Following on from the huge success** I've experienced with my Twitter page @CrapCCollective I've decided to make a few calendars and see if anyone would like one (or two!...)

Lots of terrible driving seen / suffered today. Must be distracted or tired from staying up late. One Audi ( obv.) was so keen to overtake me he almost slammed into the back of the stationary queue of traffic.

my posh card arrived today. Do remember your taxes pay for this!

She hates it and do I want it? She overpaid and it has 1.4 trillion miles. No thanks.

So the Multipla needed two tries at getting the MOT this week but we got there in the end.

With my cars it's a story of attrition. Check out how much mileage I've added in 12months. Bear in mind I drove the Jag about for a month or so, and I bought the Alfa 147 in sportyshites hands for 3 to 4 weeks while I fitted the lowering springs and timing belt to the Multi.

This cracking mk2 is the MOT man's. He says he did it once in his teens/twenties and is doing it up again properly in his 30s.

He was welding up the frame for a friend. Proper legend this guy. I asked him if he could take some tyres of some spare wheels i had once. "Erm, £3 or 4" he said for a pair. He said they charge him £2 each to scrap them. That's why I keep coming back.

I really rate Hankook winter tyres, I've a set on the Scirocco and put a set on the Rover as soon as I got it. They are excellent in the rain, out-cornering a lot of more sporty vehicles and they are without parallel in snow & ice.

I have V12 Evo2 summer tyres. They've been brilliant in the cold, wet weather so far. Including some slippery icy mornings after work. How they'd cope in snow though, I'm not sure.

Just done Manchester to Grimsby in pissing rain without issue. Including a good few miles of totally flooded a628.

I has made a decision,I think! My new environment in Dorset means a bit more travelling on much shiteier roads than I used to have in Worcestershire, and aside from the obvious unpleasantness of riding a 30 year old two stroke bike this time of year,I'm already at the point where I'm feeling unsafe and had a few dodgy moments today on the wet, greasy muddy roads, and we haven't even had ice yet! So I've decided to rejoin the ranks of the 4 wheeled brigade, and find a car, pretty soon! Won't be easy this time of year, plus I'm currently out of work which will no doubt equal bum rape with the insurers, but if I'm to have any quality of life,ie,being able to travel further to get decent work, and see where I'm going, dry and warm, and of course be able to go out to meet people or do anything anytime regardless of the weather,it's got to happen.I shall probably sell my MZ,my faithful companion of the last 4-5 years,to offset the cost, and keep my Ariel for fun in the sun. Thinking Polo,Fabia,FeliCa (tho they all gone and or rotten! Would love a 205 as I really dig them and got hooked after driving chaseracers white one,but I can't travel to the other end of the country to get one,so will have to see what turns up?

@Six-cylinder AX is probably your nearest match for small, fun and cheap to run? Certainly cheaper than many 205s now. In fact it's a lot cheaper than most working cars you can get now.

Probably possible to get it on cheap classic insurance too?

Just after running the CX up the M1/A5183 to Kensworth, to drop off some mobility aids for recycling, and back. Nothing happened, apart from an occasional tendency for the coolant warning light to come on, and then go out again.

Quite relaxed at 60mph (2700/2800 rpm); no need to go quicker. Not particularly economical anyway - 55 miles takes a quarter tank.

Will run again tomorrow.

Got the strut top mount changed on the V70 this afternoon.  It actually went relatively smoothly, only thing I struggled to get undone was the top nut which holds the mounting onto the strut - I had to put the strut back on the car temporarily to get enough leverage.  Also the drop link was a twat to get off - ended up having to hacksaw it, except that I couldn't get a hacksaw in at the strut end due to mounting lugs being in the way.  So I bought one of those handles that just holds a hacksaw blade at one end, and went at it from an angle - the blade now has a permanent bend in it where it was going round the strut, but it cut through it eventually.  The ARB end was a bit easier, although that involved having the track rod end through the middle of the hacksaw so still not ideal.

I had to get everything back together fairly quickly though - there is the 21mm hex nut at the top of the strut which holds the mounting on, then below the mounting plate there is a "star" nut which holds the spring seat in place - except it didn't appear to be doing a particularly good job and once the top mount was removed the spring seat began to take on an increasingly jaunty angle - so I put everything back together loosely then got the strut back on the car before tightening everything up, as I was slightly worried that I was going to end up with a coil spring pinging across the car park.  The new drop link went on easily enough.  I'm going to take it for a proper test drive tomorrow to see if the knocking / wobble has been cured.  I'm not entirely happy with the condition of the top spring seat though - it's looking decidedly crusty in places.  If I end up keeping the car long term I might look at fitting a complete secondhand strut.  (The alternative to that is replacing the spring seat, but that involves using spring compressors which give me teh fearz.)

Sadly I think this might have been the last rodeo for my trusty old trolley jack.

I bought it from Aldi for a tenner about 15 years ago and have been using and abusing it ever since, so I think it's fair to say I've had my money's worth.  I've asked for a new jack from Santa.

Possibly the only GS425 left on the road, didn't get to speak to the owner. Two t-shirts, one hoodie, two coats and still fucking freezing.
