I did a job today, new boot lid seal for the Zodiac. It turned out to be a more difficult job than I’d anticipated as the seal is glued to the boot lid and I got more of the glue on myself than the to items that needed bonding together, I spent a considerable time trying to scrub my hands clean to not much avail!

Mini collecktshun report.
Bagged the MGF today. Borrowed the beavertail and managed to get it back to the workshop. It’s a ropey piece of shiiiiiite but kind of endearing at the same time. Had a short spin in it and it’s no where near as bad as I was expecting.
It also has leather, which is a bonus and while there’s a bit of tidying there’s nothing (besides the OMGFHGF) alarming.
The seller was simply an unpleasant chap to deal with, I guess that’s what owning an MGF does to a man.. He decided to keep the stereo because of being a cock and was decidedly unhelpful regarding the collection.
There now follows a series of pictures. Because we like pictures.

I was feeling a bit glum today so thought I'd cheer myself up by taking the Megane off sorn. I'd planned to swap my Citroen over with the Megane so I could use it for going out for shopping and stuff but the Citroen's too fat to get in the garage. I did get to take it for a drive though for the first time in 3 months and it still drives great (for a megane with 200,000 miles on it). I'll get it up to the house at the weekend and give it a good clean.

You might have mentioned it before but how comfy is it and what's it like inside? I did like my 172 but I never really gelled with it for long as it was too raw and loud plus staring at the crappy dash always annoyed me. But it did go well and I miss a fast Renault in my life. Perhaps one of these is a bit more 'grown up'? It certainly looks good.

The interior is still pretty crappy. It's full of  cheap scratchy plastics and it's got the keycard and start button from the Laguna to add unreliability. The big positive to me is these have the alcantara wing backed recaro seats. I

I don't think the ride is too bad. It's hard but not overly so. There most noise is from interior squeaks but it has done 200k. This one has the limited slip diff so it feels a bit weird when you floor it but it has lots of grip.

It definitely sounds comfier than the 172 and a bit more civilized.  Shame about the plastics though, I'm fine with that on an older and basic car like a Megane MK1, but it weirdly bothers me on a newer one even although it's obviously not a non driving issue.

I'd still like to try one though as they seem great value. The LSD sounds like it would give me a bit of confidence as my 172 was a bit skittish in the wet.

I think the big difference with the megane is it's got more torque than the megane you don't need to wind it up to get it going. It feels properly rapid.

I'm not sure the normal 225's have the fancy Recaros.

Had to go out on an errand to pick up a new bed this morning.  Only 35° outside but wait, what’s that? 66% humidity and 45° realfeel? Ah well, i’ll cool off in the truck, a/c and ventilated seats ftw.

Bed loaded, cheery-bye, window up and away we go... No I said window up, not just make some whirring crunching noises.

Ah pissmittens.

I’m not sweating my bollocks off messing around with door cards in 40+ heat; off to the workshop it goes. Needs a service and its just started dropping oil too so might as well throw some money at it.

Had limited interest in the Merc so far - had a chap email who seemed quite interested but is up in Yorkshire and was trying to get a reasonable quote for transport.  Also had a call from a chap in Leicester who was prepared to buy it sight unseen, do a bank transfer and arrange for the car to be collected, but he'd only offer me £800, which really isn't enough.

It's a bit of an awkward time to be selling a non runner really, but I'm not in a tearing hurry for it to go - I'd rather wait for a better offer.  If someone offered me a bag for it I'd probably sell it, but with the amount of money, time and hassle it now owes me I don't think I'd take any less than that.

I'm trying to decide whether to have a "proper" go at selling the 164.  I keep wavering between the fact that I've owned it 16 years and really don't want to get rid, and the fact that I've done bugger all with it and it's deteriorating (albeit more slowly now that it's in the garage).  The sensible thing to do of course would be to spend 300 quid or so on getting the brakes sorted so it's drivable and then selling it as a runner, but if I get it drivable I know I won't want to sell it.

Oh that is an amazing colour. I'd love a 600 in that shade. They exist.

A while ago I mentioned that an MG TF was likely to be coming my way, well today it happened and I’m quite excited, unexpectedly so!

A neighbour bought it, repaired the HGF, cooked it again, dumped it on their drive and neglected it ever since. The young lad moved out and his old man was all for sending it across the bridge but we got talking. Knowing I was a keen collector of shite he explained the issues and I said how much I’d like a TF, at which point it became my problem.

The engine is noisy, but it still drives even though it consumed 2 litres of water on the short drive to the unit. Body work needs a polish and a rear dent sorting but a smart repair will suffice. It’s showing a genuine 54k and has a wedge of history and bills.

The engine needs to come out, I’m guessing it drops out on the subframe.
I could replace like for like, or some people have suggested installing a 1.8 turbo engine from a 75, any experience or recommendations welcome.
Once underway I will get a thread going, I’m quite looking forward to this one.

I'm looking forward to the reports too, looks a nice TF, being an 02 it's quite an early one.

I can't imagine the heat generated by a turbo faring particularly well in such a cramped engine bay with a cooling system which is already marginal...

An MG6 engine might be a better bet  than a 75 lump if you want to go down the Turbo route. Can’t believe i actually typed that but HERE WE ARE.

Add one of these

http://www.coolexperts.co.uk/product/rover-mgf-mgtf-race-quality-all-aluminium-radiator-british-made/

and the stainless front to rear coolant pipes.

Then run it with massive spacers in the engine lid hinges like all the dubbers did in the 90s.
