a 2 key job to start it?!

...and stop it again!

That, plus the non-existent driver's door check strap, random cutting out in neutral, and general scabbiness of it plus having a tidy 316i become available made me offload it.

I also remember the driver's side window regulator was cracked (as in the metal itself was cracked), and being a coupe meant it dropped and lifted the window every time you opened the door. This meant it made a rather sphincter-clenching BANG every time I opened the door. I tried replacing the regulator but it was held in with the world's strongest rivets. A hardened drill bit didn't even make a dent!

I still want another straight-6 in my life though. The noise that 320i made on full-chat was addictive. I also went the fastest I've ever driven a car in that one.

Today I've been pestered by a memory of an advert from probably the early 90s.  Couple keep taking their car back to the dealership to find the source of a squeak in their new car.  Ends up being the woman's earring.  My brain is telling me it was for the Mk3 Vauxhall Cavalier... or maybe the Mk2 Volkswagen Golf.  Definitely a manufacturer beginning with V.  It's really bugging me at any rate, anyone else remember the advert and maybe have a link to it?

Why would you want to advertise that your car came from Slough? Could have picked the (what was) the most prestigious rover dealer! Mayfair Park Royal or something!

(I am only joking, I do understand. I'm lucky in that my xsara original plates and dealer decal on the tailgate are in tip top condition)

That's a really weird looking registration, it's the OUO that's doing it, makes it look like it's a weird letter/number format.  Subtle removal of the fixing bolts is a nice touch.

Oh, two. Oh - you. Oh! Why not bolt it - surely more original?

Talking to my parents just now. Dad has mentioned a spanner in the works of the fiat’s Mot next month. Our friendly reliable old car and bike mot place is in Weston Rhyn, Shropshire ( by half a mile) and they are in wrexham, wales and not allowed to leave. Hmm. I’ve not even seen the car since February! But brakes, tyres clutch and exhaust were fine then.

Ask the garage to collect and deliver?

It’s a one man band. It was next door to the Citroen specialist we used since I got my 2cv in 1993! Has motd the fiat since I’ve had it. The alternative is box lane mot which is about 500m from the parent’s house and been there since the 1950s so should be familiar with older cars. It doesn’t need a service - it’s done 20miles this year!

I remember it well. Mk2 golf. If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen. The garagiste had very noisy stubble if memory serves

And that man is @RobT for both ownership of a mk2 gti and ESP for interior noises.

@vulgalour I remember it as it as on a family video recording of Christmas Day Screening of return of the Jedi on Itv- about 1989

slightly less relevant were these adverts on the recording too (we only had about 2 memorex blank tapes so watched it a lot and hence lodged in the memory....)

LoLz!

Oak green big bumpered 3 door.  The most unreliable car I've ever owned.  But I was also fussy in those days and wanted it perfect.  Nowadays I'll drive any old shit.

That's the mg6 dropped off for its mot. It's only done 4000 miles since the last test, but that was done by stoneacre mg before I bought it, so Christ only knows what will happen.

If you're anywhere near Oldham and hear a strange, high pitched wailing in the next hour or so, it's just my wallet howling in misery!

Failed on the front drivers wishbone- the one part that you need to sell a kidney for.

£219 for the wishbone and 3 hours labour because the front subframe has to be dropped to get to the mounts. Fucksticks.

I had that on the merc, and now the other side needs doing- it was £900 at the main dealer. All because the little ball joint is integral to the arm on the 320.

Anyone fancy taking this on? It's the ex-clayts and Moog Rover 820.  Ideally needs two new rear calipers in order to sort out the lack of handbrake.  Or you could try a refurb of the current ones.  Other time and money commitments (or rather lack of both) means I'm struggling to justify the expense.  Best I can find is two separate eBay listings, totalling £138 for the pair.

I tried a session on them today, but bolts are seized and look very rusty, so I couldn't be arsed with a war on brakes.  Had enough of that with the Morris.  To add to the fun, the handbrake lever button has shrunk in on itself.  Must be the cold...

MoT is due 16th December.  Might need a thud from the rear looking at (could just be exhaust fouling) but apart from that 'should pass no problem m8' cliche applies. Lovely car overall.  If there's no interest I'll just pucker up and get it sorted.

£275 would be nice.  Cheers!

OS offending caliper.  No pic of the other.
