On my useless jaunt to Aylesbury, see Crusta, and back on the m/way I was not the oldest heap classic on the road.

I passed a C reg Mazda 929 coupe. Slowed down as I passed gave a thumbs up and got one back. Also a Honda Acty,

or similar, van on an N ,lowered, wheels and a nice paint job doing about 50 so had to slow right down, easy as very

little traffic, gave him a toot which was returned. A bit later I passed a Ferrari. I bet he's going to brag to his mates

how he got overtaken by a 32 year old van. Ha ha.

Took the V70 to Tesco this evening and nothing broke, so that's good.  Annoyingly it turns out the nearside CV joint is a little bit clicky on full lock as well - I couldn't previously hear it over the row from the offside.  I'm not sure I have the mental energy to tackle that job again - I don't think I'll bother with it, it's nowhere near as bad and the boot is intact so it won't be full of dust and grit like the other one was.

It's also decided that its tailgate is open all the time, so that's another thing to look at.  Bloody moderns.

The nearside CV joint on my Audi has clicked a little when pulling left out of  T junctions. It's never got any worse in the 15 months I've owned it and I can only hear it if the radio is off, so I have ignored it.  I presume the boot is fine as there was no mention of it on the recent a MOT.

SECOND VERSE, LAME AS THE FIRST:

Owing to the success of my last Mk3 operation, I was compelled to give my languishing estate car a nudge and see if I could wake it.

It’s shameful to admit that this is how it has spent the last 3 years, didn’t time used to fly.

I’m not surprised to report that a slack handful of jerry can sloshes, administered straight to the throat, and the battery from the GXL was all it took to coax it into action.

The depth of welding it requires has stabilised reassuringly but alas, hasn’t receded to quite the extent I had hoped.

That’s enough reality, here’s a misleadingly optimistic angle:

Blast from the past tonight via the local news:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/52690999

The spod who sold me my first car back in 1997 - a hand-painted lump of Isopon cunningly sculpted into the shape of a Mk5 Cortina - has just collected his 119th motoring conviction.

I'm quite sure, in retrospect, that the twat didn't have a licence at the point I bought it off him either; and the reason he was offloading his, ahem, pride and joy for £80 to a dopey 16 year old was that he'd just received a fine for having said Cortina parked on the public highway with no VED.

So he thought he'd punt it on to me, then give DVLNI my details and tell them he'd sold it to me aaaaages ago, so not guilty, yer honour.

Naturally, I was horrified to then receive a fine for a car which I'd never driven and was currently lying in bits in the garage... only I still had the classified ad I'd torn from the local paper. Which was dated three weeks after the offence had been recorded. And also gave the seller's name and address (he'd no phone), which happened to correspond with the same street in which the offence had been recorded...

I sent DVLNI back a photocopy of the ad, and funnily enough heard no more about it...

What do you even do with someone like that?

Jeeeezusss...

Makes your blood boil that someone with a squeaky clean record gets the book thrown at them for one transgression - which there was no actual evidence of - yet they get a slap on the wrist and told "don't do it again" essentially...

Not suspend the sentence?

Download an uber app on his phone ?

I've been watching OZaARK on Netflix.  So gunshot to the head?

You may be covered for the drains on house insurance, or not!

Sadly not.

Spoke to Aviva who said it would be covered under accidental damage - although I'm unsure what sort of accident would cause that, and I could only claim for subsidence if the house had been affected by it as well.

Remember that from shitefest Wales! Had a fabulous view of the front end in my rear view mirror for about 2 hours as we crawled past the fatal accident on the m40 past Gaydon! Then you opened it up (presumably to get it cool) when the traffic cleared and it sounded fantastic!

Ask me what I did the day before yesterday though... Not a clue!

Just reading your written rememberings brought a Morgan shaped smile to my face, a first rate trip out indeed, impossible to comprehend that was 2015.

If all goes to plan, another fine @worldofceri delivery is booked for Thursday. Bit nervous as it's an eBay win and I've not seen the car in person. The seller calls it a restoration job despite it looking not too bad in the photos.

Looking forward to updates! Sometimes that’s a ploy to avoid differences of opinion about condition - set the expectation level lower and it’s a winner. I was terrible for it on e bay- I think buyers were in the mind to bring a dustpan and brush to collect when I sold a car and left much happier.

Oh yes, we did see a Morgan or two didn't we! Which is strange as you never normally see one...

We saw so many of them I could have sworn somebody had licked my eye with an LSD coated tongue.

I spotted a bargain on Facebook marketplace and couldn't resist. The 90's wants it's wheels back.

Was sitting in the sunshine and wanted the umbrella out for a bit of shade. Unfortunately the table doesn't have a whole in it for the umbrella so had to improvise.

2 months since last started... will the 9000 start first time?

Of course it will!!!

Now moved safely onto the back garden to begin widening the drive...

Thus proving my hypothesis that the back garden makes perfect car parking...

Of course it’ll start! ‘Tis Swedish!

Funny you posted this, as I’ve just been out and done the same with my Volvo. Must be a good three months since it was last used but it fired right up. I might take it for a run round the block in the next few days.

I’ve been trying to beautify my old Volvo over the last couple of days and recently swapped the centre console and “space ball” gear lever from the donor Volvo S60 into my V70.

Turns out it’s a very easy swap to do and although I replaced the whole gear lever mechanism it looks like it should be possible to just swap over the gear stick itself. The console went straight in but the handbrake wouldn’t go all the way down without hitting the console. Turns out the handbrake is different, 20 mins spent swapping that over and everything is ship-shape. The original hand brake was slightly damaged anyway... the  seat runner caught on it when I removed the drivers seat for repair a while back. It looks much better now!

I’m not sure if the S60 centre console Is considered an upgrade to the original V70 item but I couldn’t fit the space ball without it. It certainly feels nicer and there’s now a handy place to store CDs!
