Then labour on top. Porsche Tax basically. Non genuine bottles exist but its been advised many a time for your own sanity to not use them.

I was intending to do most of it myself and make a YouTube video on it once we move house. However I just want to use the car right now. My local garage said ok to the suspension work on the Boxster and I'm really hoping that they'll be happy to do the coolant tank too. No special tools are needed, apart from small and leathery thick hands maybe.

I'm hoping that in 2020 we'll have a bit of a road trip to South of France in it.

After spending the day helping fitting an engine and gearbox to a series 1 land rover, I watched the afterglow of this decade fade behind the hills.

Finally Put a new midsection on the polo, snapped two exhaust clamp bolts and hurt my hand after slipping and punching the underneath. Then started it up for the first time in a week, started fine but has a bloody blow. 

Gave the yaris (or granny mobile as my daughter calls it) a good clean and polish. Then changed headlight bulbs. What an absolute nob the passenger side one is! Made my newly bad hand even worse.

1/10 would not recommend playing with cars today.

This. My 1959 Vespa had no paperwork when I got it from a family member and it didn't show up on DVLA. I went round the houses, trying to find old taxation records to no avail, and - as a last resort - filled in a V62 as if I'd just bought it without a registration document. Bingo! Turns out it had last been taxed in 1979 and not transferred to the new computerised system, but was still on their records. A V5c arrived showing me as the first and only owner! This was closely followed by a letter saying I should return it because there was an error on it. Obviously I did nothing of the sort, but a few days later another V5c arrived with my name as keeper and, this time, my Uncle as the previous owner :D

I’m planning a Poor Man’s Porsche repair series later in the year so if you have other jobs needing doing I’d be happy to help you out! Mine needs loads doing :-(

I was hoping to do a bunch of YouTube videos documenting changing the bits, but I was waiting to move house and have better facilities to do that. However that is taken forever (well over a year now since we started) and I feel a bit fed up at the moment. So I just want to go driving in it. My local garage  agreed to do the suspension previously, but I'm hoping that they'll agree to do the coolant bottle too.

What needs sorting on yours? Mine is coolant bottle + cap, front top mounts and ignition switch. Oh and could do with a service + aircon regas. Minor stuff really for the average 20 year old porker.

Top mounts (TBH it probably wants a full suspension overhaul at 137k), brakes, a CV boot, indicator stalk assembly, sill welding (I’ll get a garage to do that unless you fancy it? :D). Few other bits I can’t remember 

PAS pipes are hanging on by a thread - that’s not a DIY job without a ramp though.

Do you not think with the youtube videos you'd need to do it twice?  Once with the swearing, 4 hours undoing one seized, fire, big hammers, blood,  undoing the previous bodges when you find the ARB is actually made of rolled up pages of the beano and crying then the second time when you film it and you looks like you know what you're doing. 

I don't think I've ever seen a wheels dealers that they crack their knuckles trying to undo a calliper bolt that some previous bodger has molested with a set of grips.

You are right though - main reason I haven’t made any videos on my mk1 Clio is that I have NO FUCKING IDEA what is wrong with it!

Just watching George Clarks Christmas amazing spaces. He's on a husky sled and says "these dogs can run at 15mph, thats twice the speed of rush hour traffic in some places in the UK"

Nice analogy George.  Driving your Mondeo through Birmingham at 8am on Tuesday morning really relates to riding a fucking husky sled through the snow in a Finish wilderness.

I hope he stands in husky shite.

Just back from a spontaneous outing in the mini. My neighbour “Mick the Bus” called to ask if I knew about it; I had no idea but it turned out to be a very enjoyable meet indeed.

From what I gather, the New Years Day meeting at Barrington dates back to the 70s. When the organiser retired, nobody took over but people kept coming anyway. That story is probably a parable and could be applied to all sorts of things that people think need moderating and organising, but whatever (!)

It was a really eclectic mix. Not classics but some vintage stuff, some classic, some retro and some interesting moderns too. It was super relaxed and a brilliant atmosphere. I’d intended to take the Sierra but the battery just laughed at me - so we went in Nan’s mini instead.

My favoured garage have just finished repairing a GTfour for a customer. I think they’re the bomb.

The owner of this collared me and we got talking. He seemed mostly disinterested in the bASe but a nice fella. Has had it for about 30 years, done a lot of work himself and it’s just ticked around to 260k.

Quite an interesting story with this little Truck. It’s an Auto Union. Nope, me neither. However it turns out that they would, in time, become Audi.

It seems popular around these parts to dislike MK2 Escorts, but I fucking love them. A friend at school inherited a brown MK2 in about 1999 and he was utterly ashamed of it. He’d park around the corner from college and refuse to be seen in it at times! I reckon he’d love one now!

I took the A55 to the (heaving) Stony Stratford Vintage gathering today. Only a 70 mile round trip on A and B roads but the longest distance I've done so far in it. Was mostly ignored by the spectators because dull 50's British saloon but I did have a chat with the neighbour of the previous (now deceased) owner and a chap who owned a identical example in 1968 and wanted a sit inside. I was also interviewed and photographed by someone from Classic Car Weekly so might be in the next issue...

I noticed how clean this was earlier today, I actually thought " Oh, that's like the one @64A60 has got"!  Didn't realise you were that local, although I must admit I was distracted by that shiny old Commodore, parked next to you.

Did you see the grey A60 parked outside The Plough ? It was fully blocking the footpath and I as we were driving past 2 Chavvy looking blokes made a point of scraping the back wing with a pushchair- looked as if it was going to kickoff when the driver got out.

Happy New Year one and all...

Have spent today washing Rosie the Trabi (and an obligatory run up and down the local lanes), a very calming experience, and a good use of my unexpected day off I think.  However, this activity has resulted in a wee splurge on TrabantWelt's website... they have started doing reproduction bumpers (an earlier and much prettier version, it's a Trabbi thing!), which I spotted while ordering the replacement wheel cylinders I actually went on for (brakes are sticking on one side).  340 eurosheckles just like that!

Anyway, Rosie's bumpers will go from this:

After oversleeping somewhat catastrophically (hence signed note from Mum for SVR meet today), I decided to get to the bottom of the ever-present brake lights which afflicts the 420 at present.

Looked like a straightforward job, slightly adjust the stop light switch which sits behind the fusebox on the driver's side (naturally in quite a tight space) and pushes against the brake pedal.

How ever much I adjusted it (either stupidly tight against the brake pedal, or floppily loose) the brake lights steadfastedly stayed on. Pulled the switch itself out and checked for resistance - exactly as you would expect : nothing with the switch depressed (brake pedal off), good reading with it off (brake depressed). 

I suspect there must be some electric-kery going on somewhere as also noticed that neither rear fog light works, so will now have to carefully check all the wiring.

Have bought a six quid replacement switch off the bay just in case, but that was a straw-clutching moment of weakness.

Never travel by train after a bank holiday.

The rail network is certainly getting its money's worth out of the rolling stock today. Just travelled livestock class from Bridgend to Cardiff, now on an alternative route via Bristol Temple Meads, due to cancellations on the Parkway route, but at least have a seat (for people with no legs). ETA Barnstaple sometime today.

just walked to the Dr's to apply for my Prescription charge exemption form ....  should just get rubber stamped ..

what gets  me ,  is I could of been told about this weeks ago  by support staff at the hospital  ... instead I find out about it on Google ...

wonder is dental work is covered ?

Probably not:

The cost of NHS dental treatment

People in certain groups are entitled to free NHS dental treatment, including those under 18, those under 19 still receiving full-time education, pregnant women or those who have had a baby in the last 12 months, and those on qualifying low-income benefits.

Otherwise, there are three standard NHS price bands. You should only pay once for each course of dental treatment. 

The bands cover:

Band 1 is £22.70  Examination, diagnosis (eg x-rays), preventive advice, a scale and polish if needed, application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealant. Urgent care, even if your appointment needs more than one appointment to complete.

Band 2 is £62.10  Everything listed in Band 1, plus further treatment such as fillings, root-canal work and extractions.

Band 3 is £269.30  Everything listed in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures and bridges.

These costs apply from 1 April 2019 and are part of the Department of Health uplift in dental charges, which started in April 2016.
