This all reminds me of going out to Woburn to recover a Mark2 Escort that had hit one of The Duke of Bedford’s  very fresh venison, I was in a LWB S2a LandRover with a Harvey Frost crane. The driver came in to the body shop one Saturday morning, he’d got a lot of facial bruising and a few cuts from the toughened screen coming in.

When we got to the car , the inside looked like Vincent Vega and Jules should have been cleaning it, the deer had come through the screen and had still been alive flailing about when the driver jumped out and ran away, somebody had helped themselves to the carcass overnight but I remember the smell and the trail it left going down the road. Needless to say it went straight to the crusher, nobody wanted any bits off it!

Spotted this very sad-looking TVR Cerbera on an industrial estate near Chichester today. I wonder what its story is?

According to the DVLA, the car's last MOT ran out in June 2008. Poor thing.

Wasn’t the Cerbera the first car that they made their own engine for?  Can’t imagine it’s quite as cheap as fixing a Rover V8 .

Yes, I suppose it could have been worse.

There's another one in a very faded state that's been sitting in a front garden in Ealing for the last eight years or so. Looks like when they fail, they fail properly.

I believe so. It's no doubt quite a 'specialist' engine and therefore extremely expensive to repair or replace if it goes bang.

I imagine that if they sit for anywhere approaching that long, they are probably totally uneconomical to repair. I wonder how much such a car would be worth in bits?

Limited market. TVRs never did sell in volume, so I'd surmise that it would be parts sellers looking for a buyer rather than buyers looking for a seller.

I have nothing useful to add on the subject of TVRs, but can’t help but observe that Chichester has a MUCH better class of industrial estate than round here.

Well the 75 now has its shiny new exhaust fully fitted, and the V70 has an openable nearside rear door, so that's two jobs jobbed.

The exhaust I bought came in two sections with a sleeve to join the two, rather than the single section of the original exhaust.  This made it a lot easier to handle for fitting purposes, but harder to judge the angles at which the bends in the pipe needed to sit - I didn't get it quite right on the centre section, so that is sitting about an inch too far to the offside and needed a bit of careful adjustment on the height with the aid of a scissor jack when joining the two halves together, but I've taken it for a drive and it doesn't knock on anything over bumps so I'm not going to worry too much about it.

The problems with the Volvo's central locking have been alluded to elsewhere.  I've essentially deactivated the central locking on both rear doors - they now lock using the plunger and unlock by pulling on the interior handle.  I rarely use the back doors anyway (the car usually has the back seats folded down) so as long as they open for the MOT that's all I'm worried about.  It still needs a tyre and the back box welding back on, but after that it should be nearly ready for a test.

The Scudo van is continuing its steady descent towards the scrapyard.  In addition to HGF it's now developed a fuel leak - diesel is pissing out from the fuel filter.  I'm not going to bother fixing it.  Ironically the van still starts first time every time, even when left for weeks, which is more than can be said for a lot of the fleet, but even so it has not been one of my better purchases.  When funds and travel restrictions permit I will be on the lookout for another van.

Is yours a 110 HDI?

If so, I am in need of an intercooler and the boost pipe on the right that connects to it and the hard plastic pipe.

I have some 2 part putty in the intercooler and some tape over the hose currently.

ETA, what spec is it and how is the interior, mine is shabby in places. Maybe a pm conversation, I could be interested in the whole thing, depending on how similar to mine it is.

Ignore the errant emoticon.

Corsa received the state mandated MOT extension today, nothing of concern on it other than the holed suspension turrets.

A chap in Kirkintilloch has offered to do it for me. He has tried to buy it several times so hopefully he is enthusiastic enough to do a good job. He knows it's not for sale though! I miss driving it

That SLK really looks very smart!

It's in pretty decent nick for a 90's Benz. There's one small bit of paint bubbling on the drivers side front wheel arch, that's it. I gave the interior a good hoovering out and clean, used some plastic restorer stuff and some leather cleaner and it came up great. Will do the outside tomorrow, was no point doing it today

The chassis is probably rotten, they were never properly rustproofed and even though they have a fibreglass body the rest is mild steel and the outriggers dissolve for fun.

Its a body off job to repair.

Tidy that, I like the seats and the dash. Just the right amount of design to be fun yet still Germanic.

<chap from Kirkintollch> This is a much worse job than I expected! Going to cost £1000 to do this properly. If you did think of ever selling it, what was you thinking of selling it for?

Ha. I’m afraid I can’t even pronounce that in my head - how do you say it  phonetically?

A few years ago someone I worked with wanted a Cerbera and recruited me to help even though he was fairly clued up. After a couple of weeks we called it off alarmed by the amount cars with ads that read  " 21,000 miles, one careful owner, recent engine rebuild and clutch" or similar.....

I remember then they had just come out and a city person was using one to commute into Leeds centre. It made the most amazing wailing noise  Pulling away from the lights, same pace as the other traffic but sounded incredible.

A friend was very keen on TVRs, mainly had the Chimeras, but had one Cerbera which got vandalised. It went back to TVR for repair and upgrades, they had it for over a year, but when he flew up to Blackpool to collect it, it still hadn't been put together properly, nor had it been mot'd. He left it with them for another month. He still bought TVRs after that though.

There is a (V6 enginied) TVR sat on a driveway a few miles from me, it failed the Mot about ten years ago, apparently the owner doesn't want to sell.

The CEO of the company I used to work for bought a TVR Cerbera - it was a write off and he rebuilt it, partly himself and partly a friendly garage, ended up costing him a lot less than buying a decent one would have.  Rover engine too so less troublesome, although he did have some fun with the electrics.  Then he reproduced and had to get rid.

On Sunday morning I bid on a bug at about 6.50am as couldn’t sleep. Woke up to find bid accepted so got on my bicycle with €350 in my back pocket and drove home in this.

Its really shit looking at the min with those absolutely hideous wheels. But, I’ve since sold them for €200 so this is turning out to be a rather cheap daily shitter and considerably better than the 116i it replaces.

I’ve polished it to within an inch of its life and yes, Black steelies and the lowering stick are happening..

A mate of mine had a few TVRs through the years - The Chimera being the one that I recall being the most ridiculously fun one to play with - but they were all universally a complete menace to work on, and had an alarming tendency to go wrong in exciting and expensive ways.

The Chimera was also absolutely *lethal* in the wet.  I think that was the first car that I ever unintentionally wound up in a powerslide in.

Mike and Edd did the chassis replacement on wheeler dealers.

Looked a doddle.
