If the guy who picks up my scrap was having it then you would be lucky if he took it for nothing. Either scrap is worth nowt down here or he is starting to take the piss.

Values are low but the vast majority of them do take the piss.

Car buyage is possibly underway, dependent on price.

Just sold the engine out of the Peugeot 304 I scrapped. It has got a bit of a journey to do mind as the buyer lives in Barbados. He has got a freind who will pick it up and take it out for him though so it might not be that silly. He has at least paid for it so thats a start

Wheel under bonnet, Volvo?

On my way to my top secret car collection. Train being delayed by low hanging trees. Unfortunately my lift from the station has turned into me getting a bus for 45 minutes. Better be worth it.

I've been to view a new car today, it's a fully restored 1600E, up for £6500 so proper money.

Unusually for me I've walked away without buying it, mostly because its the most expensive classic cars I've gone to view and because the paintwork is a bit iffy, it's by no means bad but for that money it's blistering on the bottom the the rear doors and sills, the gold paintwork is very cloudy and thin in places, it has some horrible clubb locks fitted, the black piping is gone on the seats and the headlining needs replacing.

The engine was nice though, port and polished unleaded converted with a fast road cam.

I've offered £5000 which still feels a lot but he won't take less than £6000 which is fair enough. Have i done the right thing?! Bearing in mind that i was originally after a Mk2 Granada and I'm still after the Orion Ghia that's in a barn?

Yup. I say well done for walking away. You know yourself how expensive paintwork can be to sort out, so I reckon you've played it right. Bet you get more fun to the pound out of an Orion.

Is that original Ford gold? Looks a lot like PSA Blaze Yellow to me (but I am colour blind).

I must admit, i didn't feel that buzz that i normally feel so that set alarm bells, it's by no means bad and i dare say he'll get £6000 for it without any problem but personally for that money I'd like a nice depth to the paint, this looked like it had only seen a few coats of base before lacquering. Some panels had dark shadows and others had silver patches. Shame as if it was all glossy then i may have feel different about it.

I rang about the Orion and basically it's mine and he wants me to have it as he knows I'll do it justice but it's at a back of a barn with 17 years worth of agricultural equipment in front of it as a well as a tractor which needs rebuilding to move it that he hasn't got time to finish. I've offered to spend a few days helping but it's him finding time to do it.

It's meant to be Amber Gold.

it all gets a bit more confusing when there's so much money involved. It still looks good value compared to some of the wobbed up escorts and other crap on ebay.

Six grand isn't that much in classic car circles.

Its a lot in my circle.

Oh, it's a shitload of money to me, too, but AS isn't really average in demographic terms.

According to a lot of scales, we shouldn't exist.

£6k would buy a mint Dolly 1850, a very tidy Sprint, a couple of Humber Sceptres or a mint Vauxhall Magnum.

Sod Ford prices. Although having said that £6000 doesn't go very far in nice examples of pre 1980 vehicles these days...

Seems like a lot, but when you see what 6k will buy in terms of "normal" cars, it's piss-all really.

Autoglass changed my Mondy screen on Monday, rear view mirror already fallen off. What's the best DIY option? Tried the famous green/white pads from a local factor which lasted about 2 hours.

I can't imagine the mine fields of buying something 10 x this price.

I reckon if that was an original car in purple with vinyl roof, you'd have been more excited.

Personally mintola resto jobs like that do nothing for me.

hairnet is right - go GM!

I hope you don't think I'm trying to tell you to suck eggs (no pun intended), but how did you put them on?

They need to be pressed HARD for about ten minutes to work properly. Also, did you get the the part of the mirror you were sticking the pad to clean, as in super-duper, clean as the Pope's internet browsing history clean?

Otherwise the mirror will just fall off the pad (normally when you're going down the motorway, in the outside lane).

Guess how I know that piece of information. :-(
