00833827
Picked this up this morning. V50 with abkut 160 miles. No test. I can hear a slight noise from a wheel bearing. And there is a bit of power missing so something turbo related i think. No warnings up and no smoke so hoping its not massive. Kinda took a punt on it as no car working right now. Paid a small bit more than i wanted but still small and well covered by what i made on the jeep. Expect lots of questions from me on it Aston Martin

paulplom
Different engine but my R56 needs a close eye kept on the oil. Since I upped the grade from 5/30 to 5/40 the consumption has slowed to about 1cm on the dipstick per week, regardless of whether you do 40 or 400 miles! It took 3 and a half litres to get it back to max. I'll be checking it weekly from now on.The oil light still comes on at very low revs. If I hold it above 3k it stays out. I'm getting some odd looks at traffic lights.Sent from my SM-G975F using Tapatalk

greengartside
SMOLL update. FATHA_GG has decided to sell his C-Class after nine years. It’s seen many things whilst he’s owned it. Births, marriages and deaths. It’s had numerous trips to see relatives in the North and I drove it through the middle of Manchester as part of my Uncle’s funeral cortège, it was the lead car. He paid £1495 for it in 2011, and apart from tyres and consumables, has never cost him a penny. However galloping rot in the sills and everywhere else has sounded the death knell for this beast. It’s off to its new owner tomorrow who I think will use it until the MOT runs out then that will be the end. Maybe it’ll get exported or bangered, who knows. I did salvage the (excellent condition) genuine MB floor mats in Blue and the rear plastic boot tray, again in superb condition. These will be for sale if anyone wants them? I will provide pictures in due course. I persuaded dad to order a new front plate and we got this today. The old plate now has pride of place in my shed as a treasured memory. The replacement is a ultra-modern Skoda Octavia. Quite nice actually, it’s the 1.4 TSi with DSG box. Full service history stamped by Skoda etc. He seems happy with it. I still have Dudley the Micra. I plan to MOT it and flog it on. The wipers still don’t work properly despite me changing the wiper motor, so by deduction it’s the wiper relay at fault. I have NO IDEA where the relay is as it’s the facelift one, the older ones had the relay next to the motor. Has anyone got any idea where it is? I also managed to open the sunroof as it was covered with sealant everywhere. I scraped all that crap off it and now it’s clean and usable. I forgot to take a picture of this, sadly. It was very satisfying though! I ran some water over the top of the sunroof to see where it’s leaking but I couldn’t see anything wrong. I may get the garage to blow the sunroof tubes out with a compressed airline to see if that does anything. Mine uses nothing like that amount of oil. I'd get a compression test done before doing anything else. I'm now very glad I didnt swap my Clio for this as I was thinking about it. 00833827
job 1 done on the volvo, wiper linkage was broken as is usual when the cup on the ball wears and it pops off. someone had been in there before me and tied it with wire. i drilled and bolted it. also spotted another bodge which might be related to the loss of power. a hose is also wired on, can anyone tell me what i am looking at here and if its likely to affect the turbo? I'm no expert on these having never owned one, but I found a split intercooler hose (hard black plastic one, very fancy injection moulded thing about 10 inches long, not a straight-forward pipe) on my boss's one whilst changing his alternator. I taped it up and his car was transformed he said, he was grateful as the garage had told him he needed a new dpf. Fitted a brand new one (about £60 iirc), the next week and I got promoted shortly after that! 00833827, beko1987 and puddlethumper 1
tommotech
Been looking at an EGR defect on a 2014 Volvo XC60, which has the 2.0 133kw diesel unit. Easy enough to get to, I’ve found the EGR cooler full of soot / carbon - EGR gasses being over cooled I suspect. The deposits have proven a challenge to remove. I’ve tried Mr Muscle oven cleaner, alloy wheel cleaner (my usual go-to product for EGR clean) and bleach but cannot get sufficient flow through the cooler. I’ve had to fire up my ultrasonic tank and will give it a couple of hours in there. Fingers crossed!
cort1977
Got the keys to our new house this week, excitingly the garage is a double and the drive is quite big for chod storing purposes. The ex-bobthebeard MX5 was moved a couple of miles to its new home on a trailer* because still no MOT. Welding has been done, just need to change out the rear discs and clean up the cylinder and sliders and it should be on the road. Battery was a bit flat but a few hours on my recently inherited 40 year old charger soon had the dash showing signs of life and it started first turn after sitting for at least three months. Had a minor panic when modern van was found to be leaking oil, turns out it was my poor ability as a mechanic. The oil filter cap on the VW R5 engine needs to be done up more than hand tight to prevent leakage, who knew? Had to put more torque on the plastic filter cap than i was happy with but seems to be oil tight now. Starting as i mean to go on with the drips on the new driveway. Split_Pin
I fixed a few things today, some types of repair I had never tried before. Changed a dual plug socket today as the switch was loose and cutting out (we binned our tumble dryer because of this as we though it was broken, ahhh!). I've never worked in anything electrical before but I wasnt going to fork out £100 for an electrician. Spoke to @Tickman at Scotoshite and he explained things and encouraged me to have a go- cheers! Rehung the cupboard door that the tumble dryer sits in. Sewed my burst jeans and sewed my son's school jumper. Nothing car related sadly! dome, Tickman, mitsisigma01 and 4 others
