Might even turn a nice profit if it's otherwise OK. Jamie
dozeydustman
I passed my second Hiab test. I am now licensed for Clamshell buckets up to 20t/m using remote controls. Work hasn't got the necessary paperwork and personnel in place (yet) to officially use it on the road, so until then I'll keep my hand in by playing with it in the yard. Plus it's 4 months old and our instructor has found faults with it, so FASSI need to come and remedy their crane.. mitsisigma01, phil_lihp, Rusty_Rocket and 7 others
clayts450
Streetshite road legal for another year. Work all done by local indie, first time I've used them - very impressed. One of the co-owners did all the work and talked me through it. And he happily used the CV boots/hubnuts I supplied. I shall use them again. He did say that the CV boots were a complete bastard, and there was no way I could have done it at home - my gut feeling paid off. Sold the clio off here to my mate with the BMW specialist (again) for another courtesy car. I never make owt on anything 😂 it's too much of an arse ache of a job for me so I'll just get him to do it. clayts450
In other news, whilst I was waiting on the Streetwise getting fixed, I thought I'd sort out* one of those annoying jobs on the coupe. The bonnet release. It opens fine, but the secondary catch sticks and doesn't pop back down when the bonnet is lifted, so the bonnet remains on the secondary catch rather than fully closed when you shut it. The mechanism was full of gunk (and, bizarrely, moss) so took it all off and cleaned it all out, lubed where appropriate and put it back together. I also took the liberty of detaching the bonnet alarm sensor, which can cause the alarm to go off when the battery is low. This is recommended in Accord Coupe owner circles ! Anyroad, did the secondary catch now pop back down ? Did it bollox. Luckily there is a workround, involving the prodigious poke of a finger on the mechanism, which I'll have to show the MoT tester. Previously it required a stab with a screwdriver, so that's an improvement, I guess. Looks like the cable has stretched, so that'll need replacing, assuming the cable isn't unobtainium. omegod
Bit of a worry this morning, bought car via ebay and arranged a pick up via shiply, paid the seller direct via a bank transfer which my bank flagged up as something being a bit fishy but I went ahead anyway ........ message received from ebay this morning to say sellers account has been suspended due to dodgy activity but not to worry as I hadn't paid for the car yet I couldn't get an answer from the seller so thought I'd been stung Fortunately the transporter arrived with it this afternoon, I asked him if the seller seemed dodgy, he said he didn't meet the seller personally as he texted he'd left the car in a field with the keys in! 17-Coffees
Got annoyed of fuckwits while trying to sell the Astra. Getting offered £100 or less and I just know that if I said yes they'd try haggle down more as no doubt never read the ad. So decided to just scrap it for £100. No hassle and free uplift. Sorted. I was happy to take £100 from friends and fellow Shiters, but chancers and fuckwits can get in the sea. Cavcraft
True to his word, the vendor of the Sierra gave me the spare key(s) today and also the bonus of a Haynes manual. He has a low mileage Puma 1.7 next to his forecourt now, a mate's car he says. In an ordinary world I'd snatch it up, but it's too much money for a notorious mingebag, sadly. In boring news it was time to lob some fuel into the Merc today, after it had a £5 wash and dry yesterday... It's abso-fucking-lutely amazing to drive, found the multi-changer last night so whanged in an old 'Clubland' CD in this morning, cranked the volume up to the max and enjoyed some 'Blow My Whistle Baby' etc. Also managed to smoke a Transit off at the lights, which obvs isn't much to shout about, but by God it does these things in style. dome, Six-cylinder, Fat_Pirate and 11 others
N19
Mondeo behaved, mostly. Although I completely forgot about changing the bulb so embarrassingly have a failure for that on the sheet first. In further good news, a new bumper was waiting for me at home... Not sure what it'll look like rattlecanned. Can't be worse than the gaffer tape? Hmm, actually, the primer it's delivered in is dark grey. Wonder if it'll be ok to just chuck it on without putting a topcoat on... or does fibreglass need a topcoat? Vince70
I thought it would be a good idea to fit a new dashtop this week to my Dads cheap Bini as it was all that was spoiling an otherwise perfect car and while I had the dash apart I thought I might as well repair the Rev counter. catsinthewelder
Urrrggghhh flipping cars! Been using the poorly 405 as the Focus is at the garage. Called by the motor factors earlier and got a load of power steering fluid. Checked the bottle I had was full too so that'll be enough to change it tomorrow. Called by work to try and borrow the ramps and ended up taking a Suzuki off them and putting a Renault on, that will be a no then. Got home to find the fluid had leaked but only a little and all on the rubber mat. Stupidity saw me wash it in the bath so just wait for the grump tomorrow when I slip over in the shower. Girls have scouts tonight so I thought I'd call by and see a mate. Stopped at the garage to get biscuits and the car won't start when I got back. Jogged into town and borrowed the just fixed Suzuki from work, dropped off girls went back for jump leads, back up to the garage and started 405, dropped that at work and walked back up. Fetched Suzuki, just dropped off leads and now it's time to pick the girl's up. Going to sleep well tonight 😂 Floatylight, BL Bloke, Six-cylinder and 5 others

xtriple
I am going to sunny Ivybridge to have a look at a car. It is a 'nice' car... possibly. It is an expensive car though and more than I can afford, haggling skills need a brush up Also, some twat has biffed the passenger door mirror on the SuLK and while the cover is still fine, the glass is doing a fine impression of mosaic. New mirror glass is only a tenner and looks to be a doddle to change, just brute force and ignorance, at least one of those I have in abundance. I am however, niggled! N19
Went up to the motorfactors this morning to pick up a few bits and pieces. This is one of the van hire fleet - a glut of smileyface transits are still used amongst the modern ones, which I think is suitably autoshite. wuvvum, Steviemillar, Vantman and 18 others

catsinthewelder
How on earth is a 22 year old self drive Transit still looking smart? In between changing the PAS fluid on the 405 I've been helping the boss hammer a 1 year old Boxer back into something approximating the right shape so we could refit the plastic trim. The 405 seemed happy for a fluid change so I handed back the Suzuki with a new chip on the screen from the journey into town and drove the 405 home where is spat another auxiliary belt off just before arriving. Stanky
My block & tackle overhead ladder storage solution is complete. I'm pretty pleased with it. It's a silver line 180kg rated b&t with carabiniers holding the ladder and screwed into the roof trusses. It's now tied off to the wall above the tumble dryer but keeps the bug and bulky, but very useful 10m ladder out of the way neatly Raises and lowers it all very easily when required and hasn't yet collapsed on me and broken my neck Twiggy, N19 and BorniteIdentity
