Cavcraft
Finally fitted the cheapo new battery (£8.49 inc. postage) to the SS today. Got a box of electrical terminal things and wired it up. The indicators work again now, so a nice double whammy due to the price and the fact I don't need to buy a relay for it. Haven't tried it enough to see if the speedo works again, had a fairly epic night on the sauce last night, so not riding or driving today. As much as I liked the rough looking nature of the bike, it's sort of annoying me a bit now and tempted to strip it and do it up. Probs never happen though. Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk Hate to say it...but that sounds horribly like you've run it dry and have done in the oil pump and/or bottom end. Expect a horrific gallery noise to develop in the near future shortly followed by terminal failure. If you're really lucky it's sucked up gunk and a filter change will help...but usually being run for any appreciable time, especially under load, without proper oil flow is terminal. reb
One too many nights washing up in the back of numbertile roundbread while daydreaming* about all manner of far more engaging things than how many more greasy baking pans I need to clean has resulted in a thing; Honestly I should have done it years ago rather than clinging onto computers because "future". I was reading car manuals religiously from when I was very small and even to this day have been known to flick through an HBOL as a form of light entertainment. It's been staring in my face my entire life that I have the mind for engineering and I've completely missed it! I spent hours last night while driving around at work pondering racing** airbox designs for the C2, if I'd had a drawing board in front of me I could have got quite close to a couple of nearly finished (ish) designs I reckon. I don't know what I want to do with it, I just know it's what I want to do. Maybe I can become the ultimate chod whisperer? Maybe it'll help me actually finish the pug one day... Thanks to all on here who have offered advice over the years, even if I roundly ignored it at the time! You might be surprised to find out how many people are involved in Engineering new products. It might be interesting for you if you put some key words into total jobs dot com and see where your study might lead. Engineering is such a wide ranging subject, that a BEng(Hons) will only scratch the surface. What it should do is teach you how to find out and investigate the stuff you were not taught. Note, the design and introduction of an air intake duct for a high volume car would probably involve all sorts of specialists, from Cad jockeys, material specialists, stress and noise specialists, tool I g designers, moulding specialists, manufacturing engineers, development and test engineers. Plus engineers in purchasing and quality. They might work for suppliers, and customer with a risk sharing contract. Or not. I see myself as a generalist. I specialised in Design for Assembly, then in project managing the purchase of bespoke assembly equipment, then in lean and manufacturing improvement. Now I tend to do Lean within aerospace Engineering. That is speeding up design changes. cobblers and reb

I see it as a step to open up all of the opportunities that are currently closed to me because of my lack of academic experience and qualification. I hope to use it as a gateway to specialise in something I find interesting/am good at. Re the airbox my thinking was more along the lines of a one off or low production track car, which obviously removes a lot of the constraints. Along with being more engaging than worrying about everything else going on! So far in normal life I've found myself doing all sorts of things, i seem to be quite quick to pick up concepts and I'd like to actually explore them properly! New POD
I think actually understanding the science (or maths or physics) behind how stuff really works is fascinating. I remember learning about the science of single point turning and then having it turned on its head with PCBN tools and the science behind using them as a alternative to grinding on hard metal. And since I graduated never going near any cutting process ever again. reb
SiC
Funds requested for house purchase. It'll come in a minimum 24 hours and maximum of 5 days. Marked as urgent priority because of situation, so should (possibly) be done in time but no one will make any guarantee. House sale completes on the 4th March and we have to legally move out then. Need to let the removal company know if our stuff needs to go into storage by tomorrow first thing. Might just have to take the punt it'll happen on Wednesday. Farrrrrrrk... Yoss
Started tidying the garage a bit as I'm planning on getting the Triumph out at the weekend. I opened the bonnet to see a little face looking at me. He then jumped out and managed to run along the door to the boot. As I get to the back he runs back to the front. And then back again. Then he comes round the drivers side and of course I'd left the window open so he jumps straight in the car. Bugger. Though it seems he's been in before as a polystyrene cup I'd left under the back seat had been nibbled away at. But he's obviously been living in the bulkhead which is not good. I keep a couple of rags in there for cleaning the dipstick and general wiping of oil and these had been chewed into little bits with lots of leaves added for extra comfort. This is after I'd removed most of it. I always leave the bonnet popped as if I don't use it for a few weeks (and it hasn't been out since before Christmas) it helps to prime the fuel pump before starting. So that little gap and this bit of nibbling of the seal that runs round the scuttle... ... was enough to get in. I knew I had a guest in the garage because the bird seed I keep in there had been got at and all the sunflower seeds had been removed and taken to a different part of the garage to be opened. I wouldn't mind if he stayed in the garage and there are plenty of nooks and crannys he could make himself at home in but moving into the car itself is not good. You hear about them chewing wiring. Fortunately it all still works at the mo but I have now ordered some of these. And my job for the weekend is to get the Triumph out properly, take the seats out and give it a damn good hoovering. MarvinsMom
that little mouse is SOOOOO sweet, but i know the damage they can do. at some point in the past one has been behind the dash of Rodney Mini, and the number of earths we had to sort through caused by nibbled wires at one point there were a couple of "tame" mice at the factory, nicknamed Austin and Rover. they would sit and watch the guys in the tool room at breaktime, and gratefully accept crumbs and scraps off them. well until the arsehole managers found out about them, well the less said about that the better. the tool room staff were too a man saddened, furious, and disgusted. oddly though when we had that dirty rat in our shed, i had no worries at all about killing it! But as I say plans for the weekend are a bit of a deep clean. It can wait til the weekend because the garage is a bit restricted and I have to move two Skodas to get it onto the drive and we're in a permit parking area and only one Skoda has a permit so lots of shunting and too lazy.
