Yet Another Year In The Life of a Car Spotter: November Pt.2

Recommended Posts

My name is Dave and I'm a car spotter. Here is the first of twelve* installments of my spottings so far this year.

January: Mostly miserable and damp; who woulda thunk it.

Likewise! Love the Sierra, I think that may have been spotted before by spottedlaurel? Anyway, carry on please but do note that spotted threads aren't the most popular thing on here but don't let that put you off!

Thanks guys, I know the spotting threads are a sideshow to the main attraction but they have a following... and what with me being 'shiteless, it's one of the few contributions that I can make to this great web community.

Like me, the Sierra is in SW London area; I've seen the photos that spottedlaurel took and I think he said that particular car is now gorn, dead :(

I actually really like the spotted threads. It's good to see what's out there in other areas. I wouldn't mind doing my own thread but I'm terrible remembering to take my camera and actually using it!

Excellent quality spots! South west London is prime tat territory too so I’m looking forward to more instalments...,

I always find it very odd that London is like that for chod spotting. Being the place it is you'd think it'd be the very last place you'd see old stuff, but in reality it's actually probably one of the best places to find it. Weird!

February: Still miserable but less damp.

Volkswagen Sharan SEAT Alhambra, possibly engine-less or filled with concrete. Other theft deterrents have been fitted around the wheels.

W210 wagon; hard to tell if this is being restored, stripped or if it's just been plain old dumped.

I think it's due to the fact that so many people must be stretched to their limits to live there that another £200/300 a month on PCP makes them think sod it I'll keep my old car going instead.

Interestingly I was wondering what the chod demographic is these days? I think pre motability it was the reserve of the poorer parts of town endlessly going through £2/300 xr3's (hindsight yes hindsight) but with the advent of motability and PCP offering a better* car for just £25 a week I feel chod has now moved out towards the suburbs where wise richer folk bought something in the 90's for big bucks and thought "well, it still does everything I asked of it, never costs me to much money and I'm not prepared to invest £50k in a new one".

Your thoughts?

AS-appropriate material from shows & meets will be kept to an absolute minimum in this thread; 'shooting fish in a barrel' is the most appropriate synonym but these did appeal to my inner Ford fanboi;

An early and original looking 'tina which, for better or worse, has been OSF'd since I took this pic.

I spend a fair amount of time at Brooklands Museum; again, the 'fish in a barrel' rule will apply.

Alongside the 'traditional' 'classic cars, auction house 'Historics at Brooklands' sell the odd bit of 'shite.

Banham XJ-S with front & rear lamps of humble origin.

My eyes, that XJ-S thing. I just want to slap that stupid grin off its gormless face.

They're properly rare, unsurprisingly. It's a very good spot. This whole thread has got off to a great start! :D

Love the MKX and the Granadas. The XJ40 Sovereign is a lovely looking thing as well - and an exceedingly late one too.

The Banham is probably older than that though, so maybe it is the other way around?

Internet says the MG is from 1990, and the rear lights on the Banham are mk1 Mondeo pieces (1993?) so I don’t think so. The front ones look to be Corsa B units so again post-1990, at a guess 93-94.

March: Enough with the weather reports, it's Springtime!

A wet and miserable Austin/Morris Day at Brooklands. I consider this car to be ''Shite of the Day'.

If I ever find myself in a position where I can own a 'shite car, any '90s Japanese saloon will be near the top of my shopping list.

SRAD 750 (GSX-R750W to be precise in this case): a brilliant late '90s nutter bike and this one has survived in almost original condition. Must surely have been through a hedge at some point in it's life... or maybe a rare one that didn't.
