The chap I went to check out the x1/9 for at the weekend has sent me a ticket for Goodwood’s festival of speed on Thursday. He’s a tv outdoor broadcast sound engineer so it’s probably a freebie but still generous. The ticket mentions special parking if you’re bringing your pride and joy, so I’ve just found out what qualifies on their website. Oddly, 2cvs, x1/9s and elderly Mercedes don’t seem to be wanted.

Does anyone have a car that would be accepted? ( mr six cyl aside - actually now that’s a thought, perhaps I could ask if I could borrow the e type or Maserati?!).

Is anyone else going on Thursday?

It is too short notice to prepare E Type or Maserati as E Type has a misfire and Biturbo is out of MOT, a product of having too much fun with sh1te!

However My 1996 BMW M3 Evo convertible still has MOT and a run would do it good, yours for the asking.

Very generous, but I was joking really. Also I don’t think I'm an m3 type of person.

Aaaand it’s back on the road!!! Fresh new MoT certificate achieved for the Mazda! DECA30F4-98D3-4F2B-8D27-797A0CB43D86.jpeg

(Brief version) After initially being quoted £850 for the work needed on my MX5 I checked it over myself and honestly couldn’t see why it had been failed. So I took it for a second quote/opinion. He asked me if I minded if he put it in for a test... I said ok. He did some very minor fettling and it passed straight away!

(Full version on my thread!)

they don't look bad at all but it's the ones either side of the engine that are a worry on the mk2, not that easy to check from above but definitely worth checking out next time it's up on ramps and you've got the under tray off

Aah, gotcha.  Well they're far from factory fresh, but I wouldn't go as far as to call them "toast".

So driving this for the last couple of days has flushed out a couple of issues.

One is that I now absolutely must replace the rocker cover gasket as it is now weeping oil quite profusely from both front corners and along the leading edge. I have a replacement in the loft.

The second may or may not be a bit of an issue. There has been a slight metallic rattle coming from somewhere on light acceleration, how long I dont know. It doesn't do it at idle. It sounds a bit like if a small bracket was loose however investigations showed nothing amiss. On replicating the condition from the engine bay, it appears to be coming from the gearbox. It sounds like something small, perhaps a bearing in the gearbox somewhere.

I'll just keep driving it until it doesn't drive any more before worrying any more about it.

Ordered an older but better Micra radio today. This one is old enough to have the code on the back so not too much hassle on the code side. Also enables me to test speakerz and the massive aerial.

Had a bit of a panic this morning when Adrian Flux quoted me £1750 to insure a fucking automatic MX-5... Couple of other specialist insurers basically told me to get stuffed too.

Went on GoCompare and Admiral was a grand cheaper than Flux. Not as cheap as I'd have liked but it's good enough for now.

Collection day is tomorrow.

Well worth giving the insurers that advertise on mx5nutz a call they can normally do a decent deal

Mine with mods on classic at 5000 miles is £300 ISH

Granvia passed its MOT test today - two consecutive clean sweeps.

Quite brilliantly I’ve managed to knock a total of 9 advisories off by just having it tested somewhere else. I really like the garage who did it back in 2017 but they test everything to within an inch of its life; same with my Avensis.   Obviously I want to be told of any future issues where practical and possible, but a lot of it is - imho - devoid of any real point.

Still, one doesn’t want the Man from the Ministry thinking you’re a friendly tester now, does one?!

Today was the first day of my new job. Drove this honey around northwest London, delivering things as diverse as rolls of fabric, wheelchairs and lost-but-now-found suitcases:

It's great to have a truck of my own at last, especially a modern one which is clean inside and out and on which everything works as it should :)

Just after discovering that my parents' oul 1989 Mk.2 Jetta was turned into a full-blown race car

Mixed feelings about the Jetta's fate. Whilst it clearly had a life, long after it was sold, the changes made by a subsequent owner were clearly irreversible and perfectly good original parts like the interior and the door glasses went into the skip.....
