I now have no seats or carpets in the Xantia and I'm enjoying myself.  That plus the commonsense levelled at me on this here forum is making me waver in my resolve to sell.  Clearly I need a car that requires fiddling with on a regular basis to be happy, that and squishomatic seats.

I have arranged some collection capers for Thursday. The weather forecast is horrific rain. The car has an entire month of MOT and magazine reviews seem reluctant to give it more than two stars and are often very rude about it. Perfect!

The vehicle is not French. More than that, I'm not prepared to admit. It's a car I've never driven before though, so that rules the City Rover out. That and the fact that they really are quite dreadful...

I have to say, if I was anywhere near Essex, I might have been on that 3dr Astra estate like Elvis on a burger. Delicious, urgh, thankyouverymerch.

Scirocco updated;

After gently brushing a kerb last Thursday, it appears that my wishbone was a little dented.

Which in turn has lead to a minor re-style/fog light deletion at the front.

Not the end of the world then.

I am happy bunny once more!

Is that the one from Lascelles Gardens in Rochford?

Today the Merc went in for investigation/repair of leakages, ... someone has attempted repairs before which resulted in the rounding off of some bolts ...

Not guilty!

Small update on the daily Astra - new centre and back box ordered an delivered as the ones on the car are blowing like buggery. More expense, still it's a SHITZALL. Getting bored of it though and now fancy a mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S. Hmph.

The MK5 Zetec-S is much like the XR2 of the 90s, most have been raced, barry'd, smashed, stolen etc so you have to look carefully for a well cared for example, that Imperial Blue they come in looks GR9 tho.

Yes absolutely, there are a few but not many decent ones left. Most of the decent ones are commanding top coin. I would really like to de-barry one and make it completely original again and enjoy it, I think they're going to become a cult car in the future.

Just steer clear of anything too barry'd due it getting slammed over speed humps on Southend seafront and donutted every Friday for the last 5 years.

The phase two cars have the slightly stronger engine but personally I prefer the phase 1 cars (W and X reg)

Posted

I prefer the Phase 1 as well, has the better alloys on it IMHO. I did have a Ph1 X-plate that was mildly barried, should never have sold it.

New welder advice please, what are the best brands?

Single phase MIG, something robust that will cope with working all day every day.

Didn't Ratdat find a nice pro type one that still ran off a domestic supply? Built to order for not too much iirc.....

Well, I've still got the Peugeot 106, Steve hasn't been getting on too well with the Merc, he jetwashed around the engine to get all the caked on oil off to see where it might be coming from, the car ran fine for a bit but then suddenly started revving itself upto 4k rpm and then hunting.

I'm sure it'll get fixed, the oil leak seem to have been finally traced to oil filter which looked like it hadn't been changed, there was much in the way of oil blasted around in there and the seal was seriously flat.

Not guilty!

Lol! No worries chap, I think you were the only one who ever gave this car any proper attention, I did say to Steve that I suspected it might be the owner before you or before him who might have tried to have bodge jobs done and gave up,

My weeks holiday from work got cancelled today.. seemingly we are not allowed hols in March, because MOT. Goes in this morning to a 2011 Astra 1.4 with severe issues. Water pump humped, which had caused HGF. Started stripping it, and stripping and stripping. To get the head off, you have to remove the alternator, air con pump, sump, entire timing case, oil pump, water pump, inlet manifold and exhaust manifold/cat as well as the front pipe. Then have a load of special tools to lock the variable cams. Oil was totally emulsified so everything is minging. I reckon to have removed well over a hundred bolts to get the head off.

Oll Vauxhalls are shite.

Is this an Audi?

How did you guess, it was the previous owner who is in his 70s who put them on and I will take most of them off.
